Finally finished this one. Inspired by the Wes Collin's Roadster that is being recreated by Mark Skipper in Fresno, I wanted to do a 34 Ford as an early Kustom. I didn't feel like turning the car into a roadster, I don't think I have the skill to pull it off, so I built the Cabriolet version. This is the 1962 issue of the 34 Ford Coupe/Cabriolet. I highly recommend picking one up if you can find one under $100. Many cool parts.

Mods and Parts:

Chopped top, 36 Ford Headlights, 41 Lincoln Bumpers and steering wheel, scratch built skirts, smoothed gas tank cover with frenched license plate. Sombrero Caps are from the Revell 49 Mercury kit. Paint is Tamiya Pearl Light Red (TS59 I think). Engine is from the revell 40 Ford kits, with pulleys, generator and upper radiator hoses from the Revell 32 Sedan kit. Front suspension is the Revell 30 Model A, rear end is box stock banjo with a heavily modified crossmember to get it low in the rear. Dash has a 40 Ford deluxe gauge cluster in the 34 dash.

It doesn't have quite the swoopy look as the real life roadster with duvall windshield (see link above). But nevertheless it looks the part of a late 40's early 50's Kustom. Some of you may say I should have painted the running boards white, but white running boards were a late 50's-60's thing, so it wouldn't have been correct.

This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, Dan! It’s everything a late 1940’s mild custom should be. Killer color choice.

I have one of these kits in complete, mint condition that I intend to build. It’s the “how I’m gonna build it” that I’m stuck on.

Thanks Dennis! There are endless possibilities with this kit. I’m sure whatever you decide it’ll be awesome!

Here's a link to a more in depth video of the build. I started a YouTube channel, focusing on building cars, models and 1:1.

Very nicely done. Great stance, and the wheel covers are the cherry on top. I especially dig the Lincoln bumpers

Its so nice when a modeller hands you the recipe for a car that has not spoken to you yet!  I have a partly built version of this kit that I last worked on in 1982 - suddenly I have a vision.  Thanks for sharing your beautiful model.

Cheers

Alan
