  1. Specifying the construction materials required is a slippery slope. IPMS (International Plastic Modelers Society) many years ago adapted to allow metal figures and other non-plastic kits or scratch built models. In the case of the RC car, there may be a technicality to disqualify it but at then end of the day it’s up to the judges or participants if they are voting and let the chips fall where they may.
  2. Imagine this slab side 289 without the widened fenders.
  3. My friend sent me some pics of his 289 Cobra. Iit has had many body mods made by previous owners so it could compete in vintage racing. He just had the wheels redone and it has been to a few concours shows already. Here are some older pics too.
  4. Cool project and great detailing under the hood.
  5. As you mentioned the 60’s and 70’s were a different time and custom work was the way to stand out in a competition. Who would want to judge hundreds of box stock builds to determine which was the best. It seems like most contests these days have multiple categories but whether it’s a judged or participant vote format for best of show that pretty much is up to the organizer to decide if all entries are eligible regardless of scale. I do not envy IPMS judges where they have to pick one model out of usually hundreds as the best one. So once is a while you are going to have a model which may be entirely scratch built that has all the bells and whistles that took hundreds if not thousands of hours to build that is just going to outshine everything else. Models like that should be shown at large events and the builder should be rewarded for their efforts. Now if the model shows up at local event with only a few dozen entries that might be a little overkill.
  6. Nice score on what I am sure are some normally pricey kits along with more common ones.
  7. Here’s one source. Email Keith Marks for more info. Mofobow@hotmail.com Expect to pay about $20 with shipping per sheet. Keith is in Canada.
  8. Fred put together perhaps the greatest racing car collections on the planet. A visit to the museum should be on everyone’s bucket list.
  9. Nice job. ?
  10. I used to go to this show almost every year when i lived up there. There was usually a decent amount of car, truck and motorcycles entires. Slim pickings in the swap meet for civilian vehicle models.
  11. Close up of the gluebomb I restored.
  12. It’s looks like Round2 made a pretty good set of accurate decals compared to the original issue kits and the Fred Cady decals. Keith Marks and Rays are a good alternative to buying the entire new kit which is really an MPC kit under AMT branding.
  13. What annoys me is when I only have a few times and there is a line for self-checkout and most people have carts full of dozens of items. How do they scan everything and put it back in the same cart? I have walked out of some stores that do not have a self checkout out when I only have one item (e.g a die-cast car) and everyone in line has a months worth of stuff in their cart. The only reason I can think of why these large stores do not have any self checkouts is to prevent theft as there is not anyone to really check to see if you scanned everything you put in a bag.
  14. You summed this up very well. The kits (MPC and AMT) have their flaws for sure. I think I have the most sets of decals possible for these kits (Marks, Cady, Round2, ARII/Doyshua, original AMT/MPC, Rays kits and one other custom made set.). I’ll post some pictures later of the various sets for comparison purposes.
  15. Great idea and a great way to get decals you want at a very low cost. One thing I did notice was the stripe below the trunk goes down to the bottom of the end caps. The ones on one of my builds isn’t correct either as it narrows to much at the bottom and is too wide where it begins to curve down. I think they were old Fred Cady decals but I’m not sure. Anyway, these pictures should show what I’m trying to say. I know I probably sound picky but when you own the real car you tend to notice these things more than usual.
  16. Plenty of pictures of the show on www.mamasboyz.org for those that do not do Facebook. Sounds like the turnout was great.
  17. Looks like a nice kit and a shame it’s presumed to be a piece of history. Great build of course too.
  18. Welcome back. I have a feeling the health care place will not miss you. ?
  19. Fantastic work. It’s been forever since I built one and from what I remember it went together well.
  20. Here’s another 70 glue bomb special. It’s not a Mach1 so I think it’s an MPC Boss 302.I hope to find the rest of the parts that were with it. I may have swapped hoods with another kit as this one looks more like an AMT one. I guess the good news is I can use most of the parts from the more common 69 MPC fastback.
  21. Making some progress. Tried to replicate the roll cage as per the diecast. Will probably finish the interior and then move on to the engine and final touches including decals. Diecast 1/18 model is on the left.
  22. Very nice work. Great color and contrasting white interior. Hopefully you can build a second one with the other one. I’ve built a few of the MPC and AMT kits over the years. ?
