Reducing Paints and Clears?
SfanGoch replied to SCRWDRVR's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Better grab it soon. Testors has discontinued the entire Aztek line, paints/airbrushes/accessories. -
It's just the Polar Lights kit relabeled as AMT.

Nah, I'm good. I was impressed with what looked like a warehouse full of kits in the background of one of your pictures.

(seemingly) Same kits, different scales
SfanGoch replied to Jim H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
This was originally released by Monogram in 1965. It's 1/24 scale, not 1/25. Never mind. Long day already. -

He didn't because it ain't happening. This rumor was debunked here: The only paints being discontinued are Model Master International Military & Figure Enamels and Aztek acrylics.

Lighting a display box for a model
SfanGoch replied to OldNYJim's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
EL panels, tape and wire emit almost zero heat. For certain hobby applications, like sci-fi spacecraft, it can't be beat. I'm going to use EL panels and tape in my Moebius Jupiter 2 kits. -

Moebius out of modeling? (short answer: no)
SfanGoch replied to Reegs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
"Moebius out of modeling?" If that is what some are led to believe, this is a myopic viewpoint. Even if Moebius ceased future production of automotive kits and continued with its sci-fi range, it's still in the business. Just not producing what some would prefer. -

Cracking and crazing paint saga
SfanGoch replied to Jamese30's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Testors ELO takes off every kind of paint and primer. I've been using it for years. Brush it on, but do not immerse the parts. It starts working in about 20 minutes. The paint begins to lift and you can use a toothbrush to scrub it off. Once the paint is removed, wash the part with dishwashing liquid in warm water. -
best knife for cutting holes in panels
SfanGoch replied to fiatboy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Get a set of dedicated scribes and saw blades. X-acto blades are too thick to obtain a narrow cut. HQT Tools makes stainless scribe and saw sets. The kerf is only .3 mm, which will allow a precise, tight fit of the new panels. The sets are available from UMM-USA for seven bucks each. Unlike No. 11 blades, the scriber tips don't break off in the middle of a cut and don't get dull. -
