1/25 version of my 1/1 Trans Am., , , June '22 ,, Tail light panel
Can-Con replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks guys. BTW, here's a couple pics of the progress on the 1/1 I took today. My uncle Arnold is doing most of the welding for me, he's more experienced and much better at it than I am. Most of the metal work is in the floor, the outside skin is in pretty good shape for a car that sat so long. Only really bad part is the bottom of the driver's door and that's not a hard fix. Some may wonder why I didn't just buy new floor pans for it. I would have liked to but I have more time than money and the pans would have cost me almost $1000.oo CDN after tax and the sheet of 20 gauge tin was about 50. -

Here's a quick mockup in color with the wheels. Still quite a long way to go to be a finished model but it gets across what the car will look like when done. -
Bill makes a good point about the headlight bezels. Every '59 Caddy kit I can remember does the headlight area like that with the section moulded to the chrome piece instead of the fender though, including both Ghostbusters kits and the original JoHan kit and promo. That said, I have come across a couple pics of cars done as the kits do it but I don't think they came from the factory that way. Here's a good pic illustrating just what he means.
-
I can dig it.

Technically, anything you do to it other than cleaning will be "compromising the integrity of the promo". That said, those Monzas aren't really that rare or valuable so I'd say go for it and do whatever mods you like.

I've been looking forward to seeing this movie. I liked the last ones. Everyone likes different things. For example I could never see why so many people are crazy for American Graffiti or Duel.

Sweet.

Yes, 1/32, I get that. No need to beat it home. That's why I said " and shrunk them down".

All of them since the '70s, including the current one.

Intresting. I wonder if they just cribbed the wheels from MPC and shrunk them down. Here's a pic of the MPC wheel. I sanded the lip off the rim on this one so it's match the rear wheels I used but as you can see, they look pretty well identical.

Patrick, have you opened it yet? I'm wondering if it's really 1/32. Sometimes they made mistakes on the scale. I'm wondering because the wheels on that car are a dead ringer for the ones in MPC's "Switchers" T Bucket and some other of thier 1/25 cars. I'd be inrested to see what they look like size wise compared to a standard 1/25 kit wheel.

Monogram beer wagon as a original truck
Can-Con replied to junkyardjeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Humm. Yes, the stock trucks were considerably bigger than depicted as the Beer Wagon but consider this,,, How about a "phantom" Mack pickup. It could have been similar in size to a Ford T pickup but using many of the styling cues from the senior Mack trucks. You could use the Ford T frame and suspension with a modified Beer Wagon cab, hood and front fender unit with the Ford box and a modified set of rear fenders and running boards. Now take all that and hotrod it in a similar manner to how you usually see a T pickup rodded. -
It's definitly the old Monogram 1/24 kit. and it's a 1978. The Revell kits were just reissues of that kit. They never did one in 1/25. The AMT SS is just a modified reissue of the MPC annual kit last seen stock as the '82.

Have you guys seen one of these before?
Can-Con replied to JollySipper's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Isn't that what Frankenstien drove off in at the end of the original "Death Race 2000" from the '70s? -
Anyone know anything about this Testors color?
Can-Con replied to Monty's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It's a typo, should be "Citron". Here's what the Testors site says is in that set,, 9148 – Colors (Black, Charcoal, White, Jade, Citron, Grape Purple, Scarlet, Sherbet, Mocha); Accessories: 3 paint brushes -
And you know what Nick, that's just what I do too. I almost never do a test. But my point was to back up what was said about the power of the internet to spread information.

AMT 1966 Buick Wildcat interior
Can-Con replied to Motor City's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
The original AMT '66 annual used the '65 interior so if a correct '66 interior exists, someone would have to master it and cast it in resin. I've never heard of one being done in Resin and believe none exists. -
As far as I can tell anyway. I didn't get the idea from anyone and I don't remember hearing of anyone doing it before SA printed it in their tips and tech section. But anyway, I don't want to get too off subject, just needed to get that out.

You got that right George. My "plastic spoon test" idea was printed in S.A. over a decade ago. It's so common now that it's like it always existed from day-one of model building. Word gets around ,, and fast these days with computers and forums like this one.
