What kind of car is this
Atmobil replied to HDDan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

Atmobil replied to HDDan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, it is a Vauxhall Cresta. -
Same here, yes I start my reply the with the same words as you as I agree. I want 67 and 68 kits aswell so I can have all years of that generation truck. I'm a bit strange that way, I really want all years and all versions of vehicles. Infact, the 65 and 66 will add up to the list of F-series trucks and there is not that many generations we don't have.

That JF model does not look a lot like a 50s 2cv, it looks a lot more 70s (or maybe even 80s) to mee but I'm no expert on these. From what I have understood earlier the special models was not much more than different paint jobs and that most of the 2cv kits on offer can be built pretty much as a base vehicle.

Sweet looking build, that one must have been a real sleeper back in the day. The only things that gives the game away is the V on the hood and trunk, the FI emblems and twin tailpipes. I have for years wanted to build a tri-five the way they would have been sold here in Norway back in the day. That means a 4 door sedan (or 2 door as this) with I6, 3 speed manual and usually in singeltone color like black or some sober earth color (dark green or grey or dark blue or similar).

That looks really nice, more pictures please

2018 Chevrolet/GMC stepside
Atmobil replied to dieseldawg142's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I want one, that is, I want both (or maybe all three). The Ram looks cool even if it is a bit stubby looking without a tailgate and rear bumper (a step bumper would do well) and even if I agree with you guys that the Chevy/GMC needs a little tweeking I think it is really cool and if it had been for sale here and I had the money I would buy it. Sadly, in this country that thing would cost something like 110-120 000$ if it could be classified as a van. -
What did you see on the road today?
Atmobil replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
These are not from today but some of the interesting cars that I have seen in my worktravels over this past winter: -
USFS 1941 Chevrolet AK Pickup
Atmobil replied to Jim B's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Really nice one, great job. When I see this I feel I need to finish up my USFS project aswell, if only I had the time to spend on modelbuilding. -
That looks really nice, it's almost like a real one, exept there is no rust or dents in it (I guess this is what they looked like when new) Great job

Volkswagen Taro
Atmobil replied to iamsuperdan's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thats really cool, a friend of mine has a Taro but he has done the opposite of you and replaced the VW grille with a Toyota one. Since the tailgate is different and finding one that is rust free is like finding Jesus's sandals he replaced the VW emblem with a Porsche emblem. It is a strange thing that Taro, it is clearly a Toyota Hi-Lux and yet it is priced lower in todays market. I wonder what was the reason for Toyota and VW working together like this and making this offering. -
What Do You Want To See Next?
Atmobil replied to Duntov's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, I do think so to. Considering that anything else that is aircooled VW seem to sell in great numbers. The Vanagon kit has been out many times, I personally have 5 different issues (two different issues of the Club Joker camper, the Magnum P.I. version, German/Dutch police and the much rarer Transporter closed van issue) and Hasegawa seem to sell a lot of their split window panel aswell even if all the differences in many of them are just the decals (I have lost count of how many Eggplane Girls versions they have) I know there is a 1:24 diecast of the baywindow from Welly and I do have a 1:24 diecast of the type 3 nothcback from Maisto. If someone made a tooling of a Baywindow and a Type 3 they could sell several different variations and The Thing is everybit as iconic (if not more) as the Citroen Mehari that Heller gave us. In my eyes, a dead sert hot seller. -
Revell Chevy Van, Has It Been Reissued?
Atmobil replied to oldcarfan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
would also like to see the Revell Chevy reissued. I once had an old issue of it that was called California Cruiser but sadly I sold it. It had opening rear doors and full interior detail. I have not had the Monogram 1:24 kit but the AMT one is all empty inside. -
Lindberg's big Stealth - Mopar from the East (OOB)
Atmobil replied to Faust's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Great read, thank you very much for that. Dodge and Mitsubishi seem to have had a long relationship. The Dodge D50 pickup from the 70s is a Mitsubishi L200 and not long ago I saw an 80s Mitsubishi Pajero on Bring a trailer that was badged as a Dodge aswell. Now, there is a Dodge Lancer but imagine what it would be if you had gotten the Mitsubishi Lancer evo cars as Dodges. Now that would have really been something -
Thank you, yes the decals are from another time. I was lucky that they even worked out aswell as they did. I have actaully collected several decalsheets from kitreleases from that period and have wanted to build something like this for several years. I did have an idea to build a sort of "sister" Buick from AMTs 66 Riviera in a similar style some time ago, maybe I will do it in the future.

Yes it is, but I'm trying not to start a new one now. Got to finish more started projects. The 1980 Bronco I started last christmas would be the best candidate as that is very close finished. But I also got some12-15 other projects on my bench

Thank you, and yes it already looks good on my shelf

I finished something!!!! First model I have finished in well over a year, started on this a long time ago and it has been sitting in the box. I got it out and I have over the past few weeks added a littlebit of detail to it as often as I could. This is by no means a show quality model but I don't care. Afterall, I am the onlyone that will look at it later anyway and I think it looks cool and will do so even on the shelf. I have added no extra details to, no plugwires or anything like that. Straight out of the box. All of the brightwork has been done with molotow chrome pen. As you can see on the pictures I have gone for a mostly all white look with a white interior and exterior but I painted the enginebay satinblack (with a brush) You can also see that I did not do much more as the battery is not detailpainted and it will not be either. This model is shown with its hood in place. I have for many years had a thing for the late 80s and early 90s look with the graphics and colors that was used back then and this kit is dated 1989. Amazingly the decals went on almost without a problem. The chassis was also detailpainted with a brush, not very great but I don't care because I don't see it when it is sitting on my shelf. I'm happy to have finished one of my projects, one down and several hundreds to go

What Do You Want To See Next?
Atmobil replied to Duntov's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One that I would like to see and that I atleast belive would be economically feasible is a 70s VW van/bus/panel They have made a lot of different aircooled VW kits over the years but so far not the bay-window bus. Hasegawa has their 67 splitwindow and looks like they are making good money on that tooling, Revell AG made a brand new tooling of the splitwindow in 1:24 and also in 1:16 aswell as two different beetles in 1:24 and Gunzes 56 Oval and Karmann Ghia has been out several times and sells out quikly each time and the old Revell 1:25 Vanagon and the even older 1:25 68 bug has been out many times aswell. Licencing issues? They got so much other VW products so why not a baywindow? It has worldwide appeal, is popular in every country I can think of and has a huge amount of possible build options. -
Looks really nice and straight that one. What engine/trans was in it from the start? Slant six and treespeed? I'm guessing it was a manual gearbox as I see you got the clutchcylinder on the firewall. Here is some pictures of what I did to mine. The pcitures are sort of telling of my learingcurve with these. I have never worked on an old us vehicle before this one so I had to learn how things worked. Mopar is also different to GM and Ford and around here most are in to Fords or GM cars and Mopars are looked upon as something strange and alien so not as much help from people I know as I would have hoped. Right hand side rear brakes: Left hand side: And the left side drum, full of oil and bits of the brakes in it. And then I pulled out the axle on the right hand side: Front brakes, I replaced everything in the brakesystem. Notice that I had installed the shoes wrong. There is supposed to be a shorter liner on the front shoe. I discovered this when I was trying to install the new drum Notice the bearing on the driverside axle. I guess you can call it busted. And look what I found laying on the bottom of the rearaxle housing: The thrust buttons are supposed to be inside the diff between the two ends of the axles. Rear axle casing with springs, cleaned it all up with wirewheel on my anglegrinder and painted it with rustkiller primer and hammerpaint in gloss black. New fittings and the old coupling blocks cleaned up. Since the pipe sizes is one of those few things that still are delivered in old non-metric dimensions it was no problem to get a roll of about 30 feet of 3/16" copper pipe from the local autoparts store. I made up new pipes with the old ones as templates. The new and old pipes and the new ones fitted to the freshly painted rearaxle housing. I ordered new U-bolts and springbushings from Espo Springs and Things. Freshly painted springs, new dampers and new steeringparts. All the greasepoints have been filled with fresh grease. Same in the rear. Getting the diff back in on my own was not easy but I did manage to get it in. I also fabricated new upper mounts for the rear shocks, I have no photo of them but basiclly I made it from a M16 threaded bar with a 18mm pipe that I threaded the inside of and some M16 nuts in between to replicate the original parts that broke off when I removed the old shocks. I discovered that the driver side parking brake strut was broken. Some steel from an old floor jack was the same thickness as the original part. A couple of hours with an anglegrinder later I ended up with this:

What Do You Want To See Next?
Atmobil replied to Duntov's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is some resinkits out there but I really want to see a 60s Dodge pickup in plastic: And for Round 2, please reissiue the old MPC 70s Dodge truck but this time not as the Little Red Express. -
Is that a mobile shrine of some sort? Neat detail with he wing on the back.
