Now for something completely different: Though i'm not into street rods, I wanted to have at least one typical example. In 1983, when one of the hobby shops in Vienna closed, I caught  this: 1/24 Monogram  1934 Ford Roadster  from theP1040855.JPG.52d7116aa71319336e6c849e91ccc428.JPGP1040856.JPG.4e5d3b07bb5fdbe884f15d61bcf0f520.JPGP1040857.JPG.4fbd6a3f09d07f73a49f8050324c9f90.JPG 1974  "Early Iron Series":  once again brush-painted with Humbrol orange, it  has a typical '70s look (at least to me) - the soft-top has been covered with clear matte which has started yellowing over the years - will get a repaint.

I think that this is the first time I’ve seen this version of the kit built, and box stock no less. Turned out nice and as you said, very 70’s.

Look's sharp, very 70's, that side view is sweet.

Thank you, Glen! I like that body style.

Lovely looking build, nice shinny paint.

Thank you Gareth - those Humbrol paints are ideal for brushing and lay downvery well - I've been using them for 50 years now - but unfortunately they seem to be no more available here.

Thanks, Dennis - I like the '70's look with some chrome accents.

Beautiful! Paint really laid down nicely, but looks more red than orange on my monitor! Great job!

Thank you Rusty - Humbrol paints are ideal for brushing and lay down very well - you are right: the paint looks like a mixture of red and orange (the orange indicators in the 1st picture are more yellowish than the body, and if you look at the rear light in pic 2, you will see that it is not red, but maybe in-between)

Humbrol paints are ok but they seem thinner than they used to be, they have changed over the years. Certain colours like silver are very gritty. I remember I could brush paint a model like you have done here and it would only take one coat and look smooth as you like, but now it has more of a consistancy like wood glue. It's still good paint but nowhere near as good as it used to be.

It always warms my heart to see any body style of a  33/34 Ford.

I love all the small details of silver and chrome that help the reddish/orange "very shiny" paint just "POP."

I'd like that on my display shelf ?.

Great job.

Thank you, Gareth for this info - I wasn't aware of that  - it must be far more than 20 years ago that I bought my last Humbrol paints.

Thank you, David - glad you like it.

I prefer rods and customs with a certain amount of chrome as in this case - I don't like the monochromatic paint jobs of the late 80's and 90's (chromeless, too), but this is a matter of personal taste.

Your build really displays how nicely those early Monogram kits build up and this is one of my favourites. I still have some of the Humbrol brush painted builds from my youth and they stand up well alongside spray painted models of my adulthood.  However, as others have commented, the Humbrol of today is much thinner and more inclined to streaks than that beautiful old enamel.

Congratulations on a beautiful model!

Cheers

Thanks, Alan - Gareth has already informed me that Humbrol paints are no longer what they used to be.
