  1. As I see it, the AI algorithms are workings perfectly! The problem is that the AI is not "smart" enough to distinguish between plastic scale models and human models, or drag races vs. drag queens. Maybe once quantum computers become more mainstream, the AI will start doing a better job.
  2. The most comfortable vehicle for getting in and out, and with lots of headroom was my 2006 Scion xB (wagon). The seat cushion's height was almost at a height of a home chair, and the car was low to the ground, so getting in was very easy. The door was large enough, and forward enough not to interfere with getting in and out. it also had plenty of headroom. I miss that car. My current 2019 KIA Soul (while similar to the xB in size) is nowhere as easy to get in and out.
  3. While I'm not a fan of self-driving cars, I also have to remind folks here that Tesla's auto-pilot feature has nowhere near the number of sensors or artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities of a true self-driving autonomous vehicles. The owners try to use if for more that its capabilities, often with disastrous results. So the blame here is mostly on the humans misusing the technology.
  4. While I don't use this stuff for stripping paint, or for cleaning resin and plastic model parts, I am sure I read it (probably most likely on this forum) that Westley's has changed formula several years ago and the "new" formula sucks (less potent than the original). Of course there is probably no way to tell which one you use (original or new). http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/94554-westleys-bleche-white/?do=findComment&comment=1281491 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/143818-preparing-resin-parts-soak-in-simple-green/?do=findComment&comment=2110063
  5. Person who has no idea of the model's value. This happens too often on eBay, but it is not my money . . .
  6. Sanding? Yuck! Why make my modeling more difficult that it has to be? If I had to do all the sanding and polishing you guys all do to get a decent surface finish, I would quit the hobby. I skip the primer altogether whenever I can. If I can sand the body smooth, and use plastic compatible paints (like Testors), I shoot it directly on plastic. No polishing afterwards either. If I do have to use primer, I would never use grainy primer. Tamiya Fine Surface primer is nice and smooth. I seem to recall that Alclad also has a smooth primer). Then I shoot the color over unmolested primer for a nice smooth surface finish.
  7. There are examples where we *ARE* becoming too dependent (or even addicted) on modern technology. Just look at the kids walking home from school: each kid in the group has their nose in their smart phone, with the thumbs tapping feverishly. What ever happened to the in-person live conversation with the friend walking next to you? Or people walking into all sorts of trouble (off the cliff, into a fountain, into a ditch, or crash their car killing someone), because of their smart-phone addiction? Or people solely depending on all those safety gadgets in their cars, not paying any attention to their driving. Yes, lots of new technology is very good, but only if used judiciously. And plenty of people out there fail to do that. I can't wait to see what happens when Amazon and others start drone deliveries. That should make a great shooting gallery for bored kids.
  8. Thanks for this info - few years ago I looked for this kit in eBay. There were very few showing up, and the prices were way too high. I usually deal with HLJ, but they were out of stock, so I just ordered it from HobbySearch.
  9. ROTFLMAO! If we don't stop, I'm going to pee myself!
  10. You use "ppl"?! LOL! Thanks for a good chuckle Kurt! Apostrophe misuse is rampant (and it has been even before the computer revolution and the Internet). http://www.apostropheabuse.com/ for some, laughts (eye-rolls, and maybe a good cry too). https://www.grammar-monster.com/punctuation/apostrophe_misuse.html https://hamilton.edu/academics/centers/writing/seven-sins-of-writing/4 https://letseatgrammar.com/apostrophe-misuse-101/ And many many other e xamplpes if you do a Google search for "apostrophe misuse".
  11. Sure Tom, but sometimes languages can "devolve" too. "Ppl"? Really? Poor punctuation and grammar? True, we do not speak old English from the days of Shakespeare, but what people use in text messages (and what is slowly is creeping into the mainstream language), doesn't seem like a positive development.
  12. Yes, a regular keypad really needs to be there. But the original photo does not show that there is a regular keypad on that ATM. @89AKurt would have to chime in and tell us if that new ATM also has a regular keypad.
  13. I still don't see it. Even with voice descriptions, how would they be guided with a smooth touch screen? Plus even if they touched the screen, that could trigger some unwanted selection.
  14. This seems like typical grammar used while texting. I don't like it either. English language is evolving, but not in a good way. Everything is rushed. For example, no time to type "people". At least this person attempted some punctuation and capitalization - I have seen it much worse. But yes, that person's grammar leaves lots to be desired. As far as the dollar sign being placed after the amount, that is how it is spoken. You don't say "dollars thirteen", but "thirteen dollars", so the author of that message likely just wrote it the way it is spoken, without really thinking. I don't think it has anything to do with the way the currency symbol follows the amount in a written text in other countries. Actually, in other parts of the world they sometimes use syntax without the dollar symbol. Like "13,00 USD". Yes commas are often used instead of periods outside of the U.S.
  15. There are several "blind driveway" or "hidden driveway" traffic signs in my neighborhood. yes, that indicates that the person trying get out of the driveway has no good visibility of the road. What I find odd is that there are Braille labels on that ATMs only "physical" buttons when in order to make a transaction all the other buttons are "soft" or "virtual" buttons on the flat smooth touch screen. Ignoring the fact that a driver would likely not be blind (one would hope so), the blind person would not have any way to complete the transaction.
  16. Well, it if flies then is it really an automobile (car)?
  17. Nice job on those rims (hoops). Very clever marriage of kit's plastic centers and custom made aluminum rims. I've owned Sheline lathe for over 30 years, and it comes in very handy for many modeling (and other) tasks. About 10 years agoI also bought Sheline mill, and that is also very useful tool. Both American made, and fully supported by the manufacturer (spare parts, and accessories).
  18. Heating any stripping solution will increase its potency. But if too hot, it might cause damage or warping. Whenever the question of strippers comes up, I usually mention that fact.
  19. I love how you are gently trolling us Casey. Likey, likey.
  20. I think self-driving cars could be doable if *ALL* the vehicles on the roads were self-driving. The mix of human-driven and self-driving vehicles seems like it is doomed to failure. Humans are too unpredictable. But that is not a future I'm looking forward too. Thankfully, I'll probably leave this planet before that happens.
  21. Thanks for doing that David. Did you contact the moderators requesting for the thread to be temporarily unlocked for editing, then they locked it back up?
  22. That is the problem with externally hosted photos. Thankfully, after the Photobucket debacle moderators welcomed uploading all the photos to the forum site. That will assure that the photos do not disappear from any threads. Some members with missing photos in their threads also wanted to edit the old posts to either upload photos to replace the missing photos, or update links to the externally hosted photos, but since posts are now locked after couple of days, that was not really a workable solutions. But at least if members who create new threads upload their photos here, they will last as long as the forum does.
  23. True, headband magnifiers are just another type of eyeglasses. But +1.25 is a bit weak. They are usually stronger. Probably more like +2.50 or more. Yes, you will likely have to get your eyes closer to the model to get it in focus, but that is how the headband magnifiers work.
  24. Please delete - got confused by the new forum layout (and the hidden "edit post" button), but where the "quote" button is readily visible (and easy to click on).
  25. Force's procedure is a good one. As far as gap fillers go, use the same stuff you would use for filling gaps or sink marks on a model car body. Modeler's putty (any brand), 2-part Bondo filler, CA glues, filler made from the parts tree runner chips dissolved in liquid cement or MEK, etc. Whatever your favorite method is. I understand that the top gap will not be visible on a finished model, but it sure is visible on the "beauty shots" you took. I always make sure make sure that any part of the model that will be photographed is properly finished. Whenever building any model sub-assembly, try to compare it to the 1:1 version to see what it should look like (things like texture, color and everything else). That is what will make your model look most realistic.
