AMT Chevrolet 454 SS
mustang1989 replied to mustang1989's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks Bill. A couple of areas that I did address with this kit was 1.) the elimination of the molded in accelerator and brake foot pedals and 2.) Cutting the one piece glass into two separate pieces and adding sun visors, and adding a shift lever, turn signal and tilt lever and ignition switch and keys to the steering column. The addition of PE pedals that were swung from under the dash was a really big help to the interior IMO. -
These trucks have always been an interest of mine as they were a sleek looking truck with an out with an "in your face" and bold appearance. Although not fast by any means with 230 horsepower, they were aggressive looking, were among the fastest O.E.M. trucks out there at the time and they set the stage for the muscle trucks that followed in the years to come. It took me around 5 months to complete this one with most of the challenges being paint and the ending assembly of installing the body onto the frame. With a few pitfalls to work around it was a good kit to work with overall.

You've got that right about kit price Bill. Mine cost in the $50 ish range used and ended up not having the bumpers or grill in the kit. -

Dammit boy! That does look good! Very nice job on this one. I'm building one as well (which will be in the Under Glass Section within the week) and the only big thing I didn't like about this kit was that the exhaust tail pipes needed tweeking a bit to get them closer to the body instead of hanging down a bit. Great work on this Tyrone. -

You did a good job putting this one together JC. I hear what you're saying on a simple build. Lots of times it's difficult to stay focused with a really entailed build. Great work here buddy. -
Well guys...………...I had more done on this thing than I thought. the only real setback was that the exhaust tailpipes hung down too low. I had to break out the mini torch and carefully shield all the surrounding chassis and apply a little heat to it to tuck it back up where it belonged. The ending steps are a bit finicky with the front bumper being sandwiched between the body and the chassis but I've now got that done. I still need to re-paint the tail gate and install the upper radiator hose, side rear view mirrors and do some last minute clean up, polishing and a couple of other things but this one's almost there.... …………..and completed engine bay.

Haven't seen this one till now but you can bet that I'll be following this one from here on out. Great work as usual JC! -
Got the gloss coat on. Here in the photos this is about 6 hours after application so this is already nice n' dry to touch. It'll be another 3-4 days till I bring all of this out of the drying booth. I'm really stoked about how this finish is going to look on the completed build.I was pretty happy to make out the bulb letters in the middle of the light reflection on the body :

Thanks Tom. There's some issues along the way but it's a decent kit. Thank you Jeremy. I'd love to get ahold of a 1:1 version for a decent price. Probably not gonna happen but'd be nice. Thanks John. I've gotta watch how carried away I do get with the details. Builds take long enough these days and details add a lot of time to them.
