  1. Kinda sorta. This particular kit was the first version of the CJ-5 (IIRC) and came with several options not seen in this kit since it's original issue including a half cab, push bumper, snow plow and V-6 engine. The Daisy Duke kit is not entirely correct as the the Jeep in the show was a CJ-7, not the CJ-5. Nice start on the kit, I have had this one in my stash for close to 15 years, have hesitated to build it because I have wanted to resin cast some of the parts to build multiples. I like the updated undercarriage for the snow plow, you have nailed the look correctly! I am going to speculate that you will be fixing the clumsy looking pump assembly as well, what about the lights? I'll be watching, just might get me to start on mine!
  2. Lived in the Chicago area for 40+ years and suffered from this problem, especially when I worked in dealerships and my hands were exposed to the cold dry air, grease and water. Best thing I found was to soak my hands in warm water and then apply some udder cream. Didn't have latex gloves to put on back in the early 80's but wish I had, would have saved me a ton of pain and suffering. If you are working outside or exposed to cold air/weather, wear latex gloves if you can to keep the exposure to a minimum. Most auto parts stores have them readily available and I know NAPA has them on sale this month.
  3. Very nice job on the details and weathering! I think I have seen that truck down here in Charlotte!
  4. Nice story, glad to see that it wasn't overdone on the restoration so they could enjoy it.
  5. I remember the program Curt, can't remember if I sent away for any kits though.Would be nice to have some type of "rewards" program but keep in mind that they cost money so you have to ask if you are willing to pay for it. Granted there are some that wouldn't participate but much like the replacement parts program Revell has, there would some looking to game the system for a free kit or two.
  6. I have this kit in the started pile along with a couple of extras for a resin conversion of a 300 coupe. This is my favorite Chevelle body style and hope to get a couple of these done this year. Nice kit, remember some favorable reviews and should go together pretty easy.
  7. Wouldn't be surprised to see Chevrolet step in and do something for him, either restoring the truck or giving him a new Silverado. Nice story.
  8. He showed a lot of us how to deal with cancer with dignity and determination. Always thought of him as a class act who was a real professional in his work. The tributes on ESPN today were hard to watch as many of his colleagues struggled to maintain composure as they described what a great guy he was and how much he loved his daughters. May he rest in peace.
  9. If these stores were near me I would be more likely to shop for kits there, but the stores around me don't come close to looking this up to date or complete. A real shame as the so called hobby shops in my area are disappearing or focusing more on R/C and abandoning model kits.
  10. Nice and clean.........must not be snowing yet! Great job on detailing this truck.
  11. Wow. Always stopped in there when I was in town. Never spent less than 45 minutes or $10 there as the selection of stuff to look at was incredible.
  12. I was on the fence over this model. I like the styling of it but wasn't "in love" with the car like some others. Seeing these test shots have got me thinking about a couple of different versions and this is on my "to buy " list along with the coming Ford Pickups. Thanks Dave and Art for sharing the pictures and giving some explanations on the kit, much appreciated.
  13. trying to reduce the stash and not increase it, but with that said, I'll probably get a few of the Mobeius Ford Pickups and some other kits that catch my eye.
  14. Those are nice and looks like some were a real challenge!
  15. That came out great Dan! I will be working on some similar WIPs this weekend and hope they come out as nice as yours!
  16. I have decided to focus on some theme builds in 2015 and will work towards that but hope to clear off the WIPs on the workbench before I do. I spent time this week working on them and was surprised to see so many of them really close to being done so hopefully I can get to the theme build soon! I will also be thinning out my stash as I have some models that I have lost interest in and plan on getting rid of. I am sure that will be offset with some of the expected releases so not sure how many kits I will actually get rid of! LOL!
  17. It must be a difference in management that sees several model aisle re-sets at Hobby Lobby every year while Michael's appears to have not updated their selection in several years. I will have to spend more time searching their craft section for some items that can be used for detailing as many have mentioned here. Thanks for contributing to this thread, a lot of great information was shared. Happy New Year!
  18. I agree, spray can or not, you have mastered the art of smooth shiny paint! They all look very nice, great variety of models.
  19. All very nice and what a great variety! I too like that yellow Chevelle.
  20. Very Nice, I have to get started on mine one of these days. Clean and well detailed.
  21. They were the custom chopper kits from years ago.
  22. Hadn't been in a Michael's for months but had the 50% off coupon and was running errands today and thought, what the heck, let's see what they have. Well, I do realize that we are 5 days removed from Christmas and the selection might not be that great but was I disappointed! Not only was it condensed into a small area, it was way out of date! They had few newer kits but most of them were dated. What really surprised me was that they still had the Revell motorcycle kits on the shelf! It seemed like not too long ago they had a better selection and more current kits but the store I was in today seemed like no one has paid attention to the model kits in quite some time! I remember going to this store for their Saturday Build it class with my kids and buying bagged Revell snap kits for $5. With a couple of Hobby Lobby stores and a Hobbytown USA in my area, it's looking more and more like online shopping is becoming my source for my fix. I probably have enough paint, glue and kits to last me forever, but it is sad to see the hobby disappearing so to speak. Interested to hear if others have found the same thing at their local Michael's stores.
  23. Very realistic looking, nicely detailed. I am sure the trailer will be just as nice.
  24. IIRC, a regular cab is cheaper to insure than an extended or crew cab due to the number of passengers the vehicle can carry. You are correct Danno that fleets and municipalities probably make up the majority of the buyers. Back on topic, I would be interested in a resin standard cab for one of my Meng kits.
  25. Nice bunch of cars there Jeff! I really like the black Cutlass, looks very sleeper-like.
