disabled modeler Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 This is what the mailman brought to me yesterday, wins from a live auction group I'm in on Facebook, and all of the older kits in the front are all still factory sealed originals. The Type K Sportwagon is one of my "Holy Grail" kits! Awesome finds Matthew...!!! Quote

niteowl7710 Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 that being said this kit is a 71' Roadrunner without the markings .............. to bad Monogram did not have the rights to warner bros at the time this kit was made ?I'd believe in the early 80s when the kit was done, MPC would have held the Warner Bros license because of the tie in to Dukes of Hazzard and Daisy's '74. IIRC, the first release of the Superbird didn't have the Road Runner wing decals. The MPC '74 was labeled a GTX in it's one early 80s release, it wasn't until about 10 years ago that it was released as Daisy's Road Runner. Also, it seems that AMT lost the Road Runner naming license for a while--their '68 Road Runner was released as a '68 Plymouth back around 2000. Edited October 15, 2017 by Rob Hall Quote

Rob Hall Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 (edited) Yes. The first was a 77 Volare, then they issued 77, 78 and 79 kits with Road Runner box art and decals. Then oddly the 1980 was just called Fuzz Duster with no mention of Volare or Road Runner. Edited February 8, 2018 by Rob Hall Quote

StevenGuthmiller Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 My score today at a local model/toy show. I always kind of wondered what egg headed kit designer decided that kits modeled after one of the worst presidents in the history of the country, and his hay seed brother, was a good idea. I would imagine that they are collectors items today, but I personally wouldn't give a plug nickel for one of them. Evidently, nobody ever considered a Ronald Reagan pickup truck & horse trailer or a Richard Nixon gasser. I wonder why? Do you think it could have been political? Steve Quote
Terminator-Fox Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 (edited) I'm pretty sure the kit was mocking him. I like oddball kits and yes they are valuable. Edited October 16, 2017 by Terminator-Fox Quote

Whether they were meant to mock him or not, I can't believe that anybody thought they would sell. My, how the modeling hobby has changed! Today, we can't get a manufacturer to produce the kits that we want, yet back then they were making trash like this. Steve Quote

ANYTHING! That gave us all those very odd MPC customs etc. And don't forget that the target audience was kids. Now a days we have a tough time with a 10,000 kit run of good stuff! Quote

There are other areas here where you can express political opinions. It's not about politics Scott. It's about what kits will sell & which won't.All we hear these days when discussing what new kits we would like to see is how they have to be a subject which will make money, which seems to be why we see nothing but Camaros & early Fords.I guess back then, there was no consideration as to whether or not a kit will be successful. Daddyfink Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 So they added a crazy nose piece and made new decals for an existing Funny Car tool that was pretty bad to begin with. I really don't see what the big deal is, it is not like they made a whole new tool for this. And, it ended up being an oddball collectible for kit collectors. Quote
bandit1 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 It all depends on the condition, this one is still factory sealed and lets just say I paid around the price of a current issue kit for it! Well the one i found is opened and i think the engine halves have been glued together but easily reversable... and the box itself as a bit of damage where the sides have been flattened out per say???... What should be reasonable price then if you know? Quote
gtx6970 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 One for the pile. One of the old Johan Re-issue 1968 Chrysler 300 promos. These were sold back in the 80s and early 90's . I used to have a 1/1 . So I have a soft spot for these cars. Quote
