  1. Current issue AMT '66 Fairlane chassis should fill the bill, once you shorten the wheelbase a scale five inches from 116" to 111", and shorten the rear to fit (I can get to that measurement later unless someone beats me to it).
  2. He was survived by his toupee.
  3. Was this chassis fit always a problem with the MPC '72 GTO? Or could a defective run have slipped out (maybe with a Grand Prix chassis) and was remaindered instead of recalled (like Revell's wrong-body '57 Chevy)?
  4. Once again, caught them other cats napping: Nearly complete '62 Chrysler with some duplicate bits; looks like a mix of original and reissue, but most importantly: Original issue interior . Been after one for a long time! Can't believe there were no other bids at $19.99. Needs a rear bumper and maybe headlights but those are easier to get.
  5. Another beauty, Jean-Philippe! So nice to see one of Pedro's resins so well finished. I imagine he used the roof from the AMT '62 Buick Electra. Will you be doing a '60 or '61 next?
  6. Pretty much correct except that the serial is 44-83785, not 44-85591 - there was a paperwork snafu when the plane was sold in the early '60s.
  7. So sorry to hear this. When my uncle and I visited the Collings planes on tour here in August, I got to crawl through Nine-O-Nine for what would be the last time. This was supposed to be the plane's last season before going in for some major maintenance; the Foundation had purchased another B-17 - this one with a CIA history, which also appeared in the Bond movie Thunderball - and were hoping to bring it online in the beginning of next year.
  8. I liked "Ventura Highway" much better, especially when I was driving on a nice open stretch of it.
  9. Well, somebody finally came out with a diecast of my first car, in the correct color: And, let's face it, in the only scale anybody else would buy it: HO. Thank goodness for model railroaders. (G-scale would be nice - just sayin' ) I like the '70s-era Coke machines, but the ones they show look like they have walnut-grain fake wood front panels - which aren't on the decal sheet... ETA: Couldn't find an exact match; this came close. That's a fake wood panel, all right:
  10. Sent my '66 Fairlane promo bumpers out today with a check.
  11. Yes, like trafficking.
  12. This is from a current eBay listing for a resin '59 Pontiac wagon; a bit crude but might offer some details to copy when you build yours:
  13. Ouch. I was eyeing one of those at DuPage ; now I'm glad I passed.
  14. So stand back when you hand it to him.
  15. Just got back from the DuPage show; picked up mostly parts - some glass trees with headlight lenses, a couple aftermarket-style air cleaners, pre-wired distributors and a couple Fireball Motorworks Chevy Q-jet carbs. I also got another nice clean AMT Craftsman '57 T-bird; molded in light blue and to my surprise thoroughly stuck together with about a tablespoon of silicone . This was taken after I cleaned all that stuff out and added a Craftsman top from my stash, then cleaned up the flash and mold lines, and made a bunch of little trims here and there to get the top to sit more or less correctly. A fun afternoon's work!
  16. Yes, but... ITC made a '51 convertible in the early '60s with awful body proportions; however the grille, bumpers, dash, and taillight trim pieces are salvageable. Modelhaus made a couple '51s and a conversion kit, but they're tough to find now. Any others from the brain trust here?
  17. The Deluxe emblem and V8 badge on the front fender were '51-only items, along with the chrome spears on the rear quarters extending to the taillights. Also the '51 Deluxe (base model) had no side trim; all '49s, '50s and '51 Customs had it. Brochure page from the Old Car Manual Project:
  18. I've done it on a few of mine; not easy but not impossible. A few certain FoMoCos with scooped-out areas below the handle have been an extra challenge to smooth out ('61 Ford and '62 Mercury in particular).
  19. One thing that hasn't been pointed out: the car in this picture is a '51 Ford Deluxe Tudor Sedan - if this was taken in 1950 it would have been late in the year at least.
