Not sure if you're aware but they also issued that kit with non-transparent parts as well. Basically all of the clear Parts in the kit you have were grey styrene instead. I have one of each and I was thinking about kind of mixing and matching it to make it look a bit like one of the old cutaway engines where some of it you can see and some of it you can't. I thought that would look kind of cool. Yea I've purchased both recently. As I'm working on both, I'm not sure I would recommend either one of them to anybody. Especially the transparent version. I just finished, within the last hour, trying to get 3 of the last 4 pistons in the rear of engine to agree to go into each of their cylinder holes. A lot of filing on the cylinder walls, and sanding of pistons themselves took place to get them to fit. The front 4, and the last one on the right bank were no problems. Inserting the pistons in the non-transparent, version I had no problems with either. Why the problem with transparent one? There are other things with both kits I'm not very impressed with. There is no real way of setting the timing of the crankshaft with the camshaft. There are two little dots on both the crankshaft and camshaft gears. But, there is no real information in the instruction manual indicating if that's these dots are for. Nor is there anything on the crankshaft gear to keep it held in the same position as the crankshaft rotates. The more I look at these two kits, the more I question why they even designed and expected one to build these kits with any working features. The non-transparent one has another mystery. It has a lot of detail that after you build it, you'll never see again. They give you the impression, that one can take apart the kit to see the internals after it's built. Poppycock. The best one can do is leaving the valve covers lose to see the upper valve train. On the box, they show leaving the intake manifold lose too. But, with all the plumbing on the top side, that doesn't really look all that to practical to me. As I'm working on both kits, I'm beginning to realize why I can find little information on these kits online. Built or unbuilt. I'm also realizing why I've never seen one built, in the flesh. It's not a great kit. Too small, compared to the old Renwal/Revell Visiable V-8. And in several ways tougher to build. It's seem like a model one hears about several people have hidden away in their collection. But, none fully built. And I can see why. I'm bound and determined to get these kits done. Presently I have the time to do them. So they will not be going back into their boxes half done. You should see them here, finished, in a week or two.

Start to finish your mold is ready in less than half an hour. I buy it with 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby, only about $16 or $18, very reasonable. I've made quite a few little molds from it and have hardly put a dent in the amount. Did I mention it's WONDERFUL stuff? Agreed. I've had this set for probably close to 6 years and I don't think I've used a third of it. I have a couple of sandwich bags full of molds that I've made with it, with everything from head light lenses to window cranks. 3 hours ago, Erik Smith said: Thanks for all the replies - Yup, fortunately it’s a simple shape. Carving one from styrene would be ok, but it has small ribs that wouldn’t be easy to do. I have some casting stuff around but I think it’s probably all bad from time and sitting idle. I’ll give the putty trick a try though! If you like Erik, you can always drop the original in an envelope and send it to me. I'll whip up a half dozen tail light lenses for you and send them back. Hell, I'll even paint them for you with some Testors Stop light red if you'd like. Steve Edited March 28, 2020 by StevenGuthmiller
Khils Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 I have used this several times for replicating small part molds...heat it in hot water till soft, (chewed gum)... form over part, let it cool, remove your part, add your choice of material....resin, 2 part epoxy...works really good with milliput. When cooled...Nearly Nothing ( won't say everything!) sticks to it but itself....No longer need the mold...heat it & reform something else.
RancheroSteve Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 A box of stuff from Replicas & Miniatures. Beautiful as always.
PierreR89 Posted March 28, 2020 Posted March 28, 2020 A few things just to fill up my supplys as i was running out of everything apparently. Tamiya clear blue and yellow, tamiya putty, black tamiya panelline accent and glue. Molotow 1&2mm chromepens and molotow blackliner + a wethering set to create rust effects from vallejo. Did also order a few parts for my Mack wrecker from auslowe so it can call it done.

I've used the "Amazing" brand, which is also made by Alumilite. It's what I use to cast pre-"drilled" distributors. You can go from zero, to never having to buy another one, or drill another one, ever again, in less than an hour.

89AKurt Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Mercedes Unimog U 1300L Paris-Dakar. Never knew that I *had to* get this kit, never saw one before. I would love a first generation Unimog, never have seen one of those, didn't care to get the firetruck that is currently available. Since I built the Porsche 959 P-D, *had to* get this. Told myself that I have enough models, so WTH? ?

I’ll give the putty trick a try though! Ah! You jarred my foggy memory! The tail lights you need have the ribs on them. The last Scrambler version had flat ones. Back when that kit was still current I came into a beat up 66 American promo that I was going to build some silly pro street rod from, my friend John Slivoski needed the ribbed tail lights to restore a car. It didn’t matter much to my project so I traded them to him for the flat ones he had.

Far as I can tell, still pliable and not sticky, if that's what you are wondering about. The box art model are completely different tires.

Well, I looked it up online, since mine is sealed and I really do not want to open it yet, and here is a shot of the instructions. Looks like it is one piece and can be on and off, if you don't glue it down.

BTW: I borrowed one of those for a trip to Moab, Utah, it was so weird to be sitting over the front wheels.
