Fanman Requested a Walkthrough

Thanks for the inventory, To all the other members, the saying about a picture being worth a thousand words is nothing to have had the pleasure of seeing most of these models in person: priceless as the mastercard ad says. greg greg -
I pull the picture from my file using Microsoft picture manager, Click 'edit picture' then on the sidebar is 'resize' clicking that I use 'predefined width x height' selecting 'web-large' which reduces picture to size to post that fits, for multiple photos use smaller size, If photos need to remain initial size just copy photo and reduce the copy to place in your post. greg

Holmes 750 twin-boom wrecker

Got a chance to dig out the ALF/Holmes and took a shot of the boom lock. I cheated and did not use Phil's plan on the lock. I used a simple C channel with a single piece from the other boom to fit inside and then pinned it through a hole hope this helps. greg -
You might try to see if an auto store would have taillight tape and just wrap the light bar with it. What are they call 'Canadian Tire' do you have AutoZone or NAPA? greg

Nice job on the jeeps. Wasn't the trailer originally in the AMT Corvette kit in the 60's. Back then I used mine as a car lift with a Lincoln log as the hydraulic center lift. greg -
Nice project. My brother bought my mother a brand new 1966 Chevelle Malibu 283 automatic. we had the car in the family until last year with 58,000 mile on it. Many a time my mother came out of church and found notes on her car from wanted buyers. A real four door 66 Chevelle project is on YouTube where a mechanic is dropping a Jaguar v12 in it. Interesting is that he states that only 19,000 4 door Chevelles were built in 1966 as opposed to 129,000 2 door Chevelles. Seems your model is going to be as rare as the real cars. greg

American LaFrance 700

Answer number 1: Years ago a Canadian named Ted Calvin (RIP) made the 700 cab from the AMT ALF cab. His 'how to' was published in the GLMFAA newsletter. One section missing is the window frame template. Answer number 2: Open cab fire apparatus goes all the way back to the first horse drawn equipment to the first motorized apparatus. Enclosed cabs came to existence in the 1930's with the Detroit fire department safety cab. Open cabs stayed in use until the 60's when rioting showed the need to protect the firefighters. Open cabs wer a fire department preference due to clear visibility when approaching the fire scene. freer movement about the cab. Probably some 'macho' mixed in there being firefighters that could fight all elements. Hope this helps. Happy New Year greg -
I built a RCMP unit using the Revell snap Expedition and the water mark decals. I have no pics and I gave it to a Canadian friend. I would test the decals before using them due to age. greg

take two longer pieces of stock and cut the zig zag by files and then cut to size and glue on the booms. greg -

One suggestion is to substitute Evergreen styrene parts for the Plastistruct butyl plastic parts as Evergreen was not around when Phil wrote the article. Plastistruct plastic is very susceptible to environmental influences and mating up to styrene is like steel and aluminum as you can notice on my model stabilizer body doors which are Plastistruct and not that 'lousy' AMT kit plastic greg -
Let me help John. It is not IMC but ICM from Czechoslovakia. They have variants of the model T with the latest being the speedster. Word of caution is that the fenders depicted in the box art are not in the kit. The kit has standard fenders. Hope this clears things up. There is also a 1/35th series of military T's from them greg

Has anyone ever done a model of the Dual trailered GMC Astro that is in the beginning of the movie? Just watched the beginning clip of the movie and think that would be a neat model set. Now there is a kit to go with the Nova. greg

Phil Jenson did a fine job on "how to". Here is my version of his build. Another source might be the First Gear wreckers greg -
Link-Belt HC-218 Truck Crane
GLMFAA1 replied to redneckrigger's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Tandem steering should be easier than the steering on your last project. 4 tie rods: 90 degree wheel knuckle with tie rod left to right and then tie rod from front to back. You might get away with just three tie rods. The Revell Simba crash truck has tandem front steering. greg -
I used anchor chains from the revel Cutty Sark kit which was probably universal for all their clipper boat kits. Micro Mart has boat chain, If you search the internet 'sling towing' you can find some videos on how the chains are hooked to the towed vehicles. The crane body looks like a Holmes 480, which could be another search. The beacon they used with their wreckers were Deitz beacons. All the other suggestions seem to be good advice. have fun building greg
-
Nice version since the kit uses standard rounded fenders and not speedster flatter squared off versions. Like the different radiator shroud, It would be nice if someone cast or manufacture the old bucket seats that could be used in other open cab applications greg
-
Good ideas, I would also put a flat edge on the round piece to mate with the sheet stock greg

Just to bring the great seal story to light: The late Doug Ogilvie who was president of Pierce in the 1980's. He saw a large order of mini pumpers going to Saudi Arabia and they had nothing on them denoting that they were made in the USA. At that time even Rosenbaur of Germany was using American chassis for fire apparatus. Doug had them place the great seal on the apparatus being exported and since then it has been on all Pierce apparatus. He even had a 30's Ford chief's car for publicity Photo from internet: Great job Charlie. greg
