Martin Truex- NASCAR Champion
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Most of the drivers have made enough money and will be just fine if they invested it right.Making decisions in the heat of the moment is part of racing and admitting your mistakes is not something they all do, so props to Matt if he did own it. In this PC world, drivers have to be so careful as to not upset sponsors but yet stand up for their perceived "wrongs" from other drivers. -
Martin Truex- NASCAR Champion
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jonathan, Most teams get support from others, usually in the form of technical information, equipment and as you pointed out, sometimes they get people too. The point I was trying to make is that while there is support and resources, someone still has to drive the car and Martin Truex proved that he can drive and he earned his championship. I had the opportunity to meet him and talk with him back in his Michael Waltrip Racing days and I have to say he is one of the most down to earth guys and not ego driven like some of his peers. I think lost in the shuffle of all of the Dale Earnhardt retirement tributes yesterday was the fact that Matt Kenseth also "retired" and very little was mentioned of him or his contributions to the sport. -
Martin Truex- NASCAR Champion

Nope, based here in Charlotte NC I am pretty much sheltered from the inner workings of NASCAR and which teams are aligned, thanks for pointing that out. Most teams have alliances based the manufacturer (Chevy/Ford/Toyota) with help from the factories in many areas. The thing that sets the Toyota teams apart is the fact that their engines are supplied by TRD whereas the Chevy and Ford teams have different engine builders. As others have stated, it's good to see Martin win, he's worked hard and the team has worked harder to run with the big dollar teams. -
Watched the race yesterday and was so happy to see Martin Truex win his first NASCAR championship as he has worked hard to be as successful as he is. Their team is not like Joe Gibbs, Hendrick, Penske and being based in Denver certainly presents some challenges as well but they took the underdog role and made it work for them. Not since Alan Kulwicki won back in the '90s have I been so pleased to see a team win.

Didn't the recently reissued AMT Chevy Rescue Van include a gurney?

What kit did these jacks come from
mikemodeler replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The MPC Dodge pickup annual kits from 74-77 had similar jacks in them, along with a small tool box. I can't remember if the AMT 53 Ford pickup had a floor jack, I remember it had welding tanks and some other tools. With that kit ('53 Ford pickup) set for reissue, we will find out soon! -

Buick Electra STW 1986 ready to "Under Glass"

quite the ambition in building that wagon! Don't let Clark Griswold see it, might take the family on another vacation! Nice job converting a mid size two door coupe into a full size four door wagon. -
The rock and roll band in heaven just got another member as Malcolm Young passed away at age 64. He had been suffering from dementia and not in good health. Contributed so much to the rock world and the band. RIP

Thanks for sharing and looks like there were quite a few outstanding models.

I worked at a car dealership in the early '80's and we took one in on trade. Cool vehicle but was very rusty (as most mid 70's GM trucks were!) and yes, it was a weird ride and felt top heavy. I believe one of the body shop guys bought it to tow his fishing boat and reworked the sheetmetal and threw a quick paint job on it, the camper was slightly trashed but he didn't care!

The Nova is nice to see and definitely an improvement over the Trumpeter kit from years ago, but I wouldn't expect to see it for a year. The pickup was already announced and while seeing that it will have multiple beds and possibly different drivetrains, I suspect it will be at least 9-12 months before we see it. There are some revisions needed to be done to each one and it's great that they showed us 3D prints, but there is a difference between test shots in styrene and a 3D print! I will probably grab one of each, but hope there are some other "new" kits on the horizon that generate more excitement for me than these two.

Both of my kids were in a MC JROTC unit in high school, the only MC unit in the county, they learned a lot from their leaders and being the only Marine unit, other high school students were envious. They also spent time at Parris Island and Camp LeJeune, got a real taste of Marine life too! Happy Birthday USMC, 242 years young!

Hate to admit it but that looks great! Nice details and another example of how the snap kits can be made to look realistic!

Nice job on combining the two kits and I like it better with the chrome trim.

Shasta camper
mikemodeler replied to samdiego's topic in WIP: All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
Actually Mark, The Modelhaus offered a resin version of the Shasta camper and I have one on order. I have seen this camper at HL and am thinking of picking one up and selling the resin one once it arrives. It would be nice to have some recreational vehicles in scale plastic kits, but not sure how well they have sold in the past. -
Actually, the way Revell does their snapper kits, I would welcome some nice new tools from them! My hope is that we will finally get a decent 67-72 GM truck kit someday, one that could be built several different ways-2wd/4wd, shortbed/longbed. With the recent 66 Suburban, how hard would it be for Revell to create a 67-72 version?
