If this one comes with the same wheels & tires of the original, I'll buy another one.

Look at how popular the "outlaw"/No Prep cars are. They're anything but stock underneath, but they're instantly recognizable as different makes and models. And there's (comparatively speaking) a wide variety of makes and models, too, just about anything from '55 Chevies up can show up--and be competitive.

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Snake45 replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Got my latest airgun yesterday, the Umarex Legends P.08 (Luger). Shot it for the first time this morning. A bit disappointing. Two reviews I read said this gun had a nice trigger pull (3 and 4 pounds), but mine seems to be more like 7 pounds. Pretty crisp/clean, though. The sights aren't as good as my other airguns, but they are historically accurate/correct (pointed front post, V-notch rear). It shoots about 1.5" to the left at basement range--I went back and saw in one of the reviews, his shot to the left almost exactly the same amount. And it only got 53 shots on a CO2 cartridge, vs the 60 that my other three CO2 airguns get. On the plus side, they got the shape and weight exactly right, and the blowback action worked perfectly--it functioned every time. Hey, where you gonna buy a shootable Luger for $150 these days? In short, I like it, but don't love it. It won't be in heavy shooting rotation, but I'll shoot it whenever I get in the mood to shoot a Luger. (Hey, you never know when these moods will hit you.) Here's what it looks like: https://www.pyramydair.com/product/legends-blowback-p08-co2-pistol-full-metal?m=3485#6728 -
Very nice! Well done and model on!

Pretty slick! Sure looks better than the Pinto coupes. Well done and model on!

I'm ahead of you for a change! Got all three gunzines last week and have already read them. Particularly enjoyed Dr. Dabbs' piece on building a fake mini-M21, and the Guns & Bullets writeup on the new Springfield Armory SA-35.

I have just written a new Beatitude: "Blessed are the paranoid, for they shall eventually be proved right."

Thanks for the headsup on the tires. I checked them. They're installed on the wheels, and there doesn't seem to be any burn. No spy goodies in this one, but it does have a usable girl figure. The tires are unlike anything I've ever seen from MPC. Come to think of it, so's the rest of the construction. Was this originally an Airfix kit?

I can hear Carlin doing this routine. Also Seinfeld. Also Brian Regan.

Last week I got a call from the electric company (she actually said she was from a "contractor of the electric company") saying they wanted to give me a bunch of energy-saving light bulbs, a low-flow showerhead, and maybe some other energy-saving "stuff," and everything was already paid for due to some tax I was already paying on my electric bill every month. Wanted to set up an appointment, the guy would make delivery outside, wouldn't have to come in my house. Well, okay. The appointment hour came, the guy was actually a few minutes early. Nice kid. He had a big bag of goodies and put on shoe coverings and was wearing a mask. I invited him to step on in for a minute. At this point he said he needed to physically change all my light bulbs himself. I told him the lady on the phone told me the products would be delivered outside, he wouldn't even come in. He said, "Yeah, that's been changed, now I have to install them all myself." I said, "Well, that's not gonna happen, so I guess we're done here." He picked up the bag and left without arguing. Very nice about the whole thing. I'm now thinking this was some sort of scam. I'll bet if I'd let him change all the light bulbs, I'd have then been presented with a bill for the "service call" even though the stuff was "free." Or I'd have been asked to sign something that would have turned out to be a bill of some kind. The more I think about it, the more I think it was a straight-up scam. Anyone else have anything like this happen?

I just picked up one of the Revell 1/24 "street" Cobras in red. Needs a little TLC/Snake-Fu. Maybe not the star of the show, but worth every penny of the $5 I spent on it.
-
Love the '67 GS. But if they want to sell one to me, they need to make it in 1/24-1/25. I'll even take 1/26-1/27 like a couple of the Wellys are.

VERY nice, you should be proud of this one! Well done and model on!

Local toy show day. Got a couple goodies. Some kind of Ferrari diecast I hadn't seen before for just $12. ETA: It's a Maisto F430, looks like a 2005 to 2007 model. Diecast Cobra I hadn't seen before. A little beat up, needs some paint touchup. Seems to be a 427, not a 289, but also seems to be smaller than other 1/24 427 Cobras, more the size of the AMT 260, but not as small as 1/32. A true 1/25 427? Oh well, only $5, I can easily have that much fun with it. If it turns out to be a turd, hey, the grandkids always need new cars to play with when they come over. ETA: Just sneaked it into the house for a quick look. It's by Revell, and it does seem to be 1/24. Still pretty cool, as I didn't have one. AMT Silhouette custom "project" in a baggie. Either glue-bombed and disassembled, or started and never finished, I'm not sure. MIGHT be a complete kit in there, but who knows till I can inventory it. Vendor wanted $12 for it, I offered $5 for it as a parts bag, he accepted. Box of AMT '63 Nova project. Supposed to be everything for at least one model in the box, and there's TWO complete, fairly clean convertible bodies. Not a fan of convertibles but I've got a bare '63 HT body that needs everything else to complete it. One of the ragtop bodies can be bashed with a Rat Packer to un-alter the wheelbase, the other might make good swap fodder. Vendor asked $40 for the mess and I didn't even argue with him--the lot would have gone for more than that on eBay and then there's shipping. Looking forward to digging into this one. And the crown gem of the day, the MPC Toyota 2000 GT kit in a bag, started a little but many/most parts still on the sprues, body never painted. All the important body parts including the windshield seem to be there. Vendor swears he checked it against the instructions and it's complete. Price was a whopping--get ready for it---$12! Couldn't beat that deal with a stick.

Paint-How much is enough??
Snake45 replied to TransAmMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
MM Arctic Blue is one a VERY few metallic paints I've found that can be polished directly (without clearcoating). For some reason, it just works. -
Very cool! My diecast C5 collection is pretty thin.

There were hard-plastic ones in some old AMT kits, I think some of the AWB funny cars. -
Paint-How much is enough??
Snake45 replied to TransAmMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It depends--on the paint, on the color, on whether I'm planning to polish it or not, whether I'm planning to clear it or not, the temperature, the humidity, phase of the moon, day of the week, etc. etc etc. Painting is as much an art as a science (maybe more so), and there's no substitute for experience. -
Yeah, I did it as a kid too. My Dad brought it home for me from one of his trips. He didn't do that often. Only other one I remember him bringing me was the 1/48 Hawk U-2. That's now a rare kit because they changed the molds to make the C version. I'm looking forward to building the B-52/X-15 as a sort of tribute to Dad.
-
Well, y'all made me do it: I just ordered two Mooneyes direct from Atlantis (and the B-52 w/X-15). Didn't want to wait for it to POSSIBLY show up SOMEDAY at Hobby Lobby, and then be beat out of it about 9:01 on Monday morning of 40% off kits week....

You can make a Profit
Snake45 replied to Boss31's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
About 10 years ago I took on a commission job of a model of a guy's '56 Chevy hot rod. He supplied the kit and I had all the materials on hand, so, no whipout at all. The paid price was $250. I didn't keep an accurate account of time but I'd be amazed if I made $10 an hour. It was welcome at the time because I was unemployed and could use the money. -
How about putting the short one on a Meyers Manx frame and making a dune buggy/kit car out of it?

The Getaway is a true classic and one of the best "gun movies" of all time. I saw it again last year for the umpteenth time. Still enjoyable after all these years!
-
I do believe you are correct. Go for it, and let us see how nice you can make it! Model on!
-
Preserve it as-is, get the new one, and do it again as a "Then-and-Now" build. I'm now looking forward to this kit. Should be fun to do a straight-up "custom" build of the thing with no worries about rivet counting or trying to match factory colors. You know, just like how we all built them when we were kids!
