I have decided to focus on some theme builds in 2015 and will work towards that but hope to clear off the WIPs on the workbench before I do. I spent time this week working on them and was surprised to see so many of them really close to being done so hopefully I can get to the theme build soon! I will also be thinning out my stash as I have some models that I have lost interest in and plan on getting rid of. I am sure that will be offset with some of the expected releases so not sure how many kits I will actually get rid of! LOL!

Michael's - what's your opinion?
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It must be a difference in management that sees several model aisle re-sets at Hobby Lobby every year while Michael's appears to have not updated their selection in several years. I will have to spend more time searching their craft section for some items that can be used for detailing as many have mentioned here. Thanks for contributing to this thread, a lot of great information was shared. Happy New Year! -
I agree, spray can or not, you have mastered the art of smooth shiny paint! They all look very nice, great variety of models.

All very nice and what a great variety! I too like that yellow Chevelle.

Very Nice, I have to get started on mine one of these days. Clean and well detailed.

Michael's - what's your opinion?
mikemodeler replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They were the custom chopper kits from years ago. -
Hadn't been in a Michael's for months but had the 50% off coupon and was running errands today and thought, what the heck, let's see what they have. Well, I do realize that we are 5 days removed from Christmas and the selection might not be that great but was I disappointed! Not only was it condensed into a small area, it was way out of date! They had few newer kits but most of them were dated. What really surprised me was that they still had the Revell motorcycle kits on the shelf! It seemed like not too long ago they had a better selection and more current kits but the store I was in today seemed like no one has paid attention to the model kits in quite some time! I remember going to this store for their Saturday Build it class with my kids and buying bagged Revell snap kits for $5. With a couple of Hobby Lobby stores and a Hobbytown USA in my area, it's looking more and more like online shopping is becoming my source for my fix. I probably have enough paint, glue and kits to last me forever, but it is sad to see the hobby disappearing so to speak. Interested to hear if others have found the same thing at their local Michael's stores.

IIRC, a regular cab is cheaper to insure than an extended or crew cab due to the number of passengers the vehicle can carry. You are correct Danno that fleets and municipalities probably make up the majority of the buyers. Back on topic, I would be interested in a resin standard cab for one of my Meng kits.

Nice bunch of cars there Jeff! I really like the black Cutlass, looks very sleeper-like.

2013 60th Anniversary Corvette 427 Convertible

It will be a work of art when you are finished, like all of your Corvettes! Looking forward to seeing this one done! -
Rules for mailing Packages in December.....sorry Gibbs

Yep Al, with the rising costs at Fed Ex and UPS, people are using the USPS and they have been overloaded. A friend works at a sorting center and he said it has been the craziest he has ever seen it. -
2014 builds

Very nice, you obviously have the lifted and off-road ready look figured out! Nice collection of vehicles, really like the Camino and what you were able to do with that Hot Rod pickup. -

Looks good! I remember getting back into the hobby back around 1993 and one of the first kits I built was this truck, in a similar color! Nice job and I am sure he enjoyed being surprised with it! -

That Chevy coupe is really nice, but then they all are! -
Nice job on all of those Tyrone, they are works of art for sure!

I dunno Harry, those sure look a lot like those pictures you try to fool us with! In all seriousness, very nice builds there and am jealous of the time and skill it must take to execute so well.

New kits with flaws.
mikemodeler replied to Dave Metzner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You really know how to contradict yourself, don't you Bill? Good enough just might be the best someone is capable of or it could be YOUR interpretation, which is it? Why does it have to be YOUR definition of "excellent"? in order to be correct? -

Looks great and this should be a nice one when done! Love the beefier axles and springs and the plain look suits this build perfect. Any measurements on the bed modifications? Is the rack made from round or square tubing? Thanks! -

Maybe Ace will get spellcheck from Santa? Geez, I hope he fires who ever typed that wrong, given his intolerance for imperfection. -

mikemodeler replied to Dave Metzner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Could be that Dave doesn't address this issue because he doesn't work for Revell and can't explain why? Probably safe to say that no one enjoys a kit that is flawed, some just can't let it go. -
A small victory...

Welcome back and glad to hear you made it through that terrible period of uncertainty. -

Once again, thank you Dave for shedding light on how the process works for you and Moebius. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.
