Steve H Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Hi folks, As the title says, this is a tribute to honour Roger Hayes. He was my favourite builder on this site, and his passing really shocked me. Plowboy had an amazing eye for colour, detail, and was an extremely talented builder. His builds were often subtle both in colour, and modifications, almost always understated. If you are new(ish) here, do yourself a favour and search some of his work. His WIP’s always had lots of great tidbits, I learned a ton from him, and am a better builder because of him. I miss him here… RIP Roger, we miss you pal. For my build, I wanted to incorporate a few of Roger’s builds, and meld them together into one. I started with a 60 Ford P/U, converted it to a shortbox/uni-body, lowered it, tucked the bumpers, opened the grill, tapered the hood, removed the quarter windows, blacked out the trim, and added custom decals. There is a rubber bed liner in the box to protect the paint when hauling parts to the speed shop. The interior got bucket seats, a console with cup holders, dash was modified with new gauges and a nav screen, seat belts, arm rests, PE window cranks, and keys in the ignition. paint is Tamiya dull red, Roger’s favourite interior colour. Under the hood I added an engine from the Super Stallion Mustang, 3d printed battery, washer fluid jug and wiper motor, brake master cylinder, and some very basic wiring. Wheels and tires are from the Foose truck, disc brakes from Pegasus. Link to the build thread below which has more about the build, but more importantly some links to Roger’s incredible work. The first 5 photos are of Plowboy’s work, and my inspiration. I wanted the “look” of his 49 Merc, the subject matter of the 60 Ford P/U, engine from the 62, the uni-body style of the 63 P/U, and wanted to include the colour of the Taurus. (Tailgate letters) The shop truck… colour is pearl white, with one coat of pearl clear, followed by matte clear As always, thanks for looking, and all comments welcome. A big thank you to all of you that followed along on the WIP, and took the time to comment, and share your stories, and favourite builds of Plowboy’s. Probably my most enjoyable build thread. Really cool to know how many of you/us were inspired by him. His legacy lives on. Also want to mention Chuck Most, and Al Rich (thatz4you) who both did tribute builds as well. Cheers, Steve 12

Phildaupho Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Excellent project that has turned out exceptionally well. I hope you will be entering it in this weekends model show.
slusher Posted April 8 Posted April 8 A Stunning and impressive build, Steve definitely Rogers style of build! Roger and I was good friends and I miss him so much…
Maindrian Pace Posted April 11 Posted April 11 What can I say Steve, it's absolutely fantastic, slammed it right outta the park. Everything about this says that Roger built it. As a tribute, it couldn't be more accurate in emulating his style. I think he would be speechless, I know I was.

I know you were a big fan of his builds, so this means a lot coming from you. Roger and I had similar taste, we also both liked diverse subjects. I don’t build at the level he did, but it was rewarding to do this in his honour, and the WIp 2
