78 CHEVY SHORT BED
mikemodeler replied to plasticfrog's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That is a great looking model and nice job on the trim! I am convinced that if Revell or Round 2 were to offer a GM truck kit with 2wd and 4wd drivetrains in the same box, they would sell like crazy! -
First time in 27 years of marriage that our Thanksgiving did not include additional family members. It was just the wife and our 2 grown kids and we actually had the best meal ever as there wasn't any stressing over who was running late or if everything was cooked to everyone's liking. My wife had major surgery a week ago and came through just fine so we had that to be thankful for but the best part was my 20 year old daughter volunteered to cook the dinner this year. She made perfect mashed potatoes, three casseroles, stuffing and sweet potatoes in addition to biscuits and corn bread. My big contribution was waiting in line on Tuesday at Honeybaked Ham to get the turkey breast and I did the post meal clean up as I have been told I do the best job of cleaning, must be the OCD! Hope everyone had a great meal and whomever they were with they enjoyed being with them.

Here's hoping you have a big turkey day.

Gonna be a quiet one this year in our house- just the 4 of us, no extra family or friends as my wife is recovering from major surgery and we are laying low. Took the easy way out and got a pre-cooked turkey breast from Honeybaked Ham. Hope everyone has a great holiday and for those forum members from another country, a great Thursday! -

That looks great, as usual, and love the color you chose! -
Hello after the hurricane!
mikemodeler replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Glad to hear that you are slowing getting back to some sense of normal (relatively speaking) and are able to see some progress in restoring services to the island. I cannot begin to fathom the devastation and how much hard work you (and others) have put in and have ahead of you, but as you mentioned, Puerto Rico will be back! Thanks for sharing with us and giving us some insight on what your experience was. -
Martin Truex- NASCAR Champion
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As the OP of this topic, it was intended to congratulate Martin Truex Jr. on his winning the championship and not turn it into a pissing match over who knows more about why Matt Kenseth is out of a ride this year. If you want to continue discussing the state of NASCAR, sponsorship deals, how much drivers get paid and who knows more or has "inside" guys feeding them information, start another thread please. -
Martin Truex- NASCAR Champion
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most of the drivers have made enough money and will be just fine if they invested it right.Making decisions in the heat of the moment is part of racing and admitting your mistakes is not something they all do, so props to Matt if he did own it. In this PC world, drivers have to be so careful as to not upset sponsors but yet stand up for their perceived "wrongs" from other drivers. -
Martin Truex- NASCAR Champion
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jonathan, Most teams get support from others, usually in the form of technical information, equipment and as you pointed out, sometimes they get people too. The point I was trying to make is that while there is support and resources, someone still has to drive the car and Martin Truex proved that he can drive and he earned his championship. I had the opportunity to meet him and talk with him back in his Michael Waltrip Racing days and I have to say he is one of the most down to earth guys and not ego driven like some of his peers. I think lost in the shuffle of all of the Dale Earnhardt retirement tributes yesterday was the fact that Matt Kenseth also "retired" and very little was mentioned of him or his contributions to the sport. -
Martin Truex- NASCAR Champion

Nope, based here in Charlotte NC I am pretty much sheltered from the inner workings of NASCAR and which teams are aligned, thanks for pointing that out. Most teams have alliances based the manufacturer (Chevy/Ford/Toyota) with help from the factories in many areas. The thing that sets the Toyota teams apart is the fact that their engines are supplied by TRD whereas the Chevy and Ford teams have different engine builders. As others have stated, it's good to see Martin win, he's worked hard and the team has worked harder to run with the big dollar teams. -
Watched the race yesterday and was so happy to see Martin Truex win his first NASCAR championship as he has worked hard to be as successful as he is. Their team is not like Joe Gibbs, Hendrick, Penske and being based in Denver certainly presents some challenges as well but they took the underdog role and made it work for them. Not since Alan Kulwicki won back in the '90s have I been so pleased to see a team win.

Didn't the recently reissued AMT Chevy Rescue Van include a gurney?

What kit did these jacks come from
mikemodeler replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The MPC Dodge pickup annual kits from 74-77 had similar jacks in them, along with a small tool box. I can't remember if the AMT 53 Ford pickup had a floor jack, I remember it had welding tanks and some other tools. With that kit ('53 Ford pickup) set for reissue, we will find out soon! -

quite the ambition in building that wagon! Don't let Clark Griswold see it, might take the family on another vacation! Nice job converting a mid size two door coupe into a full size four door wagon. -
The rock and roll band in heaven just got another member as Malcolm Young passed away at age 64. He had been suffering from dementia and not in good health. Contributed so much to the rock world and the band. RIP

Thanks for sharing and looks like there were quite a few outstanding models.

I worked at a car dealership in the early '80's and we took one in on trade. Cool vehicle but was very rusty (as most mid 70's GM trucks were!) and yes, it was a weird ride and felt top heavy. I believe one of the body shop guys bought it to tow his fishing boat and reworked the sheetmetal and threw a quick paint job on it, the camper was slightly trashed but he didn't care!
