Gun like trigger with an adjustable flame and a flexible nozzle. They're usually on sale for $1.99 or so and last a long time. We BBQ a lot and one or two will last the whole summer even with all the candles my wife seems to like lighting all the time. Was that for me or NOBLNG?

I’m building an exhaust system and the Bic lighters I have don’t have a strong enough flame to be used at any angle other than vertical. I had to light round toothpicks to get a little heat (that worked pretty good?) for localized adjustments in place. AND the Evergreen rod I’m using isn’t always “solid”….it has some voids in the center.? Maybe get a butane lighter for pipes? Those are like mini torches but probably not quite as hot.

Not you specifically, but for everyone offering ideas for the heating and bending of plastic rods to make exhaust and what nots. Some of the ideas put forth, while valid, were on the relatively expensive side. Being a bit of a cheap skate, I try and find lower cost alternatives.
MrMiles Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 (edited) i had credit card fraud on my credit card, and then after i had an unrelated refund of 1200 to my account. i have been dealing with my bank for close to a month on this. nobody seems to be able to help get the money refunded to the new account number spent an hour with them on the phone, i think i finally got someone who understands the problem. Calb56 Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 Okay, so this is trivial but still... one of my wife's early jobs as a teenager was a seasonal job wrapping gifts at a department store (remember those?) and she still wraps presents which look professional, so she wraps everyone's presents. I, on the other hand end up wrapping her presents and they look like they were done by a kindergarten student hopped up on a sugar high who just discovered scotch tape. No matter how careful or slowly I go... 1

TonyK Posted December 8, 2022 Posted December 8, 2022 I used to wrap presents pretty good when I was younger but didn't build models very well. Now I suck at wrapping presents but do a decent job on a model.
espo Posted December 9, 2022 Posted December 9, 2022 I have found the best solution for presents for my wife. 1: ask her what she wants. 2: let her pick it out, be sure of colors and such. 3: Live happily ever after.
Ace-Garageguy Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Native English speaking American news-readers who don't know everyday words like "basin". Really?

Bugatti Fan Posted December 10, 2022 Posted December 10, 2022 Speaking of Native English speaking. Why do Microsoft Refer to English as English European and not just English? I can understand the term US English as many of our words are spelt differently in the States. 1

stitchdup Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 I'm born and bred scottish but when my mum and aunt are drinking i have no idea if they're about to fight or just solved world hunger. See if you can guess what these words mean. chettling tither by but midden by ben chettle feesked fluffy baa baa ferry looper and thats not to mention all the words that have more than one meaning and none are close to each other 1 2
Bugatti Fan Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 (edited) I have never seen Scottie sub titled in Star Trek. Lol. Language is a funny thing, especially dialects. I watched Swamp People some time ago and can generally understand a Southern US accent alright. But there was one character on the programme who's accent was completely unintelligible, but no sub titles. He is an alligator Hunter and what he had to say would probably have been very interesting if I could have understood him. Edited December 11, 2022 by Bugatti Fan

He is an alligator Hunter and what he had to say would probably have been very interesting if I could have understood him. One of my family members was interviewed on that restoration nation program a few years ago, he got subtitles but his accent was very strong as you'd expect when he'd only left the island (north ronaldsay) for military service and never left it since he came back in 1960. Mt gran on my mums side could talk away to broad yardie jamaican accents like it was nothing (the really strong reggae type accent, not the posh british jamaican accent) and you'd have thought she was jamaican but its just the similarity of the accents and how words have been broken down through use. Its like when people in england say about americans butchering the language but the truth is its about inclusivity. Everybody forgets that its not just english speaking people that migrated to america so with such a melting pot of languages it was never going to stay the same as og english. I think thats why so many spellings and meanings changed over the years

Probably Cajun. I live in the Southern US, and I can't understand some of 'em either. It's a patois of Acadian French with some English seasoning, and there are wide variations. Monty Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 One of my German teachers in college was born and raised near the German-Swiss border. She became highly proficient in English and eventually came to the US to teach German. She recounted how her first stop after NYC was in Atlanta where she felt entirely out of her element. Nothing in all her years of education had prepared her for the heavy Southern dialect she encountered there. I'm glad she persevered as she was one of my favorite teachers.
Joe Nunes Posted December 11, 2022 Posted December 11, 2022 When I first met my wife back in 1968 her West Virginia accent was very intriguing to a young man from Michigan. Today, we are both retired and have resided here in Up North Michigan since 1998. She has lost all of her WV accent now and this is very noticeable when Joyce and her three sisters, who still live in WV, get together. We have lived in a number of different locations within the States with respect to our careers and I have always enjoyed the various accents heard from the local folks... and the fact that if one remains in the area long enough he/she will probably hear the new accent develop in their own voice over time. Joe

I dunno! My wife's grandmother came to the US from Ireland when she was 15. She lived in Brooklyn most of her life and died in her 90s. She still had her brogue like she had just come down the ship gangplank!
