A reminder for all you Hot Rod model builders.....
Snake45 replied to tim boyd's topic in Model Cars
Wow. I showed my '68 Elky glue bomb rescue here, no problem. I've also seen several Falcon Rancheros here that I can recall. -
Straighten up your headlights and you're good to go. Well done and model on!
-
Looks great. One of the nicest builds of this kit I've ever seen. Drive on!

Removing lettering from a diecast
Snake45 replied to junkyardjeff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I use paper napkins, folded over to two or three thicknesses, and switch to a fresh section for every swipe. -
I gotcher back on this, my brother. Fabulous airplane in many ways, but definitely NOT a pretty one.
-
I just dropped the interior into the Purple Pool so we'll see what happens. Meanwhile, the rest of it is in much worse shape than it looks like from the pictures. But I'll press on with the quickie plan anyway and see how it looks.

They allow El Caminos/Rancheros here, don't they? -
"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here’s what I’ll be working on for BOYD Round 4. Revell ’69 Camaro snapper: Started around 2014 (maybe even before) painted and polished out about this time last year and not worked on since. All it needs is final detailing and assembly, but the hangup has been modifying the kit’s inaccurate RS grille into something more acceptable. After several hours of tedious work, it’s not quite half done. If I can’t get that thing finished by deadline time, I’ll just swap in a standard grille from a glue kit and drive on. ’57 Chevy snapper: Again, started around 2014 or maybe a few years before. I’ve removed all the chrome and candy from the body except for the iconic side spears and plan to shoot it in semigloss black primer. The hangup is I need to mask off the window and spear chrome trim, which has been airbrushed Testor Chrome Silver, which is a job I have been dreading and putting off for years now. Time to drive on. AMT ’65-’66 Corvettes: Been playing with all three of these for several years, though haven’t really worked on them in many months now. I’m gonna try to get AT LEAST one of them done this round. The ’65 with the hard top will be built as a street freak with a 6-71 coming through the hood. Next to that is a ’65 body that’s being built as a road racer using all kit race parts from a ’66 kit. The one in back is a ’66 that will be built as a box-stock custom. The idea with the last two is to do them exactly as someone might have built these kits in 1965-66, using only kit parts with the possible exception of the tires. -
Yup. They don't look perfect installed correctly, either.
-
That's not horrible for aftermarket bodies. I ordered three from them late last year and had them in two or three weeks, which I thought was pretty good. The bodies themselves were also pretty nice.
-
I think I've talked myself into it. Will try to get it broken down and cleaned up tonight. I can't deal with that gold interior, so something will have to be done about that. Will probably give it a swim in Lake Purple and see what it looks like underneath. Hmmmmm.

I think your taillights are reversed/upside down, but otherwise, a nice clean build--about as well as this old crock of a kit can be built out of the box. Well done and model on!

Agree completely. Rods should be here in the cars sections. -
I just got this glue bomb original AMT '65 Mustang HT in black that needs to be rebuilt (it's WAY past being suitable for "rescue."). It might make a suitable candidate for a memorial build. Actually, come to think of it, it MIGHT be suitable for a quickie "rescue" rebop. The bare spots could be touched up with a black paint Sharpie, and it might not look half bad until I can find the time to give it the full rebuild it deserves.

part 2 How to fix clear coat issue
Snake45 replied to DDD's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
One other downside of this plan is that you will have several hours of careful and tedious work in it. Claude's plan will work just fine, but IMHO you'd be WAY ahead to just drop the thing in a tub with $1 worth of rubbing alcohol for a couple hours (maybe as much as 24, maybe much quicker than that) and strip it back to bare plastic and start over. And if I might offer one other piece of advice: Apparently you don't have any problems (health, environmental, moral, etc.) with using the Testor WLC lacquer (neither do I), so why mess around with that acrylic that's giving you such problems? Get a can of Model Master Nassau Blue lacquer, which is very close to the color you're using (and metallic to boot) and sprays magnificently. Lay on one or two coats of that, then two or three coats of the WLC, and I think you'll have a MUCH easier time getting a great polished out finish. Just sayin'.... -
And you just happened to pick the Most Beautiful variant of it there, the late-war N model. Sweet! N-Bolt, Bearcat, late Corsair, Sea Fury: They're all beautiful to me. They were also the ULTIMATE prop-driven fighters. Fully mature technology. End of the line.
-
Ah! No wonder I didn't recognize it. Never shot one of those. .44 Mag is as big as I go. (A man's got to know his limitations.)
-
Very clean, very nice! Well done and model on!

I take great offense at this. At times? I work very hard at being moody 24/7/365. -
Can't argue with the Corsair. My vote for Most Beautiful variant goes to the R4360-powered F2G. Just pure badass!
-
Thanks! They do nice work. I'll check it out.

Asked and answered: If that wasn't good enough for you, or not what you wanted to hear, I'll shut up and MMOB now. Snake out. -
The Spitfire on my Most Beautiful list would be the Spit 24. Or at least a bubbletop XIV or 18.
