blizzy63 Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Oh no. Another '65 El Camino in my stash! My urges say I gotta have that original-issue-style box art. The '65 Chevelle AWB kit, on the other hand, is a must-have that I've been waiting for...
mikemodeler Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 My wallet is safe this month from these releases. Now if only the 2021 Bronco would hit the stores.......... 1
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 The 32 Ford Switchers kit is cool. I know that it was from the past when I was a kid but I never saw one then. I like the concept.
Snake45 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 After being safe for several months, my poor wallet/credit card is going to take a BIG hit this month. Oh hell, it's my birthday--how many more of those can I have coming? 1
GMP440 Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Good news on the Time Machine Chevelle AWB kit. Put me down for that one.
Motor City Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 I'd like to see that '72 GSX in model kit form. 1

Carmak Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) Does anyone know if the 65 El Camino will have taillight bezels? The original issue had a bezel the taillight lens sat in. Without a bezel the lens is lost in the hole in the body. I have a couple original issues with bezels. Not sure if the bezels just got blocked off or were cut up to add another feature to the chrome tree. Edited August 2, 2023 by Carmak

TonyK Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Built the Chevelle AWB model when I was a kid so probably will have to do it again. Interested to see what "all new tooling" means even though I won't remember what it was originally.
Mark Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 All new means just that. The original altered wheelbase Chevelle started out as a dealer promotional model, was sold as a snap-together kit, then the body was converted to the funny car. Later the body was again altered to create a dirt track car, itself reissued a couple of years ago.
SteveG Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 The '65 Chevelle AWB tooling itself is all-new, but the design is cloned off of the original Funny Car kit with minimal changes to improve the fit and some of the stock body trim was removed. Also, the tires are now molded in a vinyl like material vs hard styrene. It's close enough to the vintage kit that we could re-use the original box art. The dirt track '65 Chevelle tooling is untouched and can be re-issued in the future. -Steve 2 3
ChrisBcritter Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Steve, when the cloning was done did they finally fix the hood so it's even all the way across where it touches the cowl?
1972coronet Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 How about bashing the AWB Chevelle with the related-in-origins El Camino ? Put the camper on top of that rascal, too !

Not sure if the bezels just got blocked off or were cut up to add another feature to the chrome tree. The 1970s issues had the chrome bezels filled in to eliminate the red lens. When Ertl reissued the Elky, they had evidently found the lens tool, but blocked off the bezel from the chrome tree. I dont recall if Round 2 ever unblocked the bezel gates, but yeah, the lenses are now pretty much useless. Maybe @Steve Gwould have some insight.
ChrisBcritter Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 (edited) What's being used now are the custom taillight lenses from the 1964 El Camino and station wagon: (Images via Drastic Plastics' Fotki album) They fit flush with the opening OK, but you have to cut them down and add thin sheet plastic around them to make bezels - or find an earlier issue of the '65 wagon/El Camino to get the correct lenses and bezels; just another thing AMT messed up but never fixed (like the hood). The chromed tail lamps have been unblocked and are included in this latest issue of the Elky, but they are not shown on the instructions sheet. I just checked my test build and those are what I used. The red lenses are still included but are a poor fit without the original chromed bezels. The clear custom grille was also restored with clear camper windows. The drag engine parts have also been returned for this issue. Note this kit will also make a good donor for another project I'm working on, yet to be announced. -Steve 1 3

Looks like they copied the raised center on the hood, same as the El Camino which I'm assuming is also wrong at the back edge. Looks like it supposed to taper off toward the back edge. One of the downsides of cloning old kits is sometimes the errors are copied too. -Steve 1

He just passed along a very big hint about a future project he is apparently working on, that I do not think is (my guess here) on anybody's radar screen right now. Just saying!!! TB 2

RSchnell Posted August 4, 2023 Posted August 4, 2023 How's the fit on the '57 T-bird? I need to look into that. I'm in for one of those and the El Camino.
