Well great...my basement is flooded....
SfanGoch replied to disabled modeler's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Yeah; but, you said that you stored all of the the instructions, decals and other perishable items in the garage to prevent possible water damage. I don't understand why you would go against your own reasoning and put that stuff in the basement. That's counterproductive and defies logic. You have to take the hit for using bad judgement. -
What era Halibrand wheels ?
SfanGoch replied to Jon Haigwood's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Ted Halibrand first produced his magnesium wheels for Indy cars in 1946. So, you can go forward from that date. -

I gotta be honest with you, man. I'm perplexed. Why would you put all of those instructions, boxes and other items susceptible to water damage in your basement? I remember you telling somebody a couple years ago that you've been storing those items in your garage, specifically to preclude something like this from occurring. You should have kept them stored there and avoided this mess altogether. Hindsight is always 20/20, I guess. -

Where in the world did you keep all that modeling stuff that it was torn up by the tornado, in your yard? Just kidding; but your place must've taken a beating. -

Like David said. Definitely an interesting subject. Tom, take a gander at Schoolbus Yellow. -
Bummer. My friends and I saw him numerous times in the mid-late '70s at The Bottom Line in The Village, My Father's Place in Roslyn, NY, Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ, and the Schaefer Music Festival in Central Park.

You can spray Tamiya X-24 Clear Yellow, Mr. Color H-91 or any other clear yellow paints over the chrome. -

Mark, it's going to come down to you making a realistic and tough evaluation of your modeling situation. Using the "Judgement of Solomon" approach, take stock of what you have and decide which items are the most important to you as keepsakes and for building/restoring. Then, you need to inventory the damaged kits and sort the undamaged parts and consider selling them on ebay. That way, you can use the money to get the parts necessary to restore the valued ones in your collection. It's a hard thing to contemplate; but, one has to be pragmatic. BTW, I don't advertise the fact that I'm disabled. That's really nobody's business and it doesn't change the price of Malta at the bodega. I broke my neck in a trucking accident in 2007; so, I can empathize with you. I also live in what is probably the most expensive city in this country. My rent on a 2 BR apartment is almost three times what a lot of guys here pay on their monthly home mortgages; so, I know what it feels like to be walking a financial tightrope. I have to make judicious decisions on how to spend my money. My son is more important than a model kit. -
Magic Sculpt vs. Aves epoxy Putty?

Yup, same type. Me, I just prefer using Magic-Sculpt. Force of habit. Time to go to New Park for some slices. You buying? -

The models won't suffer any damage. Wash the parts and place them in large zip-lock bags. -
The EC is not darker than the VM. As I explained to you, the EC finish appears darker because I sprayed it over a semigloss black primer coat, followed by the clear urethane basecoat. I used the semigloss black because I was completely out of both white and gray primer. The color of the primer coat absolutely affects the appearance of EC. If sprayed over a gray or white primer, the results would have been identical to the VM.

Chrysler didn't get rights to the Jeep away from AMC. It bought out AMC in 1987, Jeep being the only AMC brand continued by Chrysler after the acquisition. Chrysler, and the successor companies including FCA, own and control licensing rights to the Jeep and AMC trademarks. The major reason for the dearth of AMC model kits is low interest.

Domestic cats are the only felines which have vertically opening/closing pupils, like snakes. Most other cats have round pupils and they're all wild. If you happen to run across a cute, slightly oversized kitty with round pupils, leave it the hell alone and just keep walking.

Yesterday was Raven's, aka "Fmeep", 11th birthday. He celebrated by having some chocolate cake topped with whipped cream and running around the yard doing his "Foamy the Cat" impersonation which scared the hell out of the people next door. They're deathly afraid of cats. Later, he and his pals headed to the PCat Lounge to whet their whiskers. They're big proponents of lap dances.

I've recently started using Krylon CoverMax primers/paint & primers. The ultra flat and satin lay down very nicely with no crazing. Pistachio makes for a good seafoam green.
