Plowboy Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Just wrapped this one up today. It's been a journey for sure! I'm really happy with how it turned out! Just like I invisioned it! It's a kitbash of an AMT '49 Mercury and a Revell Foose Caddy. The body is all I used from the AMT kit. The rest is from the Caddy except for the wheels, tires and disc brakes. Starting with the frame, it was shortened 9mms behind the front suspension and 4 mms in front. The floorpan and interior were modified to fit the Mercury body. Both needed some material taken away and some added. The interior is painted with Tamiya Dull Red. The floorpan is Tamiya Pearl White. On the body, the top has been chopped 2 mms and sectioned 3mms. Under the hood, I scratch built new inner fenderwells and grafted in part of the Caddy's firewall. The engine/trans, core support/radiator is from the Caddy. At the rear, I hinged the trunk, added a latch and rain gutters. The body is painted with Tamiya Pearl White with a coat of Semi Gloss Clear. The black is Tamiya Satin Black. Wheels are Aoshima. Disc brakes are Pegasus. Thanx for checking it out! Any questions, just ask.
e30lover Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Fantastic restromod! Dull red for interior is one of my favourite colors too.
Charlie B Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Very nice love the modern additions on a classic
espo Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 I enjoyed watching you overcome every obstacle this build offered. Great looking details on the engine as well as the interior. Great job blending todays color and trim style with the early body design.
thomascoffey1959@gmail.com Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 I'm going to re-reread that wip. This thing is beautiful. NOT your grampa's Merc
stevehansen Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 REALLY COOL AND EXCELLENT BUILD!!! Had to stop and take a second look to really appreciate
ksnow Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Very nice build. That white and black scheme looks sharp.
jbattersby Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 One of the most unique looking Merc's I've seen in a long time, well done!
Spottedlaurel Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Great to see it finished, an inventive and very well-executed build. You're brave to go with the black trim against the white paintwork, no margin for error there!
bisc63 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 That came out nice! Was fun to follow the build process on this one.
Grumpa Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 "Just like I invisioned it!"....Wow...some vision! Roger...If "SEMA" had a model car catagory this "Merc" would be front and center! "Killer" build...really...really cool! I have an acquaintance that dropped a '53 Buick (with great patina) onto a wrecked 2010 Dodge Charger (ex-police car) with a Hemi. Intereior and all...almost fits like a glove. He has a ball everytime someone pulls up to a light and smiles at him...only to have their doors sucked off as he "smokes" them. This "Merc" is impressive, and your "vision" has definitley paid off!

This makes the fourth interior I've done in Dull Red. Time to find a different interior color. But, it looks so nice with certain colors.

I did learn (the hard way) how to do a decent Pearl White paint job.
Steve H Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Well, it certainly has the Roger Hayes look doesn’t it. I absolutely love your build style. Really enjoyed following the WIP thread on this one. Was the trim just Tamiya semi gloss black, or did you clear it? I definitely need some of that dull red, it looks awesome. Very clean build, and awesome colour combo. Cheers, Stev3
