Got the chance to walk through the Petersen Automotive Museum today while visiting Los Angeles and was impressed with the displays and quality of vehicles they had. The Ferrari and Bugatti vehicles were extremely nice and they had several AMBR winners too. Great day sightseeing in LA but the Museum was definitely the highlight!

Very nice, love the color and that engine compartment looks life like.

One of my favorite cars and models! I have multiple builds of this kit and love how easily they go together and how great they look when done. Nice color choices and the hardtop is a nice addition.

Back at you Kevin! Glad to be of help (and rid of a model!) and can't wait to see it built.

Re-releases
mikemodeler replied to Alix Bernard's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In some cases, manufacturers float news of possible new kits in order to get a sense of how the kit is received. They look at what the pre-orders are from the distributors and retailers and from there they decide what gets released. These pre-orders can be viewed as how soon they will cover their investment. Creating a whole new kit can run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars so they have to look at many angles before deciding what to offer. I know that Dave Metzner from Moebius and Ed Sexton from Revell (and possibly other employees from those companies) visit this forum and listen to our chatter. Ed will attend various shows displaying upcoming releases and asking attendees to write down their wish list for future review. Another example of the manufacturers reading this forum (and others) is how kits that had flaws got fixed either before their first run or in the following one. While not all flaws are caught and fixed, us modelers tend to be a critical bunch and our comments don't go unnoticed. -
Thoughts and prayers to you and your brothers in blue G.

The marketing/SPAM calls are getting weirder!
mikemodeler replied to peteski's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
There was a show on a few years ago with comic Tom Mabe called Mabe in America. One of his skits was dealing with a telemarketer and it was hilarious. If I can find it I will post it for all to enjoy. I usually answer the phone and once I know it's a spammer, I leave the phone on the counter or desk and eventually they hang up. -
Round2 Kat's Kollection - New Series
mikemodeler replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wasn't a fan of that kit when I was 40 years younger and I sure as heck aren't now! Let's face it, the cost of developing new kits is staggering and the market for them in the US is shrinking. Add in licensing costs (see the post above regarding Ram trucks) and it is why we are stuck with the same old same old from RC2. Revell has found a way to create some new Ford tools recently and maybe we should take that as a good sign? Moebius has too, with their F series trucks and hopefully that will spur more new kit development. If the model companies want to attract a younger demographic, they had better work on giving them something they are looking for. -
Re-releases
mikemodeler replied to Alix Bernard's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This and other somewhat related topics tend to come up as the seasons change. We all have a specific vehicle or two (or twenty!) that we feel would sell well and can't understand why the manufacturers don't/won't fix the molds or create new ones. In one word......economics. More detailed explanation- the cost associated with either re-issuing a kit or creating a new one are quite staggering and companies work within a budget and have to determine which ones will appease us and bring a financial return in order to keep the company running. I will leave it to the more informed members here to go into greater detail on the costs as there are many (some of which might not be apparent to us modelers) and it could be one or two that keep a kit from becoming a reality. If it were as easy as ordering some styrene and pouring it in the molds, we would have more kits to choose from, I promise you that. -
Dodge 4x4 truck
mikemodeler replied to 59 Impala's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
B-N-L resin has the 4x4 parts. The Modelhaus had a bunch of parts- grilles, short bed, hoods- but are no longer accepting orders. Haven't seen anyone else offer the parts they did, but sure would be nice if someone did. -
So! Who wants to build this one????

Ollie's strike again
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If they have them on the shelves, then it is effective immediately. The Ollie's near me had ALL of the toys cleared out of the regular aisles and was using that space for some holiday related items (Thanksgiving and Christmas). The model kits were on one of the red square metal displays and one side of it was models. -
Harry Pristovnik's models

Those models are truly works of art and show the craftsmanship and detail he put into his builds. Thank you for sharing those with us, not sure we got to see them before. -
How I spent my weekend. [February update on mt 1/1 project]
mikemodeler replied to Can-Con's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Looks purty, congrats on a very nice paint job, hard work pays off! -
Have the day off and the wife said " If you're near Ollie's, stop in and get some dishwasher soap, that last box you bought lasted a long time". Well, I listened and went in there and much to my surprise, they had the dishwasher soap AND some new model kits! The only Lindberg kits I saw were some Crown Vic police cars, but they did have the one pictured in the ad above as well as some AMT 63 Corvettes, 2013 Camaros and others that escape me now. I did grab one of the 63 Vettes and passed on the others. I did manage to stop at the Hobby Lobby next door and score a 83 Camaro kit and with my 40% off it was $18.00. The cashier remarked "They sure have gone up in price over the years! I remember when they were less than $3.00." and my response was "So do I!"

Great job! Like the others said, the paint is perfect. Love the details and those wheels give it a much more off road look.

1966 Chevy El Camino
mikemodeler replied to YBlock292's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice! Love the paint and the foil work is great. I agree with leaving the door handles off, looks cleaner without them. -
Back to the topic, there were several resin bodies of Venturas on eBay today, one from Jimmy Flintstone and one other resin caster. I did see a sealed version of this kit at a show once, guy wanted over $100 for it!

AMT 1983 Chevy Camaro Z28 Kit Review
mikemodeler replied to hpiguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Does anyone know if someone will offer different color stripes decals to do other colors? It would be nice to have some options. Saw this kit at Hobby Lobby and will be picking one up. -
New Plastic @ Hobby Lobby
mikemodeler replied to bandit1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I noticed that a HL in Gastonia NC had some new inventory as shown above. It was mentioned in a different post that HL has decided to price label most kits at $29.99, which is certainly their right to do. I almost always buy a kit there with the 40% off coupon so paying $18 plus tax is acceptable to me.
