Vette_lover2004 Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 just curious how long, " a while" is, per the forum guidelines? I only ask this, because I was doing business with a well established forum member, which could've been handled in a day or two. It took nearly a week due to forum moderators needing to approve my content. Am I looking at months of moderation, amount of posts? The guidelines don't cover the timeline. It says, " a while". I'm just wondering how long I'm going to be on probation.
peteski Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Does that mean that PMs also moderated for new members?

" "nice build !" and "very nice!" in at least 15 threads and then bingo, you're off moderation! ?

I don't want to add, just to add and get off probation, if that makes sense. I have a WIP Bigfoot I'm doing, so I've largely added to that topic. 1

On everything I submit, I get a notice in large red letters stating it needs a pproval from the moderators. I'm on a desktop currently, and I see it the same as I see it on my phone, at the moment.
bobthehobbyguy Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 I believe the PMs are moderated to keep the bots from generating the bogus want to buy scams. The bots would sign up and scan the want ads and PM and members. The moderation for regular posts is to reduce spam. You can thank the spammers and scammers for having to do the moderation.
Dave Ambrose Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 You need 25 approved posts before you come off moderation. I don't like this, but it's keeping the spammers away. I'd deal with that problem directly, but I'm out of cruise missiles. 1 1

Make sure you are actually trying to send a PM and not posting on their status page. They are different. If you post to a status page, others can see it.

Bugatti Fan Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Sometimes a very short 'Nice Model' or 'Really like your build' reply is nice to get. Some people are more wordy than others with their replies, others not, whilst many just use the 'like' just for speed. Just people's different reply styles. 2

Sorry to see you go. Unfortunately, the minor inconvenience that moderation causes you helps to provide a safer, more secure site for all the other members. Given the types of things that moderation has allowed us to catch before posts were made viewable to the members has shown that it is an invaluable tool for us. We do not like having to approve all of the posts, but the the amount of spam and adult oriented material that we catch daily shows that it will not be going anywhere anytime soon. 1

A way has been given to you to easily achieve the required number of posts to be able to freely use this forum. It is your choice to do so or leave. The moderation is a step to try to protect this forum from those who would wreak havoc here for their own twisted joy. Those of us who love it here appreciate those efforts. bobthehobbyguy Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Hopefully you will reconsider. You are only 10 posts from the required 25 posts. Yhr thing is if exceptions are made then others will want them also. Which makes even more work for the mods. Unfortunately the bots were causing all sorts of havoc. The lost attack was really bad.
blunc Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 please remember that this forum is paid for by Gregg H and most likely the moderators don't get paid for herding cats. More than likely when you created your account, you agreed to the very things you are complaining about. It would be unfortunate if the moderators had to adopt the "one strike and you're out" ruling I have seen in Faceborg modeling groups. Please be nice to the administrators and moderators, they receive very little thanks from the cats they are herding.
Kent_Frazier Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 FWIW, as a new member here I don't mind the moderation. Thank you to the moderators for the time they put into this.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 I really don’t understand the issue. seriously? 25 posts? That’s about a half an hour’s worth of posts if you put forth even a minimum of effort. Steve 2
Coyote_6 Posted June 4, 2024 Posted June 4, 2024 I think it is a novel solution. Better than helping AI determine what frames have a motorcycle or school bus in them everytime you post. The longest I've waited for a post approval is maybe 8 hours whilst wearing my rookie stripes! ? Nice place - ya gotta keep it that way. Steve
