my wife had her windshield replaced by a major chain windshield shop this past weekend. When she drove to work today she found that the mechanic left his bag of tools in the back seat. since the appointment was done online, my wife didnt know who to call. I used the online customer support chat to find the phone number to call to get the mechanic back his tools.

The customer service rep came on, and i explained it to them, and they replied you need to contact the shop directly, and immediately ended chat. did not give me an opportunity to respond asking for the number or how i can find the number. i clicked chat again and got someone the second time, who contacted them for me and told me someone would call me to schedule a pickup time.

I am so tired of customer service being jerks. their whole job is customer service. i wasnt trying to complain, i just wanted to get the tools back to them, i imagine they arent cheap

Following up on this. the shop called my wife to schedule pickup of the tools left in her car, and she said she is in at her job today, and gave the town name or if he cant go that far, then he can get them tomorrow at our home.

He said i need them today, so she said then you will need to come to my job. He told her it was too far, so she said you will need to get them tomorrow then from our apartment if you wont drive here to my job. She cant leave her job to drive it home. I cant leave my job to get them either. It would take us almost 2 hours to get them and get back.

He agreed to get it tomorrow from our apartment.

Gee, did he want his tools back or not?  If I had pulled that bonehead play, I'd be grateful that: (1) whoever had them contacted me, and (2) they weren't asking for anything.  I can see your trying to be helpful, but that should be within reason.

One of those installers put a windshield in my first pickup a bunch of years back, they proceeded to gouge the paint on the A-pillar down to the primer.  They then put blue tape over the scratch (and in a few other places) and told me the tape was necessary to hold the windshield in position until the goop cured.  I then got the runaround from them when I called about the damage...

He is supposed to pick them up tomorrow from our apartment. when my wife gets home tonight ftom work she is going to bring them inside.

I Work from home, so i will be able to hand them to him when he comes. Unfortunately she didn't see them until she arrived at work.

Unfortunately my wifes commute is about 1 hour each way

One of the shops I contract with routinely repairs beyond-idiot damage done by a local comes-to-you franchise.

Their removal chimps frequently cut pinch-welds, destroy interior pillar moldings and dash covers, gouge exterior paint, and leave huge whistling "flow through ventilation" air leaks.

Seriously...we repair structural damage they've caused about every two months, and repairing hacked pinch-welds ain't cheap.

I honestly don't know how these clowns stay in business.

Let's see...last one, last week, they did the windshield for under $300. Cut structure under the glass, tried to hide it, and ended up taking the windshield back out AND PAYING US $1500 to repair the damage they caused.

This has been ongoing for several YEARS.

The company that did that windshield wasn't around long.  They first opened up selling windshield wipers in ex-Fotomat kiosks (remember Fotomat?) and branched out into insurance jobs doing windshield replacements.  They also had kiosks in a couple of shopping malls, and there they'd always have someone glad-handing and handing out flyers.  The couple of times that poor unfortunate person managed to corner me, I'd make sure he/she, and a few others, heard about what they'd done to my truck, and how I made sure everyone I knew heard about it.  Between the overpriced windshield wipers, (probably) pretty high overhead on their locations in spite of not paying employees too much, and all the screw-ups, they didn't last long.  Someone else put a windshield in my next pickup, they did a great job that time.

It was yesterday but I'll complain today. I spend they last few weekends at my fathers helping him put power steering in his 51 Chevy truck. It fought us every step of the way. Put in a new column, power steering pump, relocated the box, new joints, hoses, belt and more stuff, got it together, took it for a ride and it wanders all over the road as bad as it did before. When I jacked it up to start looking at what was going on, I grabbed the drivers side wheel and noticed it moved. I thought it was the wheel bearing but NOOO, it's the king pins. So now it's all back apart waiting for new parts again. I'm beginning to hate this truck! Meanwhile my father is grinding valves for a Model A he's working on and the belt goes bad on the machine. No big deal if the machine wasn't over 70 years old. Now we have to find a belt for that too.

That’s so good you found the problem but on something that old many things could be replaced..

I still need to have the windshield replaced on my Hyundai. Back when it happened I called three places and never got a call back!

Then I decided to wait until the weather was above freezing so the sealant would dry properly.  I guess I should get to it.

The fellow picked up the tool bag today. He arrived 30 minutes later than the scheduled time, but thankfully I didn't have a meeting scheduled at that time. If he was 30 minutes later, i would have needed to put the bag at the door

We got pretty much the same amount of snow overnight.  Those pics look like they could have been taken here.  My snow brush wasn't put away yet, but was close...but it was still in the hallway near the door.  The branches on the backyard trees loaded up a lot more, seeing as they had leaves starting to grow on them.  They're drooping closer to the house than ever before, I think they might get a trim over the summer...

Shot some Krylon Italian Olive Satin on a car interior the other day. The cap color was exactly what I wanted. The actual paint color is several shades darker. Irked me because this interior is supposed to be a light olive green with dark green accents. The dark green would hardly be worth doing on this color. Oh well, it's an all dark green interior now. It's only a glue bomb rescue anyway.

The Cincinnati Reds game was postponed last night in the eighth inning due to sleet.

The local TV weather forecasters said up to an inch.....we got THREE!  Enough already.  It was 60 degrees yesterday afternoon.

Three of the dogs gave a serious "what is this???" when I let them out this a.m.   Brian?   Doggie Snow Angels!!!!

What irked me?  Forum members (many are guilty) quoting a post with lots of large photos, without resizing or deleting either all, or most photos, just to add a 1-liner reply.  Come on people - learn to trim the quoted posts.  It is not that difficult. :( My scrolling finger hurts!

Agree also! Keep a photo only if it is relevant to your reply, and even edit out the text parts if it was a long post that aren’t relevant also.

DITTO!

Don't think there is a thread, SOMETHING THAT ONLY TOOK DECADES TO LEARN.  Measuring a job, used the 100 foot tape measure to get an overall length.  Never had it fall between the boards and get stuck like this!  Owner had to get his drill out so we could move one board.  Told him I wasn't going to charge for this time.  ?

the hallmark channel got rid of the matlock reruns. i watched all 3 episodes every day. i was hoping to watch them all at least once. i have seen most already, but its been so long that i dont really remember each episode.  the complete series box set is like 100 dollars, which is too much. i guess i will see if one comes up cheaper.

they put murder she wrote on in its place. i guess i will give that a try.

this is not really a thing that irked me, but something unusual going on at my apartment complex.

i live in a really quiet town and i am on a street that gets next to no traffic. anyway, this morning when i was sitting at my desk looking out the window, dreaming of a better life, i see a cop pull up and stop in front of my apartment.  a minute later a guy pulls up in a dark unmarked sedan and stops next to the cop, they roll their windows down and talk for a minute, and then the guy makes a u-turn behind the cop. both the cop and the guy get out of the car and walk to a neighbors apartment. the regular guy was wearing normal clothes, like jeans and a t-shirt, not cop-ly looking clothes.

anyway, they go to the neighbors door and were there for a couple of minutes or so and then they left. i am very curious as to what is going on, im sure it was nothing because the neighbor wasnt dragged off in cuffs or anything. (im curious because im very nosy)

nothing like when i was in my old apartment and i got home to see there was like 5 cop cars and a neighbor was in handcuffs. a couple weeks later i was out washing my car and the guy that was in cuffs came to me and started talking to me that he was arrested for threatening the maintenance guy with a gun because he couldnt or wouldnt fix his dishwasher that day. he said he plead guilty and they took his guns. he said he never threatened the guy, just that he was holding the gun when the guy was there. he said now he was going to sue the landlord for whatever was going to sue them for. i quickly finished washing my car and left. the guy was really weird and creepy.
