Looking great! The added material to the wheel wells did the trick. IMHO, the motor does look like it is sitting a bit too high. I just seen on an auction the frame and suspension from the Caddy kit. I think I’m going to get that for something in the future seeing as how you have used it so well!

Thanx! I wasn't sure it would work. But, it definitely did. I'm going to lower the engine a little. I'll have to cut the oil pan again. But, I think it will be the best solution to the problem.

If you buy just the chassis, make sure you get every piece. Personally, I would buy the whole kit to be sure. It's worth it for the extra parts and you could trade away anything you don't use. There's not gonna be much left of mine when I'm done. I think this setup would work great on a '51 Chevy.

My primer and paint arrived! So, I'll soon be able to get a better visual of how this thing is gonna look! I can't wait!

Yes, I think your right on buying the whole kit due to the fact that it looks like a very nice engine that comes with it as well and yes, you get every part you need for what you are trying to accomplish. What is your primer of choice by the way? I’ve been toying around with changing what I normally use ( Krylon Industrial Grey)   Keep up the great work!

I only use Tamiya. I never have to worry about any type of issues. It lays down thin and smooth. If you try it, you won't use anything else.

Good to know. Thanks for the tip.

I finally have this body ready for primer! I cleaned up the firewall by getting rid of the massive flange and added strengthening ribs to inner fenderwells. I also got the engine lowered down.

I got the trunk hinged and gutters added to the body.

I'm going to start with gray primer to get everything one color. One thing I've learned about Tamiya White Primer is that it's very transparent. Any variance in color beneath it will show through. I only use it for white paint jobs.

Thanx Dennis and Gareth! I shot a coat of gray over the body and couldn't wait to see how the white would cover. I also wanted to see if my vision of it in white was still what I was after. It definitely is! While the primer on the body was drying, I grabbed the wheels and shot the primer on them also. Once it was dry, I shot the Satin Black on them. While that was drying, I modified a set of Pegasus disc brakes to fit the wheels. With all of that done, I couldn't wait any longer! I had to see what it is going to look like!

love the way it looks!! I rarely say this. But, these photos don't capture how sinister this thing looks in person. Plus, the chrome on the brakes is reflecting the back side of the wheels. I have a few typical touch ups on the body work to do. There's one thing I actually forgot to do and I've been wanting to do it to a model for a while. I want to do Kindig style door handles. The plan is to cut the shape I want, glue it to the body, scribe around it and remove. Not sure if I'll paint them black or leave them body color. I'm also thinking about getting rid of the wipers. If I can remove them cleanly, I will. I'm also mulling over the headlights on whether or not to mold them in. I'm not sure how they would look with the trim painted black. Still a long way to go. But, I at least have an idea of what it's going to look like.

That beast is going to be stunning in pearl white. Looking fantastic Roger! I would definitely be curious to see the headlight trim in black, I think it would look sharp.

Those wheel and brake rotors look great Roger! Looking forward to seeing in pearl white...

Me too Carl! This will be my first all pearl white paint job. One thing that I'm concerned about is painting the headliner red. I'm definitely going to have to do it before final primer. Then I'm going to have the issue of keeping the white from getting on the red. One mishap on masking is all it's going to take to mess things up.

Man that looks sinister !!! Perfect stance and those black wheels w gleaming rotors..nailed it

Thanx! I'm going to hit the rotors with matte clear and see if that does the trick. I'm thinking it will. If it doesn't, I can strip and paint them.

Thanx! I'm going to paint the set from the kit to see how they'll look. But, I'm planning on using a set from the Revell '48 if they'll work. If the black somehow doesn't work, I think I'll mold them in.

Your latest mock up looks killer. This is a very refreshing take on a ‘49 Merc. Not that there hasn’t been contemporary versions done before but I think few get it right. This car is gonna be right-on.

I think black headlight rings would look good but then you’ll need to carry the black trim theme throughout the exterior for continuity. Personally, I think the lights would be best molded-in.

Thanx Dennis! The plan is for all of the chrome to be blacked out with the exception of the center medallion on the grille.

I got the first squirts of paint on! Wish it was on the body. But, the interior will do. Paint is Tamiya Dull Red. I really like this color for interiors! I still have to spray flat clear on the package shelf and floor. Plus detail paint.

I also have the body sanded and ready for final primer. The only issues were the rushed body work on the wheel openings. Hopefully, I can shoot one coat of gray and two of white to get it ready for paint.

The hold up has been smoothing the underside of the hood and trunk to get rid of the ejector marks. I'm also adding latch details to both.

I really need to get back on the chassis and engine. The exhaust and driveshaft need to be shortened. Everything needs to sanded. But, I figure I can do that while I'm waiting for the primer and paint to dry on the body. Plus, I can't make up my mind what color to paint the engine. All white, all black, black and white or Dull Red?

Thanx Sonny! I've got a lot of stuff done over the past few days. Too much to try to take photos of. Everything is in primer. Floorpan, engine/trans, suspension, valve covers and breather are in paint. The wheels and rotors are detailed ready to install. Sorry for the poor photo.

I also got the first coat of Pearl White on the body. And I'm disappointed in it. The hood and trunk don't match! Even though they were painted with the body. They're just a shade off. Once it's dry, I'm going to see what an additional coat of Pearl White will do. If that doesn't work, I'll sand them down and start again. I had to shoot three coats of white primer over the gray on the body. I'm thinking I may have only shot two on the hood and trunk. The shine is just a touch more than I want. I'm going to hit the floorpan with Satin Clear and see what it looks like. I may have to use Matte Clear. Other than the mismatched panels, I like how it looks!

Steller presentation and execution!  You've mapped out an awesome sport coupe version of Harry Bentley Bradley's favorite automobile to customize!  You might have one upped him with your Merc, Roger!  I've enjoyed watching the progress and the finish work so far is outstanding! -KK

Thanx Kit, I appreciate the kind words! I'm definitely no comparison to Harry Bentley Bradley. But, I do know how I want this model to look. And I wanted try some new things too.

The extra coat of Pearl White didn't work like I hoped. It brought the color up a shade. But, still not enough. So, I sanded the hood and trunk back down, shot the gray and have two coats of white on them. Once they're dried well, I'll shoot one more coat of white, sand, shoot a coat of Pearl White and see where I'm at. If it's good, I'll shoot another coat of paint and a coat of Semi Gloss clear. If not, I'll strip and start over. I shot a coat of semi gloss on the floor pan and it makes the shine exactly where I want it.
