I wonder if Round 2 has a future variant in their mind. I personally would love to see the kit backdated a few years to the C-4000. From a quick look at pics I found it can't be too difficult. The 4070A seems to be a better starting point for such a conversion than the 4070B.

It all depends on how they designed the tooling, if they had the foresight to design it so it's easy to change inserts to do another version of the same basic kit they could for sure do it, it means they have to cut some new tooling inserts tho'.

How did I miss this thread? Yes yes yes, and yes!! Man, I been looking for one of these for a while but they either don't exist for sale or are really expensive! oh I'm super excited about this one! New tooling and improved parts from a kit that hasn't been seen in decades, more of this please! I cant wait until this is available in the UK.

Me too, I haven't built a truck model since the mid 1990's, this one looks superb.

Nice to see they are basically doing a repop of the Original box design, But AMT should have left the Many Unique Features without the AMT in it! AMT Truck kit's didn't have any UNIQUE Features! Only Ertl had the better interior features, opening sleeper doors, and moveable steering of the front wheel's. Plus Ertl's Instruction sheet's were better with better illustrations with check off boxes! But that's just my opinion, and with that being said I'll be waiting for this kit to arrive on shelves !

I'm not entirely sure what this refers too either, but it is my understanding that Round 2 has made some minor enhancements in the design of the new tooling to enhance assembly and add further detail on top of the excellent original Ertl...perhaps that is what the wording refers to??? ....TIM

I'm guessing they wanted to keep the box art as close to the original as possible, but Round2 doesn't own the Ertl trademark, and I expect Tomy would want some cash to license it for use.

It will come with Spoke front wheels or Alcoa 10 holes and air bag suspension .!

It appears it will have the same wheels as the 4300, one piece 10 holes. Since this kit represents the '68-'73 4070A, not sure if the 10 hole one piece was even manufactured back then. These wheels seem to have come out around '74-'75?

Looks like the 10 hole wheels are optional per the test shot photos and Tim's original comments.

They could easily have been retrofitted when the tubeless tires became more popular, it's done all the time.
The 4070B Transtar II also has ten hole one piece front wheels but the rears are five hole, the 4300 has ten hole wheels all around.

Ebay seems to have a lot of people trying to sell there A and B model Transtars before the new one comes out, but I found this one very interesting. I hope that this isn’t going to be the normal for the new kit.

If you do a search on internet the retail prices are from $55 to $70 on most places, for $230 they will not sell a lot of them.

Ive noticed the prices for the "originals" seem to have dropped some since they announced the kit was coming back?.Seen a few that were sold in the 150-175 range, ive seen them as high as 400.00 .Pretty hard for me to give that much, especially since i remember buying them new in 74,for 3.75 at the local International dealership. harvey

I have a copy on pre order with Tower Hobbies, and I'm thrilled to see that Round2 did a major expansion on the decal's to include the stripes for the box art copy!

I wish Round 2 would label re-issues properly, give credit where credit is due. Put the ERTL name on those, and mold the chassis in black as Ertl did. Round 2 keeps labeling MPC re-issues as "AMT" as well.

This is a completely new tool though.  It was according to people in the know (Tim Ahlborn) who’ve done test builds for AMT/Round 2 of this kit explain that the whole thing was scanned from an original and modified.

I’m just glad it’s coming and hopefully more new tools will follow. I’ve preordered 2.
