I'm not in charge of anything, but as far as I know the contents of your kits and mine are exactly the same (or darn close to it). Anthony didn't specifically approve my Corvair but he commented on that post and didn't DIS-allow it so I'm assuming it's okay. I vote for your Corvair to be okay if mine is. Why should someone be excluded just because he doesn't have a rare old box?

He's with Clarence "The Big Man" Clemons now.

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
BOO-YA, GITTER DONE! That goes for everyone else, too. I've now got all the chrome foil work done on my '59 Vette, and most of the chassis. About all that's left is interior detailing, wheel detailing, and final assembly. I should be finished tomorrow, too. NOTE: As is now tradition, we will allow all of New Years Day to complete your build. Just announce before midnight Jan 1 that you're done, and then get a pic or two up in the next couple days and you're good. -
Guilty as charged! Nothing gets trashed but bare naked sprues. And sometimes not even those. Last year, I used a model car glass I've had since 1966 on a build. In 2019, I built a nice '65 Riviera using parts--everything but the body, in fact--since about the same time, and in 2018 I completed an IMC VW Beetle build I started around 1969 or 1970. This year I hope to use the Altered parts from that same kit for another build. I also hope to use a bunch of '64 Olds Cutlass parts (again, everything but the new resin body and hood) that I've had since maybe '67 or '68 on a full new build. Waste not, want not! Improvise, adapt, overcome! Model on! And GITTER DONE!

I've had good luck lately unwarping parts by putting them in the steam from a kettle for 8-10 seconds and then bending them the other way, just past center, for about 30 seconds. Experiment to see what works for you.

The one that's been sitting in my state since Dec 9 was sent to another city in my state at 4:17 this morning. The second city is about as far from me as the first city is. Oh well, at least it still exists, and it's apparently moving.

Some very cool stuff here! I especially like the S&M '65. I'm planning to build one of those myself; thanks for the inspiration! Model on!

Looks like many I've seen on TV--a real "Monday Night Special." Drive on!

Hey, I had another idea for a CB build (after I finish the Superbird). About 50 years ago, I started a Corvair with a mid-engine small block Chevy in it. I didn't get much farther than cutting out the hole in the floorpan for the engine, and rounding up an engine. The whole project is still in the box, which I think was the first reissue after the '69 annual. Thing is, the box art is a Yenko in full race trim on a race track of some sort. If I'm reading the rules correctly, the dedicated race art makes it legal for this build, right? Just want to get a get an up-or-down ruling on it before I even think of proceeding. Yes, I actually have this box.

I'm still waiting for two items from eBay, one bought Nov 27, the other bought Dec 2. One made it as far as my state on Dec 9, the other entered the state on Dec 26, still waiting. I sent ChrisBCritter a part he needed about two weeks ago, last I heard he hasn't gotten it yet, but I'm still confident that he will eventually. OTOH, I ordered a couple My Pillows the week before Christmas. To my enormous surprise, they arrived today. And surprisingly, they were delivered to my door. This is amazing because there are no mailboxes on my street; we all have to get our mail from the local PO. The pillows came by US Mail, with my PO box on the address, and somehow it got delivered to my door!

Well, I just let a JL Nova go on eBay. It would have cost me just over $40 with shipping. I decided I didn't want/need one that much. If I run into one at the local toy show for $20, maybe $25, I'll come home with it. Meanwhile, my JL '66 Nova, I generally like it, but am not a fan of the flame paint job. Someday I will disassemble and repaint it. If it's going to have flames, I think it needs MUCH bigger tires in the back and the rear end jacked up a bit.

I might be the last person on earth to do so, but last week I finally saw the original The Fast and the Furious. It was probably the third worst movie I've ever seen. There wasn't one believable thing in it. Not one believable character, car, bit of dialogue, plot point, or piece of action. Simply dreadful in every possible way. At least Baby Driver had one good car chase in it.

Interesting Comparisons
Snake45 replied to unclescott58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I always thought the Opel GT looked like a mini-Corvette. Back in the '70s, a friend had a green Celica like that one while I was driving a '69 Camaro. I always though his car looked like a mini-Camaro or mini-Mustang. -
Not remotely close to "stock," but you know what? With a suitably low-key paint job, I don't think it would attract undue attention. I've seen lots of weirder shapes on today's roads. I say go for it!

amt 1202 1/25 AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon - Craftsman Plus
Snake45 replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
"Don Steve's Chevrolet" and "Dyno...Nicholson" are red. The other lettering is black or perhaps a dark blue. Very hard to tell interior color. The steering wheel looks like it COULD be a medium/light blue, which I do believe was a standard interior color.- 599 replies

I can't wait to see what you do with this. I want to get this kit and "put it back on the street"--not necessarily Cannonball-worthy, but just barely street "legal" for some Saturday Night Fun. Hoping to steal some ideas from you.

According to the DD book, engine was a 360-hp 327 fuelie, ".060 overbore," Jardine headers, and so forth. Rear end was a full-size cut-down 4.56.- 599 replies

Now, to me, the JL roof looks like it's chopped about an inch. The roof line looks a lot better. Not sure about the shape of the rear fenders but I think it would look better with that stripe removed. I'm watching for one of these on eBay now, but I'm not gonna pay a LOT of money for one. And even then, only because I haven't found very many diecasts worth owning locally lately. At least the JL comes with some cool wheels. After I Snake-fu the spokes, they'll look great.

Thanks for posting those pics. To my eye the entire roof is wrong, as is the line of the rear fender. It's a shame we can't get a decent 3rd gen Nova in scale. The Revell kit has shape problems; the AMT has fit problems and the molds are shot, and it's not perfectly shaped either.

If there's a radio call, I'd think "HE'S DOING 150 FREAKING MILES PER HOUR!!!!!" would be all the identification anyone would need.

Yah, I think it was a 327, maybe a Corvette engine. The Dyno Don book has some details and a couple halfway decent pics of it.- 599 replies

AMT '65 Impala box art custom built with Revell kit
Snake45 replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Those are subtle changes but I see them! As soon as I finish my BOYD build Corvette, I need to dig out my Impala and get to work on it. Thanks for the reminder. -
Wait a minute. We have to go for stock appearance? I thought the original idea was "low profile." Makes a big difference in my paint job.
