1907 Curtiss V-8 Motorcycle
GLMFAA1 replied to cobrafia's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Maybe 4 Maisto 1/18th Harleys to make the engine, frame, wheels, handlebars, and then lots of evergreen or K&S tubing. Don't get you pants caught in that open gear, looks like a pad on the rear tire for a brake, no foot pegs that I can see. direct drive? glad he stuck with aviation and left the bikes to Harley and Davidson greg -
Ollie's strike again
GLMFAA1 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What does it take Ollie's to sell discount models. First there are 490 stores, so if each store gets 2 cases of let's say the Rat Fink 4040 that's 11,760 units. Let's say they get them at 20 cents on the dollar: that's $ 64.99 retail price so 12.98 each. so the cost is $152,644.80 cost, being sold at 19.99 equals $234,964.80 so a profit of $82,320 This is all conjecture on my part but interesting use of my calculator. Just keep building greg -
Does anybody make this siren?
GLMFAA1 replied to 1st 700 Quad's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I don't think Dave has anything like that. You might try Charlie as he has made older models of fire apparatus If you DIY I would start with rear of Johan LAPD siren back and work my way forward. good luck greg -
I watched an Adam Savage video regarding making miniature figures and the professional manufacture dips the figures in CA vats to smooth the figure. Has anyone tried just brushing CA glue on small parts to remove the ridges? I don't expect anyone to have a vat of CA glue? greg

I got a prepaid Master Card in the mail today as a settlement payment to user of electricity that were in the settlement from the companies for bribing the Ohio legislation. A whopping $7.84 was what the card is worth. That's about what a kilowatt of electricity cost. The processing and cost of creating the card is probably more that the card is worth. Now we get both ways: coal plants closing, higher rates, and wasted money. Anybody got an idea what I could by in the hobby for $7.84? greg

Gee I always thought the story was that the fish in his office was a marlin and not a shark and they took the fish to match the colors instead of using shark colors. greg

Cutting/shaping model "glass"
GLMFAA1 replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If your not using the part you are cutting off I find it easier to use Dremel sanding drums to remove clear parts. greg -

Ollie's stash at local store. "Tar Knif"* greg *If you grew up on the North Coast of Ohio you will know what the quote is about. -
The old Wil-O-Line wooden fire engine kits had the wheels. a little heavier spoked but right diameter. Looks like these in this photo are repros as I don't recall them in clear. Years ago Jim Etter cast repos in pewter. Interesting build, always fascinated by the power trains in the original automobiles. greg

Well, when your model fire department has eight ladder companies the parts become very familiar. greg
