It was a mother and infant that were killed when a tree fell on their house. My son is in the National Guard and is somewhere in eastern NC helping. We pray that he doesn't witness any loss of human life, it is bad enough to prepare for it in times of war, much harder when you have had the chance to evacuate. The heavy rain is moving into the Charlotte area this afternoon thru tomorrow. So far we are hanging in and other than some branches and leaves down, nothing worse than what we get with a bad storm. But like Brian said, this is a bad storm that lasts for days, not hours.

Revell is back in Northlake IL
mikemodeler replied to Mike 1017's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great article, thanks for sharing it Casey. I did notice that there was no mention of R&D in the US, hopefully someone like an Ed Sexton can be used to bring new subjects to the market. -
What did you see on the road today?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well Duh, his was a shortbed '74! -
Let's hope that there is something in the works for the Ranchero. I know I was caught off guard over the Chevelle, so maybe there was a bunch of other stuff in the works when Hobbico closed the Revell offices. Hopefully we will see some exciting new kits in the coming months! And as Niteowl points out, the new owners have probably started turning a profit so they should have some extra cash to use for developing new kits!

What did you see on the road today?

Didn't get any pictures but I did see a bunch of vehicles headed from Tennessee to the Carolinas for hurricane rescue efforts. Ambulances, power company trucks, search and rescue teams all going to help. I stopped along I-40 in Tennessee at the Seiverville exit and there were tons of hot rods and cool cars and trucks headed to Pigeon Forge for this weekend's car show. If I didn't have to get home for the hurricane my plan was to stop there on Friday and check out some of the cars. -
Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!
mikemodeler replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I just reviewed my invoices and to further state what a class act The Modelhaus and Don and Carol are, they combined the shipping and knocked $26.00 off my order total. I had mentioned to them to pocket the shipping charges for their retirement vacation fund and they didn't, not sure how many companies would have done that! Be happy to get my shipment, got some stuff to build. -

got my notice that mine shipped today. bittersweet but excited to get the parts. -
If we can make it through with power, I plan to be working at the bench during the storm. I have to have something to distract me from watching the weather channel and might as well doing something productive.

FWIW- the diamond plate sheets from Don Mills are the most to scale and accurate ones I have found. They are a little thick, but some sanding of the backside does thin it out quite nicely.

Yup, what he said! This should help pave the way for more kits.

We are getting an all new, brand new kit from a company most had given up for dead 6 months ago and the best we can do is start guessing which part of it is going to be inaccurate? Jump to conclusions on what the next version of it will be? People! Let's be grateful we have this new kit which, at first glance, appears to be fairly accurate. Secondly, history has taught us that most new tools from Revell in the last 20 years will yield several versions and we need to let them play out. Who knows, maybe a 68 Malibu wagon is on the horizon! I am just glad to see new tooling coming forward, it gives me hope that we are being listened to and some of our wishful thinking is turning into reality.

difficult question

Hope you can dispose of them. If you can package them in large lots it will go faster, reducing the number of trips to the post office or UPS. If you sell on eBay, you will likely get more for them, or at least for the ones deemed "desirable" but might be left with some that are harder to get rid of. Be prepared to take less than what you feel is a fair price unless you want to keep re-listing them until someone takes them. Be upfront about shipping, the biggest complaint about eBay sellers is their shipping times. If you are only going to ship on Saturdays, end your auctions on Wednesdays to give buyers time to make their payment and you time to box and ship on time. -
I was in Knoxville earlier this week and made it home today (back in Charlotte). I saw several caravans of utility repair crews making their way east to the Carolinas to stage and get ready for the aftermath. Also saw several caravans of ambulances and water rescue teams from fire departments making their way as well. Stopped and got gas in Tennessee and was talking with a crew that flies rescue helicopters, they were dispatched from Kentucky! You don't realize how much we all pitch in to help one another until you see it for yourself. I am hoping and praying to not need their services as I feel like I have prepared my house and family for this storm. Until it makes landfall and starts on it's path, we don't know for sure how bad it will be. We are 160 miles NW of Wilmington NC, the projected area of landfall, but don't know how much rain and wind and storms we will get. My son is in the NC National Guard and he has been deployed to the coast to serve in a rescue and recovery role. He is a heavy equipment operator and is ready to do whatever is asked to help others, but hopes that he doesn't have to witness much destruction of property or human life. We will get through this much like those in Florida and Texas did last year. Sucks that Mother Nature has to play these cruel jokes on us.

I am in for a couple. Nice to see Revell quieting the critics and naysayers, hopefully there is more like this coming our way!

Watched this build evolve over time, absolutely stunning work! Glad to see it finished.

Modelhaus Inventory Sale!!!!

Hopefully they will bundle all three of my orders so it is one package/shipment. -
I feel your pain- I have had a busy summer and have spent maybe 2 hours at the bench since Memorial Day. Our problem here has been heat and humidity. A normal summer is 35 days above 90 degrees F and this year we have logged over 60! A lot of humidity has prevented me from painting anything and I have lost motivation on at least 10 WIPs that should be done by now. If the hurricane Florence does in fact hit NC, I might have some time to build next weekend as long as it's daylight!

Ford dump truck
mikemodeler replied to fordf-100's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I like it! It's a work truck afterall and not supposed to be a work of art like a show rod. You did a great job replicating a light duty dump, picked an uncommon color but then again they all don't have to be red or orange! -

You took a kit that lacks detail and accuracy and made it very nice! Great job, too bad they didn't spend some time on making that kit a better representation of the real thing. -
Ollie's strike again

The Ollies in Matthews NC had a ton of the old Lindberg kits, did not see any of the other kits that have been shown in this thread. -
difficult question
mikemodeler replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jeff, First off, sorry to hear about your health woes, hope you can find some peace with some answers here. While selling is forbidden but trading is allowed, I would take Casey's advice and put a list together of what you have that you want to get rid of. Conduct business via PM and email and work it out with members here. When I was out of work last year, I was able to sell off 65 kits for about $600 and after shipping I had cleared about $480. Those kits went to a good home and I was able to pay a few bills until I got back on my feet. I had some crazy lowball offers of $3-5 per kit and I just ignored them as I knew I could get 2-3 times that easily. Hopefully one of your kids can help you compile a list and snap a few pictures. Let us know what you have, might be able to work something out with the members here. Take care, let us know if there is anything else we can do to help. -

Shhhhhhhhhhhh! Dang it Chuck, now the secret is out! Yes I build, just at a snail's pace and usually for myself! I do have some builds to share, just so busy that I have to remember to stop, take pictures and post!
