Looks awesome! Love the color and your details on the trim look perfect.

Nice job, paint and decals look good. That A/C compressor looks a little big to me, hopefully it isn't as bad in person.

Hobby Lobby vs Michaels
mikemodeler replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Back in the day when they did the Make and Take classes on Saturdays, they would put the left over bagged kits in their clearance aisle for $5, and it was easy to score a couple of them no problem. I had a couple of the Revell Impala police cars and Camaro concept cars that were great for when the nephews stopped by. The only thing I have bought at a Michaels in recent years have been paint brushes- haven't found a kit there that I didn't already have or could elsewhere cheaper. I do get their weekly coupon email and one of these days I might buy a new airbrush with it but unless they revamp their kit offering, I don't see me buying any kits there. -

Nice job so far, like the color and the lift looks great. You are correct that the kit has been around for years, I have an original MPC version of this kit with the V-6 engine and snow plow, and it builds nicely. -

There's no rule that says you have to give them a valid email account....... -
AMT Models Show Off Hauler SuperSet
mikemodeler replied to SlotDaddy1963's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They were all decent kits and built up nicely as I remember. As mentioned, they were also available individually and can probably be found on eBay. I might have all three of those in my stash, would have to check for sure. -

Nice start, like the color choices. I have a couple of those to build, haven't decided on colors yet but am thinking one might be a beater as I try my hand at weathering. -

Nice job Chuck, really like the stance and those wheels really make it look the part. I am not surprised that you weathered this one, your skills are outstanding. -

Some really nice rigs in there, lots of chrome and shiny paint! Loved the wreckers, looked like someone spends a fair amount of time polishing them at Homers! -
Looking awesome! Love the color and it sits just right!

They look fantastic and nice color choices. They are one of my favorite cars and you have done a great job on all of them!

That is one sweet CJ ! Nice job on resurrecting it from a pile of parts, love the color and the stance. -
Nice start and awesome work on stretching the bed and frame. That sliding rotator should be cool when done. Are you still planning on a second steer axle? You might want to check with Joseph at Fireball Modelworks for help with the decals. He used to produce some but I think he may have stopped doing them, it's worth an email.

It will be interesting to see the Bronco kit and how Revell does the wheel flares. If the body has been changed, then the flares and panels I bought from Olsen Brothers might not be needed to convert the first issue Bronco kit. The Honcho will probably sell okay with the snowmobile, despite it being a very simple kit. Might pick one up, still haven't built the one from 15 years ago so maybe not. The High Roller makes some sense only if one wants some big mud tires, hopefully Revell pays attention and doesn't flub up the tires like they did in the old Mad Mudder Blazer kit. Sure would like to see some modern era pick ups or a new offering of 67-72 GM and Dodge pickups, I think they would be great sellers!

Racer's Wedge
mikemodeler replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I haven't seen any 1:1 trucks with that type of two axle single wheel set up on the road, but that doesn't mean you can't have one in scale. I think I have some resin conversion pieces in my stash that replace the kit two wheel opening with a single opening. I will check and if memory serves me right, I may have an extra pair if you are interested John. -
That is looking great, I am really liking this build and thinking I may have to take the plunge and buy one. Where did you find this kit and how much was it?
-
I only have a handful of older, OOP kits in my stash and pretty much know that they won't be reissued. They sit, waiting to be built, because that is why I got them in the first place. The boxes are open and ready to be built, but have a couple dozen WIPs in front of them and if you add in my modelers ADD, it might be awhile before they get done!

The weather here in NC can be somewhat unpredictable as well. A week ago yesterday we had a cold front move thru and our dew point dropped to about 50 degrees, which is unheard of here in July/August, and a week later it was back to 70 degrees. We learn to deal with the heat and humidity, a small price to pay for rarely having to shovel snow. I would rather have a longer fall and spring than the long cold winters I grew up with in Northern Illinois. After 12 years here, I think I have adapted to this climate and could not envision going back to the cold and snow of the north. Some of my friends think I am crazy for living here where they think it is "hotter than Hades" and I think they are crazy for living where I think it's way too cold for a human!

Always loved this body style 2002, worked at a BMW dealer in the early 80's and missed out on a couple of these that were in great shape. Will have to pick one up and build it the way I would have back in the day! Thanks for sharing.

Like that look and the color choice is perfect for a custom!
