Aaaand moving on to the model itself. That's a great job on the MPC version of this car Eric and is probably one of the best replications I've seen with that kit.
-
Lookin' forward to it. I do like the Molotow and all but I'm not much of a fan of the 48 hour cureout times. lol
-
Thanks fellas! I'm in Texas Roger so that's a bit out of reach for me. I do plan on being at the Austin show in October though. Got the dash pretty much finished up folks. I'm gonna have to order a set of floor mats to top everything off for the interior but aside from that......we'll be moving on to the chassis as far as build up and proper set up goes now.....

Paint looks great so far despite the blemish down low. Most certainly recoverable though. Daniel's got a great idea for that screen you were talking about.
-
I hear you on those mold lines right in the middle of the bumpers. Jeez....why did they bother chroming them?? Your progress is looking great so far and am looking forward to the recovery efforts with the paint. Glad you were able to find the color you needed.

Good looking paint work James. Sorry about the seat belt decals getting lost against the black seats but the overall interior looks great man.

This came out swell JR! Love the Impala hubcaps on it too. Great color and fantastic overall look!
-
That may be about the Fiero wheels versus the ones you tried out here but DUDE........that changed the whole look of an already good looking build for the better. WOW!! I like what you did with the tail lights on this. Coming along very well and I love the color.

Thanks fellas. I’m having a pretty fun time with this interior. At first I didn’t think I was gonna be able to do much with it but opportunities kept presenting themselves. Lol. I hear ya Roger. Just couldn’t go with a decal for a radio and couldn’t find an 8 track player so I modernized it a little bit.

Thanks JC. Could be a Joe Satriani CD?? lol I've gotta thank a good friend of mine for helping me out on the battery compartment cover. At first I thought it was removable but he provided me pictures of his car showing that the access cover is actually hinged. I used a strip of thin paper for the hinge plate and used some screw heads from The Model Car Garage to replicate the hinge to panel retaining screws as well as the nut and screw at and near the latch assembly (which was fabricated from a leftover PE fret) and PRESTO....a hinged access panel. I also fabricated that park brake handle with a needle that I cut to length and slide some small gauge black wire insulation over.

My take on the most famous ‘55 gasser street machine’…
mustang1989 replied to OldNYJim's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Your work here is nothing short of amazing Jim. Those 3D printed bellhousings and transmissions look great as does the start on the engine. On that starter motor, rotating that bad boy 180 degrees will put that starter solenoid on top where they normally reside. Love your work man. Just beautiful so far. -
That stance coupled with the wheel/ tire combo is looking great bud. I don't blame you for not touching the paint job till later on either. It'd be a shame to get fingerprints in that paint work at this point in the build.
-
Bring it. I'll be watchin' this.
-
I like all the details that you're putting into this build. The wheel/ tire combo aren't necessarily my cup of tea but hey....the build's not done yet and I'll be looking forward to seeing how they "click" with this car as the build goes on. Looking forward to more.

I've seen this one elsewhere but didn't see it here until now. I'll be watching this one Marcos!!

I managed to get the radio/ CD player (anybody remember those?) installed and put a CD left ready to fully insert into the player in there as well. I didn't like the usage of a 2D decal for an OEM radio so I went with a PE offering from my PE stash.
-
Thanks for the encouraging comments fellas. Gil: I'm going to be using that on this build here and hopefully that'll take care of the spider webbing effect I've been getting while using this paint. Alright guys, Got the dash primed and then shot with a coat of semi gloss black. After that I painted, detailed and installed the CORVETTE emblem in the middle of the dash. Then I went to work on cutting the decals from the sheet and put those on some black Evergreen stock I cut out. The speedometer is installed and I've got the backing for the tachometer in the foreground. Frickin' "macro" mode makes the center gauge pack look like a hack job but it's not like this when looking at it in person. Here's the results of cutting each gauge out and adhering it to the backing. The backing was then adhered to the backside of the dash. Completed gauges.....now installed.

Man this is just some INSANE work going on with this car Jim. Un.....frickin' .....believable!! -
Any more on this one Kit?

That's a good take on the tail lights Atin. I've used BMF Chrome for tail lights in the past with some Clear Red over that and it seemed to work out pretty well. Looking forward to seeing the details on that dash. One thing that I do on gauges is to drill the gauges out and put the decals onto a placard from the rear of the IP. Here's my 1970 Camaro dash to illustrate my point. It adds just that layer of added depth to the panel.

For most of us I'd say that a small amount of "trash" floating in the air is normal. If you're like me, you've got an average to slightly less than ideal/ perfect painting environment. I'll usually get that one "floater" that winds up in my paint work. In that case, wet sanding and polishing are my best friends. This is looking great so far Bob.

I'll be using this technique with my hose clamps from here on out. Thanks for that tip Steve.
