Very sad news, I'm about to order some stuff from them, Nice that they have they gave us a 2 year warning. Hopefully someone takes it over, but that hasn't worked well for other resin casters in the past

Everyone is entitled to a retirement. My best wishes to Don and Carol in theirs. This does lead me to ask the inevitable since the days of fine resin from The Modelhaus are numbered: Who makes the second best resin model parts out there?

Posted

Kudos to Don and Carol for the work they've done for all these years! There are some great casters out there, but no one provides what Modelhaus does. I've bought many kits and builts over the years and it's always been a given that any missing parts could be replaced with ones from Don. That service will be hard to replace, not to mention all the unique kits they produce. It's great that they're giving two years notice. It shows the kind of people they are. I wouldn't be surprised if they get a ton of orders.

The thought of them not being there has never occurred to me. They're such a fundamental and deeply rooted figure in the modern modeling hobby that they seemed immortal. I hope their business has enough value that another high quality, knowledgeable and reputable caster will buy it from them and let Don and Carol walk away feeling good.

I just had a funny thought.... with this announcement they are going to get an enormous onslaught of orders! Maybe more work than they can get done in two years!

After 35 years doing this, I only find it fair that they want to enjoy their retirement. I have never ordered from them but from what I hear around here, their quality is great. Might have to do some last minute shopping.

Very big shoes to fill. High quality products with high quality service will not be easy to reproduce.

Congrats on the retirement, though!!!! 35 years is plenty.

I'm not real sure I've ever seen any of their products. As someone who has but recently reentered the model car scene, I tend to go with whatever is in the box.

To put it simple, they are among the best.

I got some of the resinkits they got aswell as parts and the casting is incredibly nice.

I placed an order with them a month ago, and I also heard that their son might (?) be taking over the business, and Don would continue cast tires sort of like a semi-retirement job. We'll see, as I from what I just said is just rumors now. We'll have to see how things pan out.

I kinda think that if Don & Carol get "swamped" with orders, they might just close the doors at anytime because the workload would be more than they can handle.

From what I understand, they've been working an average of about 60 hours a week at their business (Don, Carol and their son) and after years of doing that I'm sure they need a break. None of us are getting any younger, them included, and I'm sure they'd like some time to sit back and enjoy life in their "golden years" without dealing with resin chemicals and stuff and the pressures of running their business.

I, among many others, have bought many of their excellent, top-notch castings, and will also have to place a "stock up" order within the 2 year time frame.

I wish the Holthaus family the very best of health and a long life to enjoy the fruits of their labors in their retirement years. I also thank them profusely for their excellent products and service over all these years.

All of us hate to lose a good modeling resource. However, 35 years producing quality aftermarket parts has to be hard to maintain. So I appreciate that they are ready to retire. With any luck at all, they can make an arrangement with someone who can take over, and keep up the same quality that we have become used to.

Very good people to deal with and their product is second to none..Best there is..I hope they enjoy their retirement and the so called golden years..I don't imaging they became extremely rich people dealing in their business. They worked hard and are going to enjoy the benifits..Good luck Don and Carol

Sad news indeed, but I believe that they deserve the retirement as they make the best resin parts in the States. I'm not that much worried about those resin kits, but mostly I'm afraid of what happens to those replacement parts for old kits... They can't be found from other places! Looks like I will have to save my dimes to place an order. I need some of those replacement parts and a '59 Chevy Pickup cab. B)

I hope someone takes the challenge and buys Modelhaus so the products may continue but I suspect that the buy in price may be rather high.

I'm sad to hear this but at the same time I'm glad for Don and Carol! Yeah, 35 years in this biz is a very long time, and they will have some very big shoes to fill for sure.

Guess I better order that '76 Caddy Coupe De Ville I've had my eye on before too long huh?? ;)
