I like the one in the '69 and '70 annuals better but I have a bunch of those custom grilles and may someday use one on a custom by cutting the lights out and replacing the section from another grille. The stock grille in that kit doesn't look that great anyway, the headlights aren't even exactly round.

Looks great. did that rear bumper come with the kit or is is from elsewhere? I ask because I know the back bumper for some of those last years GTO kits don't fit well, that looks perfect.

I'm not much of a photographer but I did spot this along the side of a trail to a house I was working at a few years ago and thought it was a perfect shot. I just took the pic and left it exactly as I found it to return back to nature. I've used it as my avatar on a couple music sites I belong to.

Excellent build. Some very tasteful customizing in that one.

I think everyone should only build the kits exactly as they say on the instructions and only with the parts that come in the box. NEVER be creative in any way. This is how I ALWAYS assemble my miniatures and I believe everyone else would always follow the rules. ? Now lets have no more of this "kitbashing" poppycock. ?

That's what I was thinking too, Rob. Those lenses are too small for single round headlights and those trucks never has quad round headlights, even with the earlier front ends.

The cannonball van was just the same one that was last released as the Turtle Wax van with a wildly incorrect grille. I don't think it would be too hard to backdate it though. New body, chrome and tail lights. IIRC they never updated the interior and the chassis and engine would be the same.

Not new. They were in at least the "Midnight Z" version of the kit from the mid '80s and probably in some others afterwards. Very nice wheels too, BTW.

That clear shot sure has a lot of extra lenses on it. I see headlight and park light lenses on there for a single headlight grille , ,, and what's all those round lenses for ? [5 of them?] ?

Don't know, never tried it as the '53 kit I have is the sedan delivers. [same chrome tree as sedan] and I don't think a connie kit would well on the delivery. ?

I don't understand why there isn't more love for that Thunderbird kit. It was tooled up in the '90s when all those other hi detailed AMT kits were done line the '57 Chryslers, '66 Rivieras, '62 Thunderbird, etc. The engine might be a bit simplified but it also has all the features that people like in those kits like loads of separate parts including the frame and even a separate starter solenoid under the hood. Maybe people are under the impression that it's just an old rehash of the '57, which is older then I am. BUT, it doesn't say what scale the kit is. There also was a 1/16 '55. I didn't know what. I've only ever seen the '57. The car in the pic has a connie kit though so it must be the '56, I guess.

Careful how much you use for your spoon tests though Kyle. don't want to run out. BTW. not the whole engine bay was black on GM cars. Usually just the inner fenders and rad wall but you'll also see the firewall painted black a lot. Don't know if that's because they were painted at different factories or restoration mistakes though. Always best to do image searches when doing a stock car.

What were the parts, Luc, do you remember? Glad to have it back anyway. Gave mine away to a friend last spring. and a big FYI, for those who don't want the connie kit. The rear bumper from the Revell '53/'54 Chevys will fit perfectly and look great on it.

Just an FYI, Bart, All 3rd gen Camaros and Firebirds used the same mirrors. Probably easier to find.

It's in some of the reissues. Looks more like air bags though. IIRC, the latest reissue has a lot of the Kart parts in it.

Another vote here for leaving the hood alone. If you close up the gap you very well may end up with problems with fit after painting, as Tony said.

First, Love '29 Fords, they're my favorite hot rods. So, yes, some odd things with that kit like the Dodge hemi and other assorted bits. It's because the kit was originally a double kit with the Barris "Ala Kart" as the second kit. Eventually the AlaKart was dropped but a large amount of it's parts , such as it's engine body parts et. were left in the kit.

Pretty sure the '70s term you're thinking of Craig is "resto rod" ,, "resto mod" is a much newer term usually applied to muscle cars set up in the style you're referring to as opposed to the pre-'40s cars. ?

I don't think rarity is what keeps people from building it. It could have possibilities but first thing I'd have to do would be get rid of those 4X4 fender flares.
