LOCKLAND, Ohio — your tax dollars at work!

A Lockland man accused of painting potholes in his neighborhood to warn drivers was found not guilty after a jury trial on Tuesday.

Gregory Strole, a 66-year-old retired volunteer Lockland firefighter, was charged with criminal mischief after allegedly spray painting potholes to warn drivers.  Lockland fire chief and village administrator Doug Wehmeyer said Strole had been doing the same thing for years and that the most recent incident was the final straw for city officials.  Wehmeyer said the case escalating to a jury trial was Strole's idea.

On Tuesday, jurors found Strole not guilty of criminal mischief after deliberating for much of the afternoon.

There was no debate in the courtroom over whether or not Strole painted the potholes. Rather, both sides argued the purpose behind it.  The prosecution argued that Strole knowingly broke the law and did not follow proper procedure. The defense argued that Strole was doing his civic duty and tried to warn other drivers.  Strole took the stand in the trial on Tuesday, telling the eight-member jury that he wanted to help drivers avoid costly repairs.  Police chief Michael Ott also took the stand and said some of the potholes in question had been fixed, but not all of them (almost year later).

After the trial ended, Strole spoke with WLWT about how he was feeling once the verdict was read.  "I feel great that maybe they'll learn something from this," Strole said. "Maybe they'll take it and do what they're supposed to. Then they wouldn't have to spend all this money bringing me to trial."

Like this guy. The city is the one that should be on trial for not taking action on the potholes.

Love the pothole story! Years ago when I worked in Pearl River, NY, my company sponsored a 5k race. I wound up running the day.   The race was run through the town and neighborhoods.  One task was to paint arrows along the course, especially at the turns.

So here I am out there with yellow road spray paint.  I'm feeling awful illegal as I paint, expecting someone to stop me.  A few people in the neighborhood noticed me and I expected to get yelled at.  Instead, they were asking when the race was.

Then there was a town police car behind me with the lights on.  I thought I was in trouble so I walked back to the car.  The cop said he was going to shadow me the rest of the route so I didn't get hit by a car!    Quite an experience.

I did check after the first year's race and saw that the yellow washed away in a week or two. No harm, no foul.

10 inches of snow so far today.

When I was up with the dog at 2am, it wasn't snowing yet.

And it's still coming down.

Highways are a mess.

But I'm one of those oddballs that likes snow. Took the pup out for a walk at the lake so she can bounce in the snow. She likes burying her face in snow for some reason.

And then of course, get home and it's a hot chocolate with Baileys. :)

Been a good day. Even though I've had to shovel twice.

Had a Lab that would do the same thing in the snow. I share you love of a warm toddy.

Kinda friendamine came by the shop where I'm finishing up the DeLorean. He's a younger guy, the best regular employee the shop had, but he left when they failed to financially appreciate his ability and conscientiousness...all the while whining about not being able to get good mechanics. Well fellas, the good ones don't work cheap forever.

He went to work for a big-name custom car shop here, but got burned out there too for much the same reason.

Now he's working at Lockheed doing F-35 assembly, good pay, great benefits, on track to move up and get his A&P license too.

Smart kid, interesting to talk to, and it was good seeing him.

Got up for my son and my regular three week Saturday 7:30 am appointment. We went out for breakfast, and had a nice day with the family.

First layer of snow fell last night. Supposed to be sunny and 3 above today so it’s gonna melt but hey at least it’s begun.

Cool. One thing I've really missed living in the "sunny South" is snow. We typically get one or two snowfalls every year, sometimes a little more, sometimes less.

Place I'm moving to in AZ is high desert and also usually gets one good snow every year that melts pretty quick, but the mountains just a few miles away stay white for most of the winter and have a lodge/restaurant/rental cottages/snow hiking. Just takes 4WD or chains to get there.  :D

I mean I just hope this winter is like they used to be- so much snow some trees fall under the weight; but last year there was grass on Christmas. Got my G2 driver’s licence on January 2nd with clear roads and barely any snow, which really was a blessing but still I like my snowy winter. Didn’t even fire up the 1996 Arctic Cat last year.

I used to have to chase the snow blower around the driveway a few times every winter. We downsized and we have maintenance provided. They're so quiet that they don't even wake us up in the morning and they clean the walks and the front stoup. Ran into the couple that bought our old snow blower at the market in the spring after we sold the old house. He had been dragging his feet about buying it since he was young and thought nothing of shoveling a couple of feet of snow by hand. He and his wife thanked us profusely after we had had one of the larger snows in a long time that winter.

I had the perfect day for launching rockets, no wind.  I launched several, the ones I built in 1977 and a few years later survived, the two new ones got wrecked, but good excuse to build better versions.
This 1:19 scale V-2, my dad took me to the factory in Penrose CO in 1976, got this and a few other kits.  Dad wanted it painted like the White Sands test, from a magazine illustration.  7th flight.

This one is built with a food can.  Crashed second flight.

Maybe I should start a new thread?  Anyone else ever do model rockets?

Yes, A thread just for Rocketry would be cool. I've been wanting to try it for years.

Um, yes. My dad designed to production process for the Titan III solid rocket boosters. I've never made my own motors, but have launched plenty of Estes, and more than a few Aerotech powered rockets. My kids all built and flew rockets, and now my grandson is flying rockets on occasion.

Been Raining here since 4am. Gutters beginning to overflow.

But, we need the rain.

Just not happy about spending all day shopping for Thursday in the rain.

My Temp job working for the Kern County Elections Division, counting ballets ended  yesterday.

I worked from Sept 16 to Nov 25. Pretty good run.

Now back to the job hunt.

I haven't been around for much of the month thanks to my job. School runs, sports charters and field trips have kept both my school bus and I busy. Thankfully, it all ended last week. I'm beat but my bank account has gotten a whole lot fatter.

First time in something like 5 years I've had a vehicle with fully functioning heat and defrost.

Whoopeeeeee !!!!!!!!  (I'm a man of simple pleasures  ;))

EDIT: The ECU that runs the HVAC in the GMC has been fritzing for years, working only when it felt like it...increasingly rarely...and finally quit altogether in 2021 or 2.

I was driving home yesterday, and saw a small yard sale.I wasn’t going to stop,I was tired and wanted to get home and eat dinner. But this little voice told me to stop, and check it out. So I turned around and pulled in.There’s was mostly useless garbage. But then I saw it.Three huge boxes of model car magazines SAE,Model Cars. And stacks of Model Car,Truck, and Motorcycle. Its a UK magazine, but it’s filled with some great articles a reference pictures.I then asked the guy how much for a few.Well that’s when he told me he was packing up and shutting down the yard sale. Before I got another chance to ask him how much,he said to just take all the boxes for free.He just wanted to get rid of everything.I just thought, what a score.I Thanked the gentleman, and loaded up my car with Like I said, three huge boxes filled with some great  magazines.Enough to keep me busy while I’m sitting on the throne for weeks.🤣🚽👍IMG_6306.thumb.jpeg.beb3beb2d72717289278299a4d8d8838.jpeg
