Partially crushed box, rolled the dice, got it home...everything IN the box is 100%. It wants to be something kinda like this...semi sleeper smallblock-powered pro-touring, fat blackwalls, steel-look 18" alloys, poverty caps etc. (yes, I know it's not a '65 in the dark-car photo). Something sorta like the Night Prowler 65 that was on Fantom Works?

I wasn't familiar with that one, but in the course of researching it I ran across the fact that early '65s could be had with 409s. The iron 409 is a heavy lump, but aftermarket aluminum blocks and heads can fix that, so this one will get built representing a 409 car with current upgrades. Probably a stout 5-speed manual and Jag-derived IRS to finish it off, with tubular front A-arms, etc. Big fat car with loads of grunt, that handles like a Jag XJ. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/sucp-0912-merlinx-409-engine-prototype/ Edited September 11, 2024 by Ace-Garageguy TYPO

Thanks. I didn't know that. So that's probably where one of the better 409s I have from unknown sources came from. I was never really interested in the full-size '65 Chevy previously, but it was so cheap, I just kinda had to let it follow me home. One thing I do remember from when I arrived in the Atlanta suburbs in 1969 was that the '65 Chevy was the most-stolen car in the metropolitan area.
mk11 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 (edited) That '65 ragtop kit is a fantastic parts source for the '65 Parisienne 409 conversion I've been picking away at Edited September 14, 2024 by mk11 1

Bill Eh? Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Local to me, there is a major contest this Saturday, TORCAN. What do you do before a major contest with a large number of vendors? Check out your favourite Kijiji seller in London, ON, who will also be at TORCAN! So I bought these kits from John yesterday and I received the package in today's mail. The first four were the kits that I purchased. Two other kits of Nissan JDM goodness were included! 7

Richard Bartrop Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 These arrived in the mail today from 3D Scale Parts. The look really nice, with only some tiny bits of flash. The whitewalls will finally let me go ahead with the John Athan roadster project. The blackwalls, I'm still undecided, though I am thinkjing they'd look awfully good on a Deuce or Model A roadster. 4

Ace-Garageguy Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 (edited) There was some interest here last week in old aftermarket hot-rod and 12-port heads for the big old GMC sixes (and similar equipment for the smaller Chevy inlines) from years past, and it kindled my interest as to what's still available info-wise on the web. Information is getting more and more difficult to come by on a lot of old stuff that's "no longer relevant", so I did a search for some primary source material. One of the best things I came up with was this, a NOS 1995 reprint of the 1954 original...and for a fraction of the current asking price all over the interdwerbs. Ace-Garageguy Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Underwhelmed by another Ollie's "score"...the Polar Lights repop of the old Aurora Undertaker dragster kit. I should have looked up some online builds, but I got suckered by the low price and the box art. I should have known better. It looked like at least the front-blown Chrysler 392 and some other parts would be worth the price, but on opening the kit, it looks like the 392 is underscale, the front blower setup seems to be way underscale, and there's not much of anything else I can really use other than possibly the old-school whitewall narrow slicks, rear wheels, and some chassis stuff. The upside is that the intake manifold for the front-blown 392 and possibly the up-pipes from the blower, and maybe the front cover/blower drive, might make a starting point to convert a scale-correct 392 to a front-blown (Potvin?) configuration for something else. Oh well. At least it was cheap. I also picked up a Monogram 1/24 Nomad, just because I'd never had one. I knew exactly what to expect though, because it's just a Nomad body on the old 1/24 Bel Air kit, with sorta Centerline wheels and no-name fat tires. Pretty funny, it looks like people are buying these at Ollies and listing them on feePay for 2 or 3 times what they paid. I'd intended to do a gasser with the Bel Air kit, as the front bumper looks too heavy to me, but removing it for a gasser eliminates that problem. So the Nomad will probably get gasserized too, something like this, but not as silly nosebleed-high. I DO like the illustration though. 3

His ignition key would unlock my doors, and his door key would start my car. Mine did the same on his. My wagon was stolen sometime later from my home, but was recovered a few days later in a shopping center parking lot nearby. It was undamaged, so I imagine the key thing was used to get it for a joyride. No, my friend lived in a different city, and didn't know where I lived. 3

NOBLNG Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 I traded an AMT ‘21 Bronco for this today. Then I went to a flea market and picked this up for $5. It had a complete built Gran Torino in the box with it, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong?? Unfortunately, the glass for the Barracuda is missing along with the #17 tail light center piece.? 5

Remember doing the same thing while hanging out with some friends that had Chevrolets of different year models. We would walk around and open each other's car trunks and even unlock the glove boxes. Little wonder so many were stolen besides being a popular car.
