They are. There's also a third one called the "Autolite Special". The Mach 1 came out in '68. You can tell by the artwork. It's similar to most of the other AMT kit artwork that year. Best kit box art ever, IMHO. Here's the box of my '68 Thunderbird for comparison.

The original maroon version looks a lot like a convertible version of Cadzilla to me. Both came out of Coddington's shop, of corse.

Sometimes you do something silly on a bet, and end up with something like this,, Sometimes there's a car you really want but don't want to spend $200+ on a mint kit. when a $50 rebuilder will get it done.

We already went through this last month, it was a misprint. The color is "Citron", not Bitron.

Vintage kit route. IIRC, that kit and any after it were reissues of the "Craftsman" curbside kit with the hood cut open and engine added. BUT, the firewall and everything else needed is in the AMT '64. OR, you could just get the new tool Revell kit.

So, given this news, is there a chance you'll be offering plated parts in your resin kits sometime in the future Jeff? Might be a good move, maybe even just as an available option. I know I'd pay a bit extra for pre-plated bumpers, grilles, etc.

After bodywork and priming I always apply a coat of BIN Zinzer shellac. Wet sand it out with 1000 grit or finer and I'm good to go. Never had a problem in over 30 years of doing this. BTW, It's quite pebbly from the spraycan so I airbrush it thinned with rubbing alcohol. The Alcohol also is excellent for clean up afterword.

Where on earth did you get the hood Ron? [Norm?] I thought I was the only one who cast any of those. [did a couple for Albert Wallace a few years ago] Anyway, cool project, I love those old lux cars.

Looks really good Tom. Very cool replica. [BTW, that's also the original colour of my 1/1 '85 TransAm. ]

Here's a tip about the headlights on that kit. The placement seems off when built from the box but the looks can be vastly improved by simply making the holes bigger, adding a thin strip of sheet plastic around each hole to form the bezel and adding larger lights.

Thanks guys. BTW, here's a couple pics of the progress on the 1/1 I took today. My uncle Arnold is doing most of the welding for me, he's more experienced and much better at it than I am. Most of the metal work is in the floor, the outside skin is in pretty good shape for a car that sat so long. Only really bad part is the bottom of the driver's door and that's not a hard fix. Some may wonder why I didn't just buy new floor pans for it. I would have liked to but I have more time than money and the pans would have cost me almost $1000.oo CDN after tax and the sheet of 20 gauge tin was about 50.

Here's a quick mockup in color with the wheels. Still quite a long way to go to be a finished model but it gets across what the car will look like when done.

Bill makes a good point about the headlight bezels. Every '59 Caddy kit I can remember does the headlight area like that with the section moulded to the chrome piece instead of the fender though, including both Ghostbusters kits and the original JoHan kit and promo. That said, I have come across a couple pics of cars done as the kits do it but I don't think they came from the factory that way. Here's a good pic illustrating just what he means.

Technically, anything you do to it other than cleaning will be "compromising the integrity of the promo". That said, those Monzas aren't really that rare or valuable so I'd say go for it and do whatever mods you like.

I've been looking forward to seeing this movie. I liked the last ones. Everyone likes different things. For example I could never see why so many people are crazy for American Graffiti or Duel.

Greg, was the holes for the portholes already in the body? I didn't know MPC did that to any of their Dodge vans.

Intresting. I wonder if they just cribbed the wheels from MPC and shrunk them down. Here's a pic of the MPC wheel. I sanded the lip off the rim on this one so it's match the rear wheels I used but as you can see, they look pretty well identical.

Patrick, have you opened it yet? I'm wondering if it's really 1/32. Sometimes they made mistakes on the scale. I'm wondering because the wheels on that car are a dead ringer for the ones in MPC's "Switchers" T Bucket and some other of thier 1/25 cars. I'd be inrested to see what they look like size wise compared to a standard 1/25 kit wheel.
