Revell 1969 Mustang Boss 302............My take with pics!
mk11 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I would tend to agree with Stu regarding the proportionality of the revell body; it's always looked kinda pudgy, a little thick through the middle to me. You've nailed it, Rich. There's definitely a slight upward slope toward the middle but not as severe as the one designed into the monogram 1/10 master and passed on to all the succeeding variants. Bill's pics show part of the rest of the hot mess made of the front fenders. These views shows how they splay outwards, adding to the wonky look. The fender lines actually have a more gentle curve into the front. A little careful sanding will probably reduce the worst of this flaw. -

The scale issue may make a slight difference, but the '69/'70 fenders are the same front profile in 1:1. The headlight doors bolt up to either one. mike -

I guess you can't blame revell for not blowing a lot of money on the modifications to make this kit look better. Thanks, Raoul, for the confirmation of what I'd suspected looking at Bill's pics. Unfortunately that means most of the original flaws are still present, including the quarter window revell top, amt middle, mpc bottom mike -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take

The flawed fenders were harder to see with the '70 design. I'm hoping the correction went beyond just the headlight areas. Wonder if they maybe just did a quickie fix like this....

Looks like maybe amt tooled up just the 500 and not the XLdoor panels... edit- upon closer reading of the brochure, it looks an upgrade option on the XL interior to the LTD style panels with the flow-through ventilation.

The 1:1 240/300s are identical in outward appearance anyways so you can pretend the moeb resin caster sourced six is either one 302s are also a valid engine for the F100/150 from mid-year '69 into the nineties. mike

More info here... The 360/390 was replaced in the trucks in '77 by the 351M/400 engine. Good representatives can be found in the amt '78 bronco kit as well as the ubiquitous nascar t-birds. Decent reps of the real 429/460 can be found in the revell torinos and amt 69/70 galaxies. The 240/300 six would be usable for most all '65-'79 trucks. There is now currently available a regular wheelbase longbox from MAD resin. For reasons now obscure, the amt kits all represent the extended wheelbase F350 super camper special. mike

Your favourite Box art
mk11 replied to HotRodaSaurus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great art ! You can almost feel the thunder of that 421. The custom pic brings another of my favorites to mind... always loved the '50s/'60s industrial art, as well as a lot of the mcm architecture. -
… and I try to get one last tour on the old stx38 before the snow hits to chop them up so they break down easier. Why waste all those good nutrients? mike

Moebius Ford Truck Frame Differences
mk11 replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I only had a short frame handy for the pic but you can see that the rails in the front half are near identical with slight differences in the crossmembers. The front suspension crossmember for the 4x4 has higher shock mounts. -

I'm sure they'll be very close, Mike. I'll have a side by side pic for you tomorrow. mike -

Ford Y-Block V8 "Fase II"
mk11 replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here's one in a '75 (south American market) F100. Gorgeous truck from the Pastore Collection in Brazil. -
X2! Hope revell actually took the time to get this one right. A line drawn across at the bottom of the headlights touches them all equally.

If you're really ambitious to build the '68-'72 F600, the old R&R resin '72' will supply a reasonable but not totally accurate cab to swap in behind the M/L front fenders. And if you're really, really ambitious, you could use the moeb F100 cab. However, with the upper roof structure so noticeably out of proportion, you'll have to use the amt cab roof/windshield/cowl to correct it Good luck! mike

Possibly the main reason for good sales of this subject... For some reason, I find absolutely no connection or nostalgic draw between this representation and the images formed in my mind from years of reading and re-reading the old hot rod mags and attending car shows. Good thing for the forum discussions that help one look beyond the hideous color and mickey mouse headlights. Yes, I ended up with a couple mike
