  1. Sweet! Seeing it in that color jangled loose some kind of memory. I think I guy in my dorm in college ('70s) drove a Vega in that color.
  2. I was just rereading some old car mags and there was a story in one about a factory-custom '68 or '69 Charger roadster they built for some exec. It was white, and other than the missing top, seemed to be pretty much stock. ETA: Found a pic of it online.
  3. I'm also guessing the kit inside is fine, but if it's not and you can't get satisfaction, let me know. I bought this kit just to cut the wheel openings out of it to graft into an AMT '66 dirt tracker, so if your top is squashed, I'll be happy to swap bodies with you.
  4. Dunno, but one could build a whole spider-themed rod around that thing!
  5. You must be a youngster. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I saw a Vega on the road. Probably not in this century. The last Vega I can DEFINITELY remember was, in the early '80s I dated a girl whose brother was a serious gearhead who had a hot rod one with a heavily built SBC in it. Never saw it on the street but it was complete and I have no doubt it was running.
  6. Fabulous find--I'm envious. The rear glass is flat and no trouble to replace. For the windshield, look for glass from '64-'67 Chevelles, GTOs, or Olds 4-4-2--whatever you have laying around. Worse comes to worst, it's a simple curve and shouldn't be too difficult to scratchbuild. Remember, the two thin upraised strips running down the side of the body are NOT chrome trim. After you've painted, just color-sand and/or polish over these ridges and you will expose a perfect pair of thin white pinstripes--factory correct!
  7. All Douglas A/B-26 Invaders are beautiful IMHO, but the most beautiful of all of them is the On Mark B-26K Counter Invader in the early COIN Green/Coin Gray scheme:
  8. I'm doing essentially the same thing to move the door forward on one and get rid of a horrendous gap. I'm basically just putting the hole where I need it to be, not where it is now.
  9. Agree completely. Year or so ago I bought at the local toy show a Vega and a Monza, both slightly "distressed" but VERY restorable/workable, and I didn't pay over $20 for either one.
  10. All three of them were pretty airplanes, especially for the late '40s-early '50s timeframe.
  11. After another 48 hours in the Purple Pond, about 90% of what was left of the gold paint came off the '65 Mustang interior. There are still a few random spots of gold here and there in the seat "seams," but I think I can just scrape them off with an Xacto point. I don't know why gold paint is so hard to strip. I'm also trying to get gold off a '65 Falcon AWB. 24 hours in the Pond took off about 20% of it, and another 48 hours didn't do a thing. I have it soaking in alcohol now to see if that will do anything. Luckily this paint is very, very thin (almost looks like a stain on the plastic) so it shouldn't interfere with ultimately painting it.
  12. Saw another one today with the same crummy paint problems, and this one had a big paint booger right on top of the left front fender to boot. I'll wait for a good one to come along.
  13. It looks horrible on any post -64 Corvette. I watched the show and enjoyed it. I see what they were trying to do with the split window (it was the 30th Anniversary Corvette and was meant to commemorate iconic features of the previous three generations), but they didn't do it well. IMHO the split bar should have been a bit thinner, and all the corners of the glass rounded off more. THAT would have greatly improved the thing. I like that they peaked the fender in homage to the C3, but they didn't go far enough with this. They should have peaked and "bulged" them even more. it would have looked better with a more '73-ish grille/bumper on it, too.
  14. I'd be down for one. Planning to do a series of Dyno Don models.
  15. Sounds like a truck question. Maybe you can ask it down in the Truck section.
  16. Here ya go. I think the assend of the thing might be shorter than stock.
  17. I've seen these a couple times. I like the car and model and I love the color BUT every one I've seen has paint issues--looks like a candy paint that ran and built up around sharp edges. If I ever run across one that's the same color all over, I'll buy it.
  18. Hi Robert and welcome! I have one of the big '67 Mustangs and would love to see what's available for it, but I'm not on facebook and so can't see your group. Could you post some pics of available wheels/tires here? Thanks!
  19. I just picked up a very rebuildable builtup of one of these a few months ago. The short length is absolutely absurd for a '70s funny car, BUT there is something very appealing about it anyway. I'm thinking of trying to swap in an injected or even carbureted small-block and call it an Altered or even a bracket racer. I might even see what kind of second body might fit on it, like a Fiat or something of that sort.

    29 Model A

Wow, there's a lot going on here! Not all of it is to my liking, but there's no denying the imagination, creativity and craftsmanship in this build. And I have to admit, I like the overall "sit" and profile of the thing VERY much. Well done and model on!
  21. Not bad overall, but a bit disappointing to see the same me-too "catfish mouth" front end that's on EVERYTHING these days. It would have been nice to see some originality in this area.
  22. I liked this one too, and it didn't take much Snake-Fu to get on the shelf:
