Dave Strickler's 60 Corvette Old Reliable Jr.
Snake45 replied to 59 Impala's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I could be wrong, but the lettering looks blue to me, especially in the second picture. -
If I were in your shoes, I'd grab any kind of matte, semigloss, or flat rattlecan that was handy (I have some Krylon on hand, for example), and lay a mist coat or two on. Maybe three or four mist coats. In my experience, laying many of these paints on "wet" or too heavy results in them drying too glossy, or fogged/milky, or with the flattening agent clumping and collecting into white spots or streaks. Light coats should work for you fine.

Yah, the PM system here doesn't work for me for some reason. Just email me at SnakeACP45 at AOL dot com

Magnificent! Gotta love that Gulf scheme. Prolly my alltime favorite 1G Ford GT. Well done and model on!

Looking good! I'm watching with interest. Few years ago I got this toy Miura for a couple bucks, it looks like it's right around 1/24-1/25 scale and I've been looking for some inspiration of something to do with it. First job will be to find some appropriate-looking wheels and tires. Drive on with yours!

Street Outlaws, Fastest in America

Two drivers did, moving up 7 spots each. Won't ruin it for you by saying who but you probably have a good idea on at least one. -
Street Outlaws, Fastest in America
Snake45 replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I only started watching Street Outlaws around 2016 or 2017, so I've never seen the early seasons. I've watched everything worth watching on every streaming service available to me for free, and just discovered (no pun intended) that I can watch all seasons of SO on DiscoveryGo, and have started doing so. I'm already a few episodes into Season 2. Here's some cool things I've learned. I've come to dislike both Chuck and Doc over the last couple years, turns out my instincts are right on both of them. They are both "family men," supposedly, with wives and children, but both of them claim that they have missed multiple house payments to pour money into their race cars. That's low-class, dirtbag behavior in my book. I became a fan of Flip. Was sorry to see that he passed, much too soon. I'd seen Jackie Knox in a few episodes, but didn't realize that he'd been Daddy Dave's sugar daddy with the Sonoma. I think DD was already driving his 1G Nova when I came in. Ryan Martin doesn't show up until Season 2 Ep 1, where he is very briefly seen as one of the "road security" crew whose job is to alert the racers that the cops are coming. In Ep 2, he's seen as one of Freakin' Rican's crew, but his name hasn't been mentioned yet. Looking forward to learning more about all these jokers! -
I saw something cool yesterday, July 4th......

I saw my first Osprey last week. Thought it was a helicopter, close, and went out to look. Osprey. What it was doing around here, I have NO idea. -
Any up dates on the Moebius chevy II gasser ?
Snake45 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
From what I've seen, it looks close enough to me. I'll be buying at least one of each--maybe more. Maybe MANY more. -
Looking VERY good! I started a similar project about 10 years ago. Here's as far as I got with it before another shiny squirrel ran into view. I should dig it out for a BOYD build one of these days. Good luck with yours--you'll no doubt beat me finished. Drive on!

Aluminum paint for mag wheels
Snake45 replied to Steamboat's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've been having some luck with Folk Art acrylic "high hide matte finish" Brushed Pale Silver. How I miss the old Pactra little bottle Flat Aluminum. This is about as close as I've come. -

An A-10 just flew over my house. Didn't even have to look out the window or leave the computer to know it--nothing else in the sky makes that distinctive whistle/whine. -
I wanna grow up and be a weatherperson.......
Snake45 replied to HomerS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I've found as good a way as any to predict the weather is to look at the map or radar, and pay attention to what's happening two states to the west. Whatever's happening there today, will be happening here tomorrow 90% of the time or more. -
ACE! Where ya been? Haven't seen you around here in FOREVER! Welcome home!

Oh hellz yessss!

Fabulous work! I think you are a strong contender for "Polished Turd of the Year" award! VERY well done and model on!

Most of the big banks are getting dooshier by the day. I worked for CitiBank from early 2013 to late 2018, almost five full years. When I first started it was a GREAT place to work, they really took care of their people and encouraged them to enjoy the job and have a lot of fun. And it was that way for almost four years. The last year became increasingly hellish with every day that passed; they raised production quotas to unrealistic levels and let quality go completely to hell, ironically while measuring "quality" by completely meaningless and nonsensical standards, and it seemed that they were trying to stamp out any job enjoyment or fun anywhere they could find some. Morale dropped below zero. By the time my department was laid off in late 2018, every one of us was glad to be out of there. (Quite a few had taken opportunities to bail early, as we all knew it was coming.)

Arnie Beswick 64 GTO drag car
Snake45 replied to Nitrobarry's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I investigated the PL '64 GTO some time ago and concluded that it wouldn't look too bad if the C-pillars of the roof were corrected, a relatively easy fix. OTOH, the Monogram GTO is a 2DS body, which is what the Mystery Tornado was. If you go with the PL, you'll have to scratchbuild all the window framing all around on both sides (and it's a lot more than just posts at the doors). Like you, I favor 1/25, so if I wanted to do this car, I'd go with the PL and make the necessary mods. (The proper engine equipment will probably be easier to find in 1/25, too.) But if you don't want to mess with the needed mods, the Monogram might work better for you. -
Walmart had almost nothing today, but they DID have two M2 '70 Challengers--metallic blue (B5?) T/As with dog dish hubcaps. They looked really nice, but I didn't get one because I already have one 1/24 '70 Challenger (a JL in Sub Lime), a diecast 1/25 (my preferred scale) Welly Challenger R/T in the same metallic blue color, and am just about to start "rescuing" not one but two Monogram T/A Challengers. If not for those factors, one would have definitely followed me home, because they looked good.

I believe it. The BoA idiot on the phone asked my teller to put me on, then asked me all kinds of questions including my home address (okay, understandable), the nearest cross street (WTF?) and "a recent car you have owned or leased" (WTWTF???? ). Eventually he asked me for my drivers license number. Finally I said to him, "You DO realize that I'm not gonna actually take all this money over to my house, don't you? But if you were planning to show up and rob me, Come On Down, 'cause I am TOTALLY set up to deal with THAT scenario." This cracked my teller up.

"Holy Grail" Models?
Snake45 replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you look carefully, that's not a 230TE the steel beam falls on, it's a clapped-out old Taurus station wagon. -
I'm sure this guy would have just left it, too, but I happened to see the truck pull up through the front room window and met him outside, as I knew exactly what he had. Come to think of it, he didn't walk up my driveway and sidewalk, he walked straight across the middle of my lawn. They must have those guys on a RUSH! RUSH! RUSH! schedule.

N1K1 for sure--that is one hella cool looking floatplane! It might interest you that back in the early '90s, I saw the world's only remaining Seiran about halfway through its restoration at the Smithsonian NASM's Silver Hill shop facilities. I'd never heard of the thing before, but the story of the submarine-borne floatplane was absolutely compelling!

Went to the bank today to do what should have been a simple transfer of funds between accounts. Not entirely routine, but shouldn't have been a HUGE problem. Evidently it was--it took over an hour. Fortunately I took a magazine to read during the slow periods. Luckily the place was otherwise empty and I used the opportunity to make light of the situation with the tellers and manager. For example, I noticed my teller had the title "Universal Banker" on his cards and nameplates. The snag came with dealing with Bank of America. I eventually said, "Well, there's the problem. You're a UNIVERSAL Banker. This jamoke's a Bank of AMERICA banker. He's not on your level. He's not a Galactic Banker, or a Solar System banker, or even a World Banker, he's just a lowly peon Bank of America NATIONAL Banker. No wonder he can't keep up with this deal!" That got a laugh. When it finally went through, I told my guy, "Look at the bright side: Whoever you're having dinner with tonight, you're gonna have a GREAT story to tell them." "Yeah that's true" he laughed. Oh well, eventually we GOTTER DONE. I think. Oh yes, I kept all the receipts.
