papajohn97 Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 After visiting the Nethercutt Museum in Sylmar, CA a few weeks ago, I got inspired to build one of these old 1/24 Monogram classic car kits from the ‘70’s. Despite lacking the crisp detail of more recent kits, I must say this one went together really nicely, looks relatively realistic proportion-wise and was fun to add a few details to the engine. The chromed wire wheels that came with most of these kits scream “toy” to my eyes so I think painting them (to look like many of the actual 1:1 restored cars) really helps. Anyways, a nice break from building drag cars and so much fun to paint and assemble, I’ve picked up a few more from this series to do in the near future. Cheers, John 12
Yeah Nah Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Now THAT is one gorgeous Packard. Beautiful job! 1
StevenGuthmiller Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 The color combo is over the top! But there’s no question that it works. A real attention grabber!! Steve
karbuildr Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Beautiful build. I really like the color combo and all the details. I agree the wire wheels look much better painted.
Richard Bartrop Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Nicely done, and a coat of paint makes a world of difference on those wheels
Hoffman Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Super clean build! Very nice, John. ? And the Nethercutt is a VERY inspirational place. I've spent some time there over the years. Always thoroughly enjoy it.
Dan Hay Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 That’s sharp! I’ve got a Jo-Han 31 Cad that this build makes me want to build.
happy grumpy Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Absolute beauty. The color is spot on and the engine details are awesome. I love the old monogram classic series, I wish I had them all.
spencer1984 Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Beautiful job on this, the painted spokes look far better than the chrome ones ever could!
Nacho Z Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Outstanding! I would have never thought of that color combo but it looks so good together. Nice job, John!
Rattlecan Dan Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Great job! I know how difficult it is to keep the build so very nice and clean. Great paint, great detail.
baycolony Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Love it. You did a splendid job on this old kit!
papajohn97 Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 (edited) Thank you guys for all the nice comments! 11 hours ago, Dan Hay said: I’ve got a Jo-Han 31 Cad that this build makes me want to build. I’ve been shopping online for more of these Monogram classic kits and thinking about picking up the Jo-Han Caddies as well. I’ve read that these classic car kits never sold well compared to other car kits so I’m surprised that they are so plentifully after 50 -60 years and most are still available in the $25 - $40 range. Another reason to buy and build more of this genre! Edited November 14, 2023 by papajohn97 Spelling 1
rrb124@sbcglobal.net Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 So much to see on this model. Super build. Wish I could find the headlights to add to one of my hot rod 32 Ford builds. The large lights are a real focal point.
peter31a Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Beautiful build of the Packard! Love the colour combination.
NOBLNG Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 That is a gorgeous model of a gorgeous car!??
