This is my first real out of box build. I had been working on a Pro Stock Maverick for around 5 months and needed a break from it to just get something completed. I've been wanting to build this car for the last few years and figured that now might be a good time to break it out. There's not much in the way of AM for this kit so it was the perfect one to do an OOB build on. The only things that were added was an "AC Delco" decal on the oil filter, a Hot Rod Magazine in the passengers from seat with a picture of an older T/A on the cover and I robbed the dual outlet exhaust pipes from the Revell 2000 Camaro SS kit. Just couldn't build this car with the single outlet exhaust system like it came from the factory with. The kit wasn't too bad but there were several fit issues with it starting with the chassis to body assembly. For some reason the glue adhesion didn't set up right at the rear of the car resulting in a slight twist. I made some bracing that went from the body down to the chassis and glued that in place to suck the chassis up on the side that got the lower part of the twist. Flash and mold lines were TERRIBLE on this thing. I spent ALOT of time getting rid of those and still didn't get them all. The front and rear facias fit great during the test fit and didn't want to cooperate at all during the assembly process. I got them as close as I could without disassembling the whole friggin' car to straighten everything out. Once I got the chassis sucked up in the back on the drivers side to where it was supposed to be I noticed that now there was a gap between the engine throttle body and the molded in intake duct on the body. I ended up cutting a piece of plastic and carving it to fit the gap there. The only other thing that I did with this car that needed to be done was that I lowered it about a scale inch or so all the way around to give it a more aggressive stance. Anyways....here are the finished shots...….and now....back to the Maverick!!!

Let me know if you found anything Mike. This is going to be my last update before I post the finished pics. I've just got some work to do on the dual outlet tail pipes that I robbed from the Revell 2000 Camaro SS kit. There are still a few touch ups and minor details to take care of but she's all but done now. I'm just glad I chose to lower this one some. I hate to think of how high up it would've sat if I didn't.

No worries Andre. I found it.
-
That turned out very good Andre. I've done the bare red plastic "paint job" before as well. As long as there are no blemishes ( which I see none of here with this build) they turn out awesome. Great job dude.

Going there now. Really enjoyed following along with this one Andre.

Over the friggin' top as usual with this build. I hear what you guys are saying about the cancelled shows this year. Really sucks too. I guess that's how the cookie crumbles though. Better luck next year. -
Been out of pocket for just a wee bit and just look at all the stuff I've been missing. WOW!!!

Looking forward to seeing this one being built. -
Hello, Mike from Tennessee

Thought I'd take the opportunity to properly greet you on the forum Mike. Welcome to the forum bud. -
This is the kit that has the correct exhaust if you want to purchase a kit for it. I thought of making my own dual outlet pipe but wanted to keep it simple with this build.
-
Yes. But check THIS out. Here's a listing for a rebuilder glue bomb Camaro with a dual outlet exhaust on ebay. True it is a POS build but it has the exhaust you are looking for. It fits right in place of the single outlet and with a little sanding, drilling and some aluminized paint you'll be all set. Glad to see you found one Mike. I'm sure you'll do 'er proud.

Looking forward to seeing your take on this build Dann! No problem Mike. Did you ever find anything?
-
Oh HELL yeah!!! Glad to see you back on this one Dann!

It's a bit out of the ordinary in looking for one of these. One would think that you'd look for 1998 Trans Am but instead you have to search for 1998 Firebird Ram Air. Weird ….but they start showing up when you use that. I got REALLY lucky, I got this one given to me by BigTallDad for free. Here are several on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=1%2F25+revell+1998+firebird+ram+air&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=0&_odkw=revell+1998+firebird+ram+air+

Thanks for chiming in Mike. I didn't know about this kit either. Here's the kit:

Thanks Randy. This one has been a mostly relaxing build. The one thing that needs to be paid close attention to is the chassis to body fit. All kinds of stuff to line up and get right. Throttle body to air intake duct and then the proper alignment of the front and rear of the chassis to not only facilitate the installation of the front and rear facia but also the rear of the chassis has a tendency to be offset from one side to the other resulting in a slight twist of the frame. I'm having to make some corrections back there now to establish equal tire to wheel opening clearances for both sides. Really frustrating after getting this far into the build but I'll get past it.
-
Thanks for the very kind comments Francis. Thanks Carl. 'Preciate it man. Thanks Chris. I drove more than my fair share of these cars when they were new. Awesome rides.
-
Nice touches throughout on this one. Those wheels are crazy! A few years back when I worked in the dealership a fella came in with a Caddy with these kinds of wheels on it asking for a tire rotation. You just wouldn't believe how friggin' heavy those wheels are. True back breakers.

Impressive work. VERY impressive.

I've been working really hard on getting this car completed so I can get back on the Maverick. Still a ways to go with all the last minute little stuff and just making sure that it all comes together as well as possible. Body is pretty much done. Still gotta add the side mirrors and take care of some minor details but here's what the front and side views look like so far with the pieces all loosely fit together. I really need to work with my camera little more because the color looks more like a faded red in the photos instead of the bright red that it actually is. Now....this is where most of the corrective work needs to be done. There are some fit issues back here in regards to the apron-to-body fit along with some minor wet sanding and polishing of the tail light assy that I painted black. In any case I've always liked the look of the dark tinted tail light panel versus the stock tail lights on these cars. ust gives them an evil look back there.

If you get this engine to fire up when you're done then I'm throwin' the friggin' towel in. Excellent progress Francis. -
WOW!!!! This one's coming along nicely. Really nicely!!!
