  1. Good points Bill, but what is the shelf life of this product? I could see buying this if one had a bunch of grilles and bumpers to chrome, but how much product would you use and what if it goes bad in the can because you didn't use it fast enough? Might be worthwhile for a model club to buy or someone who does resin casting and wants to chrome some of their pieces they offer.
  2. Nice job on that, hopefully that will keep your Dad motivated to finish the car and you two can cruise in style!
  3. I was just on the Fireball Modelworks website and Chief Joseph has added a bunch of new stuff for the Revell Ford Bronco kit. Grilles, bumpers, winches, wheels, tires, and more! I am putting together my shopping list for Santa, suggest you do too!
  4. The other model mag has an article on these kits and the history behind them. As far as the quality of them, I would say the effort out into the Scout was not on par as the bigger trucks. Sure would be nice to see a first gen Scout or any of the pickups.
  5. Third plane trip inside of 30 days and finally one where there were no delays or baggage mishaps! Glad to be home, no plane travel for a week!
  6. I fully expected to see a rusty beater with mismatched painted body parts and a worn out snow plow hanging off the front end! Nice job Chuck!
  7. Wife is a teacher, either gonna be Spring Break or wait until retirement!
  8. How nice of that old friend to think of you like that! While I could probably use one, what I really need is to get back to the bench! Can't wait to see that chassis, Christmas is coming!
  9. Well George, you admitted that you should have bought them, and many of us agree with you. It's a shame that management couldn't/wouldn't do something, but in the grand scheme of things in a store that size, they figure you'll either buy them or not and they have other fish to fry. Like someone said a long time ago talking about this hobby- if you see something you like and want, get it as it might not be there tomorrow! That was mainly directed at resin items, but the same can be said for kits.
  10. Sad and heartbreaking for sure! I saw something similar about 15-20 years ago, it was a race shop though. It was an older guy who ran dirt track cars and had several of his cars as well as a couple of others inside the building as he was known as a great tuner. It too was in a rural area and no fire hydrants, so all the water had to be trucked in and it was mid January in northern Illinois, so there was only so much they could do. The guy ended up in the hospital, having chest pains and later determined to have had a mild heart attack because of the fire. There was race fuel, a dozen or so Sprint Car tires and several welding setups that made for a spectacular blaze.
  11. Years ago we took the kids out to see their grandparents in Surprise, probably around 2001. It was mid March, saw some spring training baseball. Temps in the Phoenix area were 75-80 degrees, very nice for us as we were living in Chicago at the time. Took a trip up to the Grand Canyon, late Winter snow left 14 inches of snow and it was in the low 30's! Needless to say, we didn't stay long! Definitely want to go back there and see all the stuff the inlaws didn't want to see, this thread has me thinking about a trip maybe next year?
  12. Nice job on the weathering and realistic look of a worn truck.
  13. Me too, although I think the axles and wheels from one of the recent issues of the Jeep CJ-5 would work just fine. I hope they give us a choice of either half or full cab tops for this.
  14. Very nice, clean and well detailed. Great color choices as it is not a color seen all the time.
  15. It's a thankless, volunteer type job that often goes unnoticed. Michael does a great job and is an all around nice guy to boot! Yes, Harry left a deep void but having communicated with both Michael and Harry, I would like to think Michael will do well following in Harry's footsteps. Both men are class acts and have a passion for the hobby that is reflected in the way this place runs. Many thanks to you Michael!
  16. Unfortunately no, that kit is long gone. I do have one I am working on, if I get to it I will be sure to snap pictures and share.
  17. Nice job on the paint and your details look great! One thing on these kits that bugs me is the lack of rocker trim behind the rear wheel opening, not sure why it was missed.
  18. Tower Hobbies has some good pricing on Tamiya and Testors paints and offers discounts on orders and occasionally free shipping. If I can't find paint locally, I order it online.
  19. I carefully used super glue as it attaches to the firewall and body tub.
  20. I painted everything unassembled , seemed to work okay. Test fit it several times after you primer it before you spray color to ensure the hood sits down on the fenders correctly, they can be a bit touchy sometimes and need a little sanding to fit properly.
  21. Nice job on a very basic kit. You made it look great with the lift and detailing.
  22. If it weren't for the Revell Snap Fast 63 Corvette and 69 Camaro and 34 Ford models, my display cases would be mighty bare! Yes, they have given us many variations of Camaros, Corvettes and 32 -34 Fords, but if Edsels, Studebakers and Pacers were the cars of custom car builders or seen as the "cool" car, then you can bet we would have endless models of them! As for cars I grew up with, I have little to no desire to build a 73 Chrysler Newport, 79 Chevy Caprice or 83 Caprice Wagon that I remember my parents owning. I do have a Moebius Ford pickup to replicate the 71 F250 that my Dad owned that I learned to drive stick shift in, and have a Chevy van to create a 79 G10 he replaced the F250 with. If the kit companies could fulfill all of our wants and desires of cars from the last 50 -60 years and make money doing it, I think they would.
  23. It is my understanding that chemicals and paints (solvent based items) have to pass the stringent California labeling and content rules in order to be sold in the US. Hopefully Tamiya will see to it to bring these here, would definitely be of interest to many!
  24. Enjoy it Marty! As someone who has been involved in the auto parts business since 1982 (with a couple of years off), I can certainly relate to wanting to hang it up. Many changes in the 35 years I have been around it, both on the OEM and aftermarket side, and I wish I could tell you it has all been good! Hopefully you will get the time and motivation to build models as well as enjoy life!
  25. In my opinion, it appears to be a little tall. That said, if you are building a monster motor street truck with a tall intake, then that might be what you need to clear it. I have always thought smaller cowl hoods looked better, especially if it is a street truck.
