  1. I wasn't a fan of that kit when I was 40 years younger and I sure as heck aren't now! Let's face it, the cost of developing new kits is staggering and the market for them in the US is shrinking. Add in licensing costs (see the post above regarding Ram trucks) and it is why we are stuck with the same old same old from RC2. Revell has found a way to create some new Ford tools recently and maybe we should take that as a good sign? Moebius has too, with their F series trucks and hopefully that will spur more new kit development. If the model companies want to attract a younger demographic, they had better work on giving them something they are looking for.
  2. This and other somewhat related topics tend to come up as the seasons change. We all have a specific vehicle or two (or twenty!) that we feel would sell well and can't understand why the manufacturers don't/won't fix the molds or create new ones. In one word......economics. More detailed explanation- the cost associated with either re-issuing a kit or creating a new one are quite staggering and companies work within a budget and have to determine which ones will appease us and bring a financial return in order to keep the company running. I will leave it to the more informed members here to go into greater detail on the costs as there are many (some of which might not be apparent to us modelers) and it could be one or two that keep a kit from becoming a reality. If it were as easy as ordering some styrene and pouring it in the molds, we would have more kits to choose from, I promise you that.
  3. B-N-L resin has the 4x4 parts. The Modelhaus had a bunch of parts- grilles, short bed, hoods- but are no longer accepting orders. Haven't seen anyone else offer the parts they did, but sure would be nice if someone did.
  4. This is what happens when money and poor taste come together!
  5. If they have them on the shelves, then it is effective immediately. The Ollie's near me had ALL of the toys cleared out of the regular aisles and was using that space for some holiday related items (Thanksgiving and Christmas). The model kits were on one of the red square metal displays and one side of it was models.
  6. Those models are truly works of art and show the craftsmanship and detail he put into his builds. Thank you for sharing those with us, not sure we got to see them before.
  7. That thing should move with a V8 in it! Of course with those Suburbanites out back, it will be harder to do smoky burnouts. Nice job Chuck, as always.
  8. Looks purty, congrats on a very nice paint job, hard work pays off!
  9. Have the day off and the wife said " If you're near Ollie's, stop in and get some dishwasher soap, that last box you bought lasted a long time". Well, I listened and went in there and much to my surprise, they had the dishwasher soap AND some new model kits! The only Lindberg kits I saw were some Crown Vic police cars, but they did have the one pictured in the ad above as well as some AMT 63 Corvettes, 2013 Camaros and others that escape me now. I did grab one of the 63 Vettes and passed on the others. I did manage to stop at the Hobby Lobby next door and score a 83 Camaro kit and with my 40% off it was $18.00. The cashier remarked "They sure have gone up in price over the years! I remember when they were less than $3.00." and my response was "So do I!"
  10. Great job! Like the others said, the paint is perfect. Love the details and those wheels give it a much more off road look.
  11. Very nice! Love the paint and the foil work is great. I agree with leaving the door handles off, looks cleaner without them.
  12. Back to the topic, there were several resin bodies of Venturas on eBay today, one from Jimmy Flintstone and one other resin caster. I did see a sealed version of this kit at a show once, guy wanted over $100 for it!
  13. Does anyone know if someone will offer different color stripes decals to do other colors? It would be nice to have some options. Saw this kit at Hobby Lobby and will be picking one up.
  14. I noticed that a HL in Gastonia NC had some new inventory as shown above. It was mentioned in a different post that HL has decided to price label most kits at $29.99, which is certainly their right to do. I almost always buy a kit there with the 40% off coupon so paying $18 plus tax is acceptable to me.
  15. Don't know but I know the DRAG guys are friends with him, maybe they can share some info. Hopefully he is so busy with his chrome business that he has gotten behind with his emails.
  16. Wish I could get excited about this kit but I can't. Call me a purist, but the Jeeps have become too much a luxury SUV and have strayed way far from their roots. I understand some of the changes were necessitated by government standards and trying to appeal to more buyers, but I lost interest in Jeeps when they started hanging all the plastic add on stuff on them. I am really hoping someone would take a page from the Moebius folks and develop a series of models like the Ford F series trucks they are doing for Dodge and GM trucks from 67- 80.
  17. Just seeing this Mark, hope you are feeling better and of course, nothing but positive thoughts and prayers for you.
  18. Thanks for the review, definitely got to get one or two of these. My observation- the ejector pin marks on the bottom of the hood look like they will be a bear to fix, otherwise it looks like a decent job was done to restore the tool.
  19. Looks great, that blue really pops in the sun! Take care with that second hurricane coming at you, you guys are getting it bad this year!
  20. Great work as usual Tom, your attention to details really shines through in your builds. That trailer looks spot on and as others have said, the truck looks perfect!
  21. Nice start, always thought the tow boom in that Cooter truck was a bit cheesy. Should look nice when you have it done.
  22. So today I found myself in Rock Hill SC and decided to stop in the only LHS in the Charlotte metro area and see what they had been up to. My main motivation was to pick up the latest issue of MCM because of the articles that have been mentioned here. This LHS- Hobby Stop- has been looking like business is hurting for some time now and the first thing I noticed was revised business hours of 10-6 Tuesday- Saturday. Walking in, there were a couple of old guys hanging out talking with the owner, but no one else. I walked to the back to see what was new in the kit department and there was some new stuff, but a lot of it was the same old, same old. I did decide to grab the new Suburban as it was marked $25.95 and I thought if I didn't do my part to support him, then who would? I also picked up a can of Tamiya paint but put it back when he told me it was $18, must have been real gold in that can of gold paint! My point is that I made a decision to support the hobby shop because I could. That Suburban will not get built for a while and I could have ordered online for less or waited until my Hobby Lobby had it and used a 40% off coupon, but helping the LHS felt like the thing to do. How long this store stays in business, I don't know. He does a lot with R/C but previous conversations with him tells me that has taken a hit too, with customers shopping him for advice or repairs but buying online.
  23. Squadron is having a sale on Vallejo paint, check it out!
