Yeah, I just saw one like that on last week's Memphis Street Outlaws. I think it was a St. Louis car, I don't think it was one of MSO's.

I love this kinda stuff! Well done and model on!

Outstanding work, you done great! You know how much I love resurrected original survivors. I hereby bestow upon you the coveted title of Glue Bomb Hero! Model on!

Pretty cool!

Yah, I've seen it, but Tamiya paints aren't easy for me to get, and the few I've used have been a little more work than I really want to put into this thing. Was doing some research this morning. I've got a giant can of a metallic blue from Rustoleum, it's not quite light/bright enough for B5 but I might be able to pass it off as B7 Jamaican Blue. That would be fairly painless to do. Just remembered, I've got a jar of old Odds N Ends Metallic Blue that's kinda pretty and is in the B5 ballpark. Might fire up the airbrush and try that. (I've had mixed results airbrushing the Odds N Ends paints.) Hmmmmm.....

Good for him! I told him a year or two ago that there was a LOT of fun modeling to be done outside the small world of Cobras, and it looks like he's been taking that advice to heart. Drive on!

revell 55-57 chevy info needed
Snake45 replied to jeffdeoranut's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hmmmm, now you got me thinking. Start with the '56 Nomad body (upper body and roof) and then graft on the body sides and front clip from either the Revell '57 Bel Air 2DS or their '57 snapper? Just last night I was wondering how hard it would be to bash a '55 Sedan Delivery out of an AMT '55 Bel Air 2DS and a Nomad roof. I'll bet it could be done. -
1/24 tires on a 1/25 scale car.
Snake45 replied to porschercr's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Note that quite a few of the '80s-'90s Monogram "1/24" and Revell "1/25" cars had exactly the same size wheels, and tires could be swapped between them. I know this because among other things, I've used Monogram 1/24 tires on Revell 1/25 '68 Corvette wheels. -
Chevrolet Butternut Yellow?
Snake45 replied to Rbray47's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yah--to me, "light yellow" is light yellow. Back in the '90s I wanted to paint a couple models light yellow but none was available, so I started with Model Master Chrome Yellow and started adding white, right? How hard could it be? I found there was only so far you could go down this road before it started looking less yellow and more beige, so I had to add some yellow back in. Nowadays I'd just shoot one of the currently available Testor/Model Master light yellows for any of the mid-'60s yellows and call it good. And hope to be doing exactly that in the near future. -
Chevrolet Butternut Yellow?
Snake45 replied to Rbray47's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Testor now has a light yellow in the little bottles that's in the ballpark. If you're a rattlecanner, they have a light yellow lacquer called Bug Yellow. -
Probably the "baksheesh" was being negotiated and a proper fee was finally settled on.

I've seen a BUNCH of that at my Walmart the last few weeks, employees and shoppers alike. It's all I can do to keep from saying, "Are you somehow unclear on the concept?" I kind of get it, though. Getting tired of my glasses being fogged up by my own "exhaust."

Don't believe that "paint & primer in one" nonsense. Just marketing nonsense. At least as regards model work.
-
Your problem is probably that Krylon paint. You're asking a lot of it. Your results don't surprise me at all. Krylon wants primer, and then a couple coats of paint, and then will probably need to be rubbed/polished out. You CAN get a nice finish from a rattlecan of Krylon, but it's not just a matter of spraying it on and forgetting it. (There are very, very few paints you can do that with.) A good paint job is going to take a certain amount of work at both ends (i.e., before and after). If you can post a pic of what your model looks like now, maybe we can give you some advice on how to proceed.

I think it's authentic. See the links I posted. Looks like it wasn't the only thing of that kind back in the day, either!

Modelhaus made them, and I think I have a couple. And now I'll have (another) "real" one!

MPC '68 Impala glass replacement Found!!!
Snake45 replied to ranma's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Interesting! I have an AMT '67 convertible I might need a windshield for at some point. Cool project, BTW! Drive on! -
Just bought an original annual AMT '66 Corvette hood and roadster hard top off eBay. Price seemed a little stiff at first and then I realized that it wasn't much more than I'd have paid Modelhaus for repros of these two items, AND then I'd have had to pay MH shipping, which was never cheap (shipping on the ones I bought today was FREE!), and MH didn't even have the C2 Vette hard tops in their parts list for the last couple years they were in business, which of course they've been out of for a couple years now. When I did the mental arithmetic, I could hardly hit the BUY IT NOW button fast enough! The AMT '66 Vette hoods are particularly valuable because that's the only year that had the Corvette script on them. You NEED that hood even if you're trying to convert a common '63, or a less-common '65 or '67 to a '66.

My Walmart hasn't been out of paper towels once this whole time. Always plenty on hand. The problem is the packages look just like big packages of toilet paper if you're not paying attention.

The tin reminds me of Humbrol. Connection? -
Walmart had a small amount of toilet paper today for the first time I've seen in over 2 months! Also had my DiGiornio Three Meat Pizzas! Also had diet ginger ale for The Lovely Mrs. Snake! Had a couple other things they're often out of lately, too. And three new magazines to read (2 gun, I car)! AND no line at the checkout*, walked right up! It might have been my best trip to Walmart EVAH. *It seems like if I buy a magazine, the checkout line is short or nonexistant; if there's nothing to read this week, the shortest checkout line is behind three people apparently outfitting the Bolivian Army and paying with post-dated third-party checks drawn on Bulgarian banks. Ain't it always the way!
