International RF-190
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to DRIPTROIT 71's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks again for the comments! I have a little more progress. The body work is not perfect but I wanted it to look a little warn having been repainted and still in use. I tried a different paint. I usually use spray cans because of convenience. I usually try to use lacquer because it dries fast and doesn’t build up thick like many enamels. This is an enamel model railroad paint called scalecoat 1. It seems to cover pretty good without building up very thick, but dries VERY slowly. -

Thanks Carl! Thank you Vincent! Thanks Brian! Thank you Chris! Thanks Rick! Thanks x2 Thanks so much! The grill came with the hood when I bought it, but I believe someone may have added it extra. I’m thinking that it may have been a product from Ben Wicker but I am not sure. -

The 6v-53 Detroit seems to have been available in Australia. I can’t seem to find any information on it being available in the US though. Although the C and J series Cummins were available in the US. -
Well it is all about personal preference. We all like different stuff. But, I have never liked the big rims and low profile tires personally . I have seen a handful of applications where they looked okay, but as for me, I like the old school look of smaller rims with some offset and some sidewall. Low profiles ride like a wagon too. They just aren’t for me.

Looks awesome! I will have to try that foil paint. I’ve been using Dupli-color chrome, but I think that this might look better. Great work! -

Thanks Charles. The cab came with separate chrome horizontal bars for the grill. I haven’t really gotten them out of the bag and looked at them closely yet. Thanks for the tip if I end up having to make some. Brian -

You just have a way of capturing that just right vintage look!! This thing looks Awesome right down to the windshield washer hoses going to the wiper arms. The weathering really makes it look real! The steps look spot on!! The widened cab and grill set it apart from the rest! Top notch work for sure!! -

Year model of Big Rig Truck Kits
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to leafsprings's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Another very slight detail on the IH 4070B Transtar II. In 79 IH extended the cabs a couple of inches. It wouldn't be noticed except they changed the rear grab handle and the cab around the sleeper vent is no longer recessed. So the kit only represents a 74-78. With very slight modifications it can represent a 79-80. 1978 4070B notice the rear grab bar: 1979 4070B notice the rear grab bar and recess around the vent gone: -
Year model of Big Rig Truck Kits
DRIPTROIT 71 replied to leafsprings's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As far as the cab on this kit it has the big back window that I don’t think came out until 75. I think the “Corvette” dash came out in78. So while it can be slightly modified into other years the kit itself fits into the 75-77 range. -

I’m going to make a big assumption here, but on the Louisville that I built a while back the emblem was very clean and defined on the intake side Of the hood but barely visible on the other side. I made a clay casting of the intake side emblem and made one out of resin for the other side. So I assume that the one emblem is meant to be for the driver’s side where the emblem is almost nonexistent. But that is just my guess.

Brian you did a great job on this one! I like the weathered look you came up with. You have really captured the vintage look of these old trucks. I really like this one!!
