AMT68 Posted March 15, 2022 Posted March 15, 2022 This was built from a mid 90's reissue of what was originally the Monogram Malibu SS454 in 1/24 scale and molded in blue. Painted in Dupli-Color Bordeaux Red (Honda color) and cleared with Rust-Oleum Lacquer (green label can with highchair). I chose this color since it reminded me of the less commonly seen factory color Black Cherry. Trimmed off the rear quarter glass for the rolled down window look and highlighted the raised letter tires with an 05 Gelly Roll pen. As with my most recent build of this model I used a water based acrylic (Deco Art Americana) for the blacked out grill sections. I'm finding it produces a more even color than I've gotten in the past with hobby enamel flats. For blackwashed grill applications I would still tend to stick with thinned enamel. I included a mix of indoor and outdoor images. And lastly, I inadvertently ran the clear heavier on this one. While I was able to pick out the majority of the exterior detail (and more aggressively wet sand the finish) the "Chevelle" emblem on the trunk (which is lightly scripted) was left undone as were the rear marker lights. As much as I try I'll never get them perfect.....ugghh. 5
bisc63 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 What a perfect color for the Chevelle! Great looking build, clean and realistic appurtenance. Well done.
happy grumpy Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Wow. that red certainly pops in the sunlight. I always liked these old monogram kits. The interior makes for a nice contrast.
ea0863 Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Throw some cherry bombs on the exhaust, and I'm right back to the 70's. Fantastic work!
Spottedlaurel Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Very nice, that colour really comes to life in the sunlight. Suits it well. I'm with you on never getting any build quite right, there's always next time.......
Zippi Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Very sharp looking Chevelle. That color pops against the white interior. Nice job on the white letters on the tires. Great looking model.
geemoney Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Bravo! my FAVORITE Chevelle! Id like a green 70 LS-6 Convertible please
TransAmMike Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Thats just beautiful Tom. The Monogram kit is sooo much better than the AMT version I built. Great work, and the color,,,,wow.?
Mattilacken Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Beautiful build! Have one built and an other in the stash waiting ?
espo Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I agree with everyone else on the body color. This color shows the body line well. Nice clean trim, and the interior looks so right with the red dash and rear package trey.

Thank you Phillipe, Bill, Gareth, Larry, Craig and Bill. I considered doing an all red interior. I like the Dupli-Color lacquers but at times it can be tricky to get the metallic particles to look even. Which is why I find it important to spray the clear lightly on the first few coats.
