Hope the folks at Greenlight are listening - a '70s Country Squire would seem to be right up their alley, and if they did it with the quality of their Dodge Monaco or the two trailers, you could leave it as is or detail it out. How much cheaper is it to produce a good (Greenlight quality) 1/25 diecast as opposed to a 1/25 plastic kit?

Fun with the new vacuum food sealer; flash pickling.
ChrisBcritter replied to LDO's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I picked up a Reynolds vacuum sealer a few months ago and I'm experimenting with using a small Tupperware container as a mini-vacuum chamber for getting bubbles out of freshly-poured resin parts. I've had some success, at least, considering the valve is a pinhole in the lid sealed with duct tape. Maybe I'll try that FoodSaver container next, if they're cheap. -
I shot this restored Texaco station in 2006 (out the back window of a speeding car; the driver was in a hurry); only thing is I'm not sure exactly where. Best I can recall is it was south of Chattanooga in the NW tip of Georgia or maybe the NE tip of Alabama: This little Texaco station in Paducah, KY has been restored as an office: And this one (same town) hasn't been, yet: I used to pass by this house in Baldwin Park, CA a lot and I think it must have been a gas station at some point: And finally Ronnie's Automotive Service, the old station at 2012 N. Lake Ave. in Altadena, CA as it looked in 1983: Featuring my beloved old '62 Imperial (that's where the avatar comes from).

1968 Shelby Green Hornet-----Update! 8/4/18
ChrisBcritter replied to MrObsessive's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Bill, let me try a little experiment: I'm finally at the point where I can paint the chassis, and do the slight overspray of the Green Hornets color. Rustoleum Red Oxide Primer was used, and while it's not exactly like the 1:1, I used this as more than likely, this is how the original California Special (which this car was originally) would have rolled off the line back in '68. The color I'll be using will end up being a custom mix of green, black, and some gold pearl powder that I've had for quite some time. In this case, I used Testor enamels airbrushed to do this overspray. When it comes time to paint the body, I'm going to hunt down a can of Krylon Hunter Green with the gold powder mixed in. For the topcoat, I'll be using a sort of green dye mixed in clear to give the metallic some depth, so you're not seeing gold flakes sitting on top of paint. A little experimentation will go a long way, so I'll be trying this concoction out on a junk body. I don't want ANY surprises when I get to this point! * * * * * * * * Seems to work? Maybe to be on the safe side, try writing your captions as a Word doc, and then copy-and-paste as plain text here so you don't lose the work if the forum barfs up again. -

Also good if you want to build "Jill": Although per the script, they're Goodyear E78-14s, but good luck finding those in 1/25. -

I'd use wheels/sombreros/tires from the Revell custom Merc, or Caddy wires from a Welly diecast Eldo. -

ChrisBcritter replied to 03Marauderman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
There's just a handful of cars on which this will work; the '57-'59 Ford Fairlane 500 and Galaxie, '58 Edsel Pacer/Ranger, and '62-'63 Galaxie (only the notchback promo hardtop in '63) all used the same roof for sedans and hardtops. Same with the '57-'58 Buick Special/Century and '57-'58 Olds. IIRC, the senior series '55-'56 Mercury pillared sedans used the Ford/Mercury two-door hardtop roof. -

Looks like a "lost" Danbury Mint model - beautiful job! -
OK, I measured the wheelbase and it comes out to right around 87mm, which is sure close to 1/25 scale (the real car has an 87" wheelbase). These cars were tiny...

Don't feel bad, Snake - the only thing from my list that's finished is the '64 Caddy vert promo. The '62 Impala has been painted and cleared (it's been curing about 6 months). The '64 Coupe deVille has progressed - bodywork done, painted, cleared and the vinyl roof done (thanks to Tom P. for doing the paint and roof - I'm watching and learning) and the interior converted from bucket seat convertible to bench seat coupe standard. And of course I've added several more projects since...

I admit to speculating on these kits 35-40 years ago when the rumor surfaced that the plant or their warehouse had burned down and they were out of business; eventually I sold about a dozen USA Oldies kits for a nice profit and kept a few to build. Hope someday someone will repop the correct interiors for the '62 Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth in resin. -
The Lake Michigan Model Car Club had an auction at this month's meeting yesterday; I picked up some lonely orphans: The Lindberg Vettes (two in the box) are missing body sides and wheels, so if anyone needs what's left, shoot me a PM. I think the '48 Ford is first issue; it comes with its own display case. The Premier Ford Anglia 100E (or as they labeled it, "English Ford") is all there; now to start fixing all the mistakes on the wheel and window openings and find some interesting way to finish it (Gasser is a bit obvious...). Also need to do some measuring and figure out how close to 1/25 scale it really is.

VERY cool! Never thought I'd say that about a garbage truck !

I wouldn't mind seeing it come back, as it was a nicely engineered kit to begin with. The only real issue it has is the frame molded into the floor/fenders, but that obviously didn't stop Tim and Dennis from doing some sharp work on theirs! I have one unbuilt that I'm undecided whether to build stock (including the over-restored chrome wire wheels) or fifties street rod (steelies, rubber rake, early V-8, done). Hope Round2 can do something with what's left. ETA: And kudos to Tim for using my license plates.
