Biggest pet peeves on builds.

Oh yeah. I've also likened it to stuck-on chewing gum wrapper. -

We didn't have computers in the '50s-'60s. We had bikes and models. I was pretty much exclusively an airplane modeler till I was almost 12. Then I got interested in cars (1966). -

I started building models at 5. I remember my first one, or one of the first, the Aurora 1/48 F95 Panther jet in dark metallic blue. I used WAY too much glue on the canopy and about half of it melted down into the fuselage. I'd started reading and writing at that time, and I wanted "Panther Jet" painted on the wings. I didn't know how to spell Panther (or maybe didn't think I could paint such a big word) so I asked the teenager next door to paint Panther on one wing and I painted JET on the other. In yellow. His was quite neat and you can imagine what mine looked like. Many years later I bought another copy of that ancient/classic kit, in the same box, and I still have it unassembled. -

Me too. It's the newer stuff that's going bad so fast. -

And, conversely, roadster pickups and other clearly ROD early trucks that get moved here down to the Truck section (which I never look at). -
Help ID-ing this car...
Snake45 replied to LouO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I blew the pic up four times and I still can't see a car. I might be seeing a wheel and tire. Maybe. Is that attached to a car? -
Now I REALLY need one of these. The January 2020 calendar car is an orange 2019, and I can't come close to matching either the Musclecar or Camaro January cars (although I have a blue '67 Shelby for the Mustang). Will be hitting at least one Rite-Aid this Sunday. Maybe two. Might have to break down and order one from DMW. I wonder if they come in orange?

Very nice, very cleanly built! I don't think I've ever seen one of these finished before. Well done and model on!

I feel ya, ma brotha, but at this point, I'd be happy if Testor could sell me a 1/4 oz bottle that wouldn't dry up, skin over, separate, or otherwise go bad before I've used even half of it! -

Put me down for that one. Well, not necessarily on the radiator, but elsewhere. I've seen many, many otherwise outstanding builds ruined by mold lines running up the quarter panel and roof/C-pillars. Colored plug wires on what are supposed to be "factory stock" builds. Tires with the molding seams running right through the middle of the treads. Chrome wheels left chrome that shouldn't be. And the description that goes, "...built right out of the box except for plug wires, fuel lines, photoetch emblems, resin hood, and aftermarket wheels/tires." In other words, not out of the box at all. And now one one me, in memory of our friend Harry P, whom we all dearly miss: No rearview mirrors. That's right, I almost never put them on (unless they're an integral part of the design) because they always get broken off and lost anyway. -
What’s the best 56 Chevy kit???

Revell Del Ray 2DS. Their Nomad is good, too. -
Best 1957 Chevy kit out there?
Snake45 replied to Mr.Zombie's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Agreed. It's a hardtop. Very accurate shape, easy assembly, what's not to like? -
Was at Dollar General yesterday and ran across a semi-interesting line of toy cars. They were a little too big to be 1/24-25 so I didn't buy any, but the bodies actually looked fairly nice--late model Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, maybe a couple others. I think they were only $5. Would make great Christmas presents for kids just a little too young for models, say 3-5 years. Not sayin' these are worth a special trip to DG, but if you just happen to be in or near one, might be worth a look. Just found them on the DG site. Called Rev Rollers, "assorted" variety. A Mustang is pictured. https://www.dollargeneral.com/rev-rollers-friction-powered-toy-car-assorted.html

December display: We finish out the year with: Calendar Mustang: ’68 GT Coupe in red. Diecast: Welly ’67 GT Fastback in red. Pretty close. Calendar Camaro: 2013 ZL1 in red. Model: Revell (prepainted) 2013 ZL1 in metallic red. Darn close!

Last summer my boss narrowly avoided death or serious bodily harm when a speeder essentially did a "felony stop" ram on her on a crowded highway at 70 mph. Her car of course was totalled. She replaced it with a Lexus SC420. I know jack-all about that car but found that a diecast was available from Jada, in black like hers. Several different wheels were offered, none like hers, but I picked the closest I could and ordered it off the net. When it came I Snake-Fu'ed it (including Dullcoating the flashy chrome wheels) and then presented it to her. She likes it so much she proudly displays it in her office, which makes me happy.

Revell 1968 Corvette Roadster. Done for box stock build-off
Snake45 replied to Dragonhawk1066's topic in Model Cars
Looks very, VERY good! One of the best acrylic craft paint jobs I've ever seen! (You could hit the backup lights with some white paint or something, though.) Well done and model on! -
I'm not quite as a bad a Paint Hoarder as you, LL3, but I definitely have the disease. I feel no compulsion to have "every color" in a line. But I DO stock up on colors that I commonly use, such as Black Chrome Trim, Glossy Sea Blue, ADC Gray 16473, Dark Gull Gray 36231, Turn Signal Amber, Stop Light Red, the various Model Master engine colors, and so forth.

My grandparents had a dark green Delta 88 2-door in dark green with a lime/avocado green vinyl top. Sharp car! I know it's not what you're looking for, but if avocado green vinyl was available, not too far out to imagine a dark brown might have been, too. Also, IIRC, the vinyl top had a "halo" border like a '69 Camaro.

I remember them. They were in either General Mills or Post cereals, something I didn't normally eat, but I ate a lot of whatever it was to get those. There were 1966 Mustangs. All three body styles, in three colors--red, pale yellow, and sky blue. I tried to collect all 9 but don't think I ever made it. I remember being disappointed on SEVERAL occasions by YET ANOTHER sky blue convertible, when I was trying to get a fastback. These were remarkably accurate and detailed for their small size, ruined only by their blobby white wheels. The next year they did Cougars. These were also very accurate and detailed, and now the wheels were black and more detailed (with wheel covers molded in), but a bit undersized.

Very cool! I'm now wishing I'd bought one of those when Ollie's had them for $10. But I already had another 1/24 diecast orange '69 Judge, so passed on it.

Kits Missing in Action - GM Muscle Era Intermediates Edition

I was going to suggest the Welly '70 GSX, and then I realized all three of these are '68s, not just '68-'72 A-bodies. Sorry, I can't help you. -
Oh stop whining. It looks great and you know it. Well done and model on!

"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
LL3, ever watch Forged in Fire on the History Channel? Four metalsmiths are given three hours to turn some chunk(s) of random steel into a working knife that will be put to several rigorous tests. Most of these knives aren't pretty at all, but most of them are entirely functional. That's what many of our BOYD models are like. Many of them got sentenced to the Shelf of Doom because we'd been building along on a "perfect" model and then something happened to ruin the perfect and we lost interest and momentum. The BOYD build provides us with a perfect excuse to parole these models from the SOD and "finish" them up, imperfect or flawed as they are. And I daresay that many of us have found this to be a fun and rewarding endeavor. I certainly have. So don't be afraid to present us with a flawed model. The whole idea is to cross the finish line. It doesn't matter if you're covered in sweat and your hair is mussed and your shoes have come untied. Just GITTER DONE! -
Thank you so much, Spencer. The kind words are especially meaningful coming from you.

You'll have to sand (or file) the superglue off. Limit the area as tight as you can. Then hit it with a spot of Hot Rod Primer. Hey, Batman has to drive through the bad part of town every now and then, same as the rest of us. Stuff happens. Or I could offer you a couple Coke decals?
